Why was I born? Why am I living? Am I really not going to die? It is so hard to believe this. While I was thinking this inside, I was also crying a little, but because of thirst, not even tears would fall from my eyes. My skin had lost its color, my strength was gone. I was only a 7-year-old child, that was all. I lowered my head to the ground, around me people were lying down, hardly anyone could stand. But tomorrow was a good day, food would come from the capital. Just thinking of that moment, I tried not to die, knowing that I would not die. In the place we were, unable to even stand up because of filth, we slept on the street, all the people. When tomorrow came, everyone woke up and went to the cart in pain. My mother was "dead." My sibling had "died" when still a baby by falling to the ground. My father, while I was sleeping, went to the cart and took what we were owed, barely bringing it to me. He nudged me slightly and I woke up immediately. My sleep was so light... maybe because of my fear. We ate the food together and also separated some to last for a few weeks. That day everyone's face was smiling, but after a few days they would cry again. We were such a "cursed" tribe that no one would even look at our faces. Even though we had money, no caravan would come, no merchant would pass. Everyone feared our "curse." Tomorrow never came, we had slept not knowing that in our village the sun would never shine again. A few shouts and screams, cries of pain echoed in my ears. I woke up quickly and stood, I found my father looking out the window in fear, trembling. I climbed up on the stool and when I looked, my blood froze, my foot slipped and I fell to the ground. A group of raiders were completely plundering our village. They entered houses, burned everything, and "mercilessly slaughtered." My father looked at me and whispered, "Don't cry," he said in a low voice. But he also looked like he would cry... WHAT COULD I DO! I WAS ONLY A 7-YEAR-OLD CHILD! INSTINCTIVELY I CRIED! I never thought that my action would be the reason I would see my father for the last time. The raiders turned toward our house too, suddenly our window broke and an arrow came inside. The arrow tip was burning and would quickly set our wooden house on fire. They leaned on the door but did not dare to enter through the broken windows. The door was about to break... while I was still crying, my father was thinking what we could do. "The two of us could never escape together." My father lifted me up and shouted, I would never forget that moment. "RUN TO THE DOOR TALHA! ESCAPE THROUGH THE BACK!" With his fearful shout, my eyes opened again. And I ran to the back door, but... but... my father did not come. With a momentary feeling of loneliness I turned back and saw my father holding the door and I started crying even more. But this time I also used my legs and started running, into the depths of the forest. A sound came from behind, shouts and my father's scream of pain. The door collapsed on my father and crushed him. The others passed over my father but did not stop... I could feel they were coming toward me. I had to escape! I ha- I MUST ESCAPE! MY FATHER COULD NOT DIE FOR NOTHING AND I... I AM SO AFRAID OF DYING! I AM STILL A CHILD DAMN IT! But I am a child... with my little feet I could only run so far. I think it was bad luck that I came upon a river, I was about to throw myself in but... I HAD NEVER SWUM BEFORE! I was scared and could not jump, but they were not scared and for a moment my eyes darkened. I felt a deep pain in my back, my eyes slowly darkening as the world lost its color and meaning to me. Blood spurted from my mouth. At that moment, one of the raiders mercilessly wounded me with an arrow to the chest. I staggered slightly back but then fell forward. I fell into the river and was swept away by the merciless current. At that moment I swore. I prayed, "My God, do not let me live." Because if I survive, I will fight until I die. UNTIL I WIPE OUT ALL THE FAMILIES AND DESCENDANTS OF THOSE RAIDERS, THEIR BLOODLINES, I WILL NOT STOP!...
