Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Zhang Da Ye

# Chapter 2: Arrogant Jungler – If You Don't Give, I'll Feed

The young man's name was Zhang Da Ye, a student at a university in Jiangcheng.

"There's value in self-discipline when poor, and in helping the world when successful."

Zhang Da Ye's name literally meant this: "When successful, help the world."

A noble meaning, but his unscrupulous roommates preferred to call him by his nickname—**Little Zhang the Jungler, Arrogant Jungler**.

Because in whatever computer game he played, he only jungled—and was so terrible at it that at the start of every match, his roommates would tease him:

*"Arrogant jungler, if you don't give, you'll feed."*

Zhang Da Ye was used to it. A nickname was just for fun. Besides, he couldn't really fight back anyway.

Zhang Da Ye's arrival in this world actually began on that one morning when all four roommates overslept in Room 404.

That day, the four of them all ignored breakfast. By near noon, Zhang Da Ye and two other roommates convinced Ren Ming to go get lunch from the cafeteria by promising a simple "88" as reward.

Ren Ming never came back—he didn't answer calls, texts, or even log online.

Normally, a missed call wasn't alarming; maybe he hadn't heard it. But Zhang Da Ye was starving and decided to go check what Ren Ming was doing while grabbing some food, leaving the two lazy roommates behind.

The moment Zhang Da Ye stepped out of the dorm, he lost consciousness.

When he woke up, he found himself lying on a wooden plank, surrounded by endless ocean.

His first instinct was to check his pocket. The familiar feel of his phone gave him some comfort—at least he wasn't completely cut off.

He tried to reason it out: maybe it was a dream. He pinched his thigh like in the movies.

But the pain confirmed it—this was real. Either he had traveled to another world, or he was encountering some supernatural phenomenon.

Around him, there was only sea, no landmarks.

Zhang Da Ye checked his phone—fully charged at 100%, thankfully. Then he noticed: no signal. Not even Wi-Fi.

He tried calling his roommates and emergency numbers. The answer was always: *"No service."*

Panic set in.

He realized he either had to get lucky and find land soon, or try a Bear Grylls-style survival.

It took a moment to accept, but hunger reminded him: quick action was necessary.

He checked his current state:

*"Other than being hungry, I'm fine… but being hungry in this situation isn't ideal."*

Next, he examined his belongings. For a survival scenario, some tools were essential.

He wore the same clothes as when he left: long-sleeved T-shirt, black jacket, blue jeans, and white sneakers. Temperature felt manageable; he shouldn't freeze.

He emptied his pockets: a campus card, keys to Room 404, a nail clipper, an ear pick, and a Luo Tianyi pendant.

That was all he had—plus his phone and the plank he was floating on.

Zhang Da Ye stared at his phone, campus card, and keys. Could he survive on this?

*"Hungry…"*

Weakly, he lay on the plank, eyes fixed on the sea, hoping for a few fish to swim by.

He fashioned a makeshift hook from a shoelace and keychain, attaching the nail clipper as a weight. No bait.

But by nightfall, no fish had bitten. Afternoon hunger had dulled, but by night, his stomach burned and lips were dry from sea wind.

Desperate, he tried drawing Mickey Mouse on the plank—no Disney helicopters came to sue him.

*"If I survive this, I'll get up on time, eat on time, maintain proper nutrition, and waste no food…"*

He tied the "fishing line" to his wrist and flipped over, dozing off.

In the early hours, the crescent moon hid behind clouds, stars twinkling. A shooting star streaked across the sky.

His phone suddenly lit up, frozen at the lock screen—no one had entered the password.

The world seemed to pause. A small wave rocked the plank; the Room 404 key struck the phone screen.

Virtual buttons danced as if unlocking the password.

When the first morning light shone, the phone and keys shattered, their fragments merging with the campus card into Zhang Da Ye's left hand.

A purple circular magic array appeared, intricate yet organized, resembling a mix of school emblems and key patterns.

A purple light scanned him entirely. A semi-transparent screen, the size of a phone, floated above.

**Name:** Zhang Da Ye

**Age:** 18

**Profile:** Former student of Jiangcheng University of Science and Technology. Went out looking for food and missing roommate, possibly transported to another world by a roommate's passing wish upon a shooting star.

The screen dimmed after thirty seconds, switching to another page.

Time: 05:05

The magic circle on his hand was shown like a progress bar, 90% bright, the rest dim.

**Energy full. Start summoning?**

[Yes (30s)] | [No]

Zhang Da Ye couldn't respond. Thirty seconds later, the screen disintegrated into sparkles, forming a one-meter magic circle around him.

Blue light flared. A small figure appeared—less than one meter tall.

It was a cat, mainly blue, with white paws, tail tip, and mouth area.

The cat stood upright, carrying a small red cloth bundle tied to a wooden stick, looking like it was leaving home.

As the magic faded, a screen reformed above Zhang Da Ye's wrist:

**Name:** Tom

**Aliases:** Thomas, Jasper, Tom Ao Tian, Fake Mature, Second Kid, Big Potato, etc.

**Profile:** A magical cat from the world of *Tom & Jerry*, seemingly immortal. One day, Tom's original owner brought home a robot cat, temporarily driving Jerry away. Unable to catch Jerry, Tom was kicked out.

A pop-up warned: **"Energy below 3%. Will shut down in 30s. Recharge soon."**

Tom curiously stared at the screen, looking around, then focused on Zhang Da Ye.

Zhang Da Ye looked pale, lips cracked and bloodless. Tom immediately checked his heartbeat, eyes, mouth…

After a professional-looking inspection, Tom opened his small bundle: milk, three cans of fish, and some green bills.

He poured the milk into Zhang Da Ye's mouth. Surprisingly, it went down smoothly.

"Slurp~ Hah~" Tom licked the last drops from the bottle and sat obediently beside him.

Zhang Da Ye opened his eyes, realizing he no longer felt starving. He tasted milk in his mouth and asked, "Did you give me milk?"

Tom nodded with a smile, showing tiny white teeth.

"Thanks, Tom!" Zhang Da Ye felt secure. With Tom around, he thought he could survive.

First came Tom, then came hope. Drifting at sea wasn't scary—with Tom, even sharks were manageable.
