Chapter 21 - Emily's Body is Found

The sun was setting over the city, casting a golden glow over the streets and buildings. But the warmth of the sun couldn't penetrate the chill that ran through Detective Jameson's veins as he stood at the edge of the woods.

"Are you sure it's her?" Jameson asked the officer, his voice low and serious.

The officer nodded, his face pale. "Yes, sir. The ID on the body matches Emily's description. We've also found some personal effects nearby that belonged to her."

Jameson's eyes scanned the area, taking in the scene. The woods were dense, with tall trees blocking out most of the sunlight. It was a secluded spot, far from prying eyes.

As Jameson approached the body, he felt a sense of sadness wash over him. He had been hoping against hope that Emily was still alive, that she had somehow managed to escape her captors. But now, it seemed that hope was lost.

The medical examiner's team was already on the scene, processing the body and collecting evidence. Jameson watched as they carefully bagged Emily's hands and feet, looking for any signs of struggle or trauma.

"We'll need to do a full autopsy," the medical examiner said, her voice professional. "But it looks like she may have been killed elsewhere and brought here."

Jameson's eyes narrowed. This was getting more complex by the minute. He needed to get back to the station and start reviewing the evidence again.

As he turned to leave, he noticed a piece of paper clutched in Emily's hand. He carefully pried it open, revealing a note scrawled in hasty handwriting.

"They're watching me," the note read. "I'm running out of time."

Jameson's face set in determination. He was going to find out who had done this to Emily, no matter what it took. He was going to follow every lead, every hint, every clue. And he was going to make sure that justice was served.

The investigation had just taken a darker turn, and Jameson was more determined than ever to solve the case.
