prologue

Elena Romano lived two lives.

By day, she was just another face in the crowd—quiet, polite, forgettable. A library assistant who tucked stray strands of hair behind her ear and apologized when she bumped into strangers. No one looked twice at her. No one guessed. But at night… she became someone else. Her second life began the moment Dominic Moretti stepped out of his glass tower office, surrounded by shadows that bent to him as though the city itself was his servant. And Elena followed.

From across the street, she matched his pace, careful, deliberate. Every step, every turn, she studied him with the precision of a scientist and the hunger of a lover. She knew his favorite drink—black coffee, no sugar. She knew the way he adjusted his cufflinks before stepping into a meeting. She knew how his hand lingered briefly on the car door before sliding inside.

She knew him .Better than anyone.

Her obsession wasn't sudden—it had been building for months. The first time she saw him had been an accident, or maybe destiny. He had walked into the library one evening, asking for a specific book. His voice had been low, commanding, and it had sent a strange thrill through her chest. She had given him the book, and he had left without a second glance. But for Elena, the damage was done.

Dominic Moretti became her addiction.

And addictions demanded to be fed.

She had rules for stalking him—rules she created to keep herself safe.

Never follow too closely.

Never let him see her face.

Never leave a trail.

But tonight, rules weren't enough. Tonight, she wanted more. Her hand slipped into her pocket, fingers brushing against the small vial hidden inside. A fine white powder, potent and fast. One sprinkle into his drink, and the mighty Dominic Moretti would be helpless. Just a man.

Her man.

Her lips curved into a secret smile as her heart pounded wildly. She wasn't stupid—she knew how dangerous he was. Mafia boss, criminal empire, ruthless king in a kingdom of blood. The kind of man mothers warned their daughters to stay away from. But Elena had never been good at listening.

She wanted him. Not his money, not his power. Him. His heartbeat under her hand. His body lying vulnerable in her bed. His secrets whispered into her ear when the city slept. The thought made her dizzy.

The black car rolled up to the curb, headlights slicing through the dark. The driver stepped out, polished shoes glinting under the streetlamp, and opened the back door.

Then he appeared.

Dominic Moretti.

Tall, broad-shouldered, dressed in a tailored black suit that seemed made for the night itself. His presence swallowed the street whole. People didn't just move aside—they seemed to vanish, the air itself thinning in reverence or fear.Elena's throat tightened. God, he was beautiful. Dangerous, yes, but in that way fire was beautiful—destructive, irresistible, inevitable. Her fingers curled around the vial so tightly it bit into her skin.

Tonight.

Tonight she would get close enough. Slip the powder into his drink. Watch as his sharp gray eyes grew heavy, as his strong body sank into helplessness. She'd finally cross the invisible line she had drawn for herself, the line between shadow and possession. For weeks, she had imagined it. His head resting against her pillow. His chest rising and falling in her sheets. She would touch him gently at first, like a worshipper touching an altar, then claim him as hers.It wasn't madness. It was fate. She believed that with every ragged breath she took.

Dominic Moretti was meant to belong to her.

Elena pressed back into the shadows, watching as he adjusted his cufflinks and stepped into the glow of the streetlight. Her chest burned with the thrill of being so close, yet unseen. She whispered into the dark, almost a prayer.

"Soon, Dominic. Soon you'll be mine."

And as his gaze briefly swept across the street—sharp, searching, predatory—Elena told herself it was coincidence. That he couldn't possibly see her.

Because if he did… she would have realized the most terrifying truth of all:She had never been stalking him.He had been watching her all along....!!!!!
