Victor took a step forward. "Fine. You've made your point. But why? Why go through all this trouble? Why drag me here?"
Conrad's expression darkened. "Because you and I, Moretti, are caught in the same mess."
He picked up his glass but didn't drink. His tone shifted, quieter now.
"Tell Carl it was nothing personal. I didn't sell anyone out , i was betrayed too."
Victor frowned. "By who?"
"Cut the chase," Victor added harshly. "What do you want, Conrad?"
Conrad chuckled. "Straight to business. I like that."
Then his face hardened.
"I want my name cleared."
Victor blinked, confused. "Cleared of what?"
"Of him," Conrad said. "Weiss Voss …..my father."
The name hit like a gunshot. Conrad kept talking, voice low and venomous.
"Everyone thought the old man was dead. He wasn't. He faked it. Crawled underground, rebuilt everything the guns, the trade, the blood networks. And guess who he used as his shield when things went south?"
He jabbed a finger at his chest.
"Me."
