Chapter 20 - CHAPTER 21

Eze Mmuo's demise ushered in a new era for the village, as if a suffocating shroud had been lifted, allowing the people to breathe freely for the first time. Laughter and music filled the air, and the once-oppressed villagers reveled in their newfound liberty.

Ekene's supporters celebrated his triumphant return, while those who had sought his demise found themselves swayed by his courage and unwavering spirit. Ekene's name spread like wildfire, praised as the hero who had freed Amosu Village from the clutches of tyranny.

Ekene's friends didn't return home. They remained ever-vigilant, knowing that their duty was far from over. With Eze Mmuo gone and the Shrine of Ikuku reduced to ashes, they feared that Ikuku's wrath would soon be upon them. Preparing for the worst, they stood guard, united in their resolve to protect their friends and their home.

Samuel's voice rang out with urgency as he called to Cynthia and Grace. "We need to get prepared. Ikuku's forces could arrive at any moment."

Exchanging determined glances, Cynthia inquired, "But how?" Curiosity piqued.

Samuel revealed a secret he had kept close to his chest. "I'll teach you guys kung fu. I've been training in secret, honing my skills for moments like these. Now that Ekene has begun his own training in anticipation of Ikuku's attacks, we can't afford to be caught off guard, can we?"

Cynthia and Grace exchanged a silent understanding, their eyes conveying a newfound resolve. "Right!" they declared in unison, ready to face whatever threats lay on the horizon, their bonds of friendship and loyalty stronger than ever before.

The palace of Amosu Village was an architectural marvel, its sprawling complex adorned with ornate carvings and vibrant hues that paid homage to the rich history and culture of its people. Lush greenery and fragrant blooms imbued the meticulously maintained grounds with an air of tranquility amidst the hive of activity.

Vigilant guards stood at their posts, their gazes sweeping the area with a blend of caution and readiness. Hands resting on the hilts of their swords, they remained poised to defend against any impending threats.

The maids bustled about, each focused on their daily tasks. Some diligently cleaned the floors, some watered the flowers, while others swept the courtyards or surveyed the compounds to ensure all was in order. In the kitchen, a handful of maids worked tirelessly, preparing meals for the royal family and the steadfast guards.

Within the sitting room, the King, the Queen – the Python, and Princess Adaeze sat, their expressions grave as they engaged in a somber conversation. The King's face betrayed his worry, while the Queen's features remained composed, her resolve unwavering. Princess Adaeze listened closely, her attention fixed on her parents as the weight of the looming conflict shrouded the room.

"Honey, why didn't you tell us that Eze Mmuo was the one who turned you into a snake ten years ago?" the King inquired, his voice tinged with hurt.

The Queen – the Python, replied, "Because I didn't want anything to happen to either of you. I knew you would challenge him without hesitation."

Princess Adaeze interjected, her tone laced with anger, "That man was pure evil. I'm glad Ekene killed him."

A small smile graced the Queen's lips. "Ah, Ekene. Ever since he came into our family, it's been one piece of good news after another. He's such a fine young man."

"You can say that again, my dear," the King agreed, sharing a tender look with his wife as Princess Adaeze watched, her own lips curving into a smile at the thought of Ekene's bravery and devotion

A sudden gust of wind swept through the palace as Ikuku descended from the sky, his arrival commanding the attention of all those present. The guards sprang into action, their bodies moving in perfect sync as they formed a protective barrier around the palace housing the royal family.

"Who are you, and what business do you have here?" one of the guards demanded, his voice strong and unwavering.

Ikuku's expression remained impassive as he responded with a question of his own. "Hmmm. It seems this is the palace. In that case, where can I find the man they call 'Ekene'?" His gaze swept the area, searching for any sign of his quarry.

The guard held his ground, refusing to answer. Instead, he launched a swift and powerful attack, his sword glinting in the sunlight. But Ikuku was unshaken, his movements a blur. With a deadly precision, he thrust his hand through the guard's chest, his fingers closing around the man's heart. The guard's eyes widened in disbelief as Ikuku withdrew his heart, the guard's lifeless body collapsing to the ground, with Ikuku's hand dripping with the guard's blood.

A stunned silence fell over the palace, the only sound the ragged breathing of the remaining guards. They watched in horror, their faces ashen with fear. Ikuku's gaze fixed on them, his eyes blazing with an unearthly intensity. "Ekene!" he called out, his voice reverberating through the palace halls. "I know he is connected to this family. Tell me, where is he?"

At that moment, the king, the queen, and Princess Adaeze emerged from the palace, their faces etched with concern as they took in the scene before them. Seeing the chaos unfolding, the king addressed the mysterious stranger, his voice strong and unwavering. "Who are you, and what is it that you want from us?"

Just then, Ikuku knelt down and placed his hand upon the ground. The earth trembled and split open, an army of anacondas surging forth from the depths. One of the massive serpents swiftly encircled the king, its powerful coils tightening around him.

"Now, then, shall we begin?" Ikuku asked, his tone deceptively casual as he took a seat upon one of the snakes. "Princess, I know you love your father. I promise not to harm him, but only if you cooperate. Where is the man they call Ekene?"

The king's eyes widened with desperation as he shouted, "Princess! Don't worry about me! Don't tell him anything, no matter what!" In response, Ikuku formed a hand sign, and the snake restraining the king swiftly and wrapped its tail around his mouth, silencing him.

"You monster!" Princess Adaeze cried out, her voice trembling with anguish.

Ikuku's gaze remained steady as he pressed on. "Now, then, will you tell me or not?"

Princess Adaeze's defiance shone through her fear. "I don't know, and even if I did, I would never tell you anything!"

"Hmm, interesting," Ikuku said, his expression unreadable. "I see you don't care about what happens to your father."

Without warning, the snake holding the king captive opened its massive jaws and devoured him whole. As the king was being consumed, he managed to utter his final words, "I love you, Adaeze."

A horrified scream escaped Princess Adaeze's lips. "Nooooooooo!" She watched in abject horror as her father was devoured by the monstrous serpent. Before she could process the tragedy that had just unfolded, another snake wrapped its powerful grip around her, rendering her helpless.

The queen stood frozen in shock, her eyes wide with fear as she struggled to comprehend the catastrophic turn of events that had befallen her family. Ikuku remained cold and detached, surveying the chaos with a sinister satisfaction

"Queen mother, it seems Eze Mmuo did a shoddy job if you still retain control even in that form," Ikuku taunted, his voice laced with sarcasm. "Now, tell me where Ekene is, or the Princess dies!"

The Queen's voice trembled as she pleaded, "I'll tell you, but please don't hurt my daughter."

"Mum, no!" Princess Adaeze cried out, her face streaked with tears.

Suddenly, Ekene's voice rang out, cutting through the tension. "The blade that bears the same name as that of the king of the jungle's, Agu! Lend me your strength!" In a flash, he sliced through the snake holding Princess Adaeze captive, setting her free.

"Why did you come here?!" Princess Adaeze exclaimed, her eyes wide with fear. "You should have stayed hidden!"

Ekene paid no heed to her words, his attention focused solely on Ikuku. "Hey, I hear you've been looking for me, huh?" he said, "Ikuku."

The mention of Ikuku's name seemed to freeze time itself, as everyone present held their breath.
