Emily stared at him, confused. "What do you mean gone?"
Lucian slid the key into the car ignition, his expression unreadably calm. "Had another task to handle," he muttered.
Emily swallowed, averting her gaze to the car's window as she took one last glance around the premises.
Slowly, the car pulled away from the eatery. Emily's tensed shoulders sagged with relief.
After about five minutes of driving, Emily's brow furrowed. The scenery looked nothing like the usual route to the company.
She turned her head toward Lucian, her eyes narrowing inquisitively.
"Aren't we going to the company?"
"In a few minutes," he replied, his gaze fixed on the road ahead.
Emily stared at his face, hoping to find any emotion or expression on his face, there was none, and whatever was going on in his mind, she wasn't privileged to know. She sighed.
"Then where are we headed?"
"The mall," he clipped, his voice flat.
