Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 – Ember Spiral Unleashed

Smoke lingered over Ashroad village like a stubborn shadow, a reminder of the last battle. Kaelen, Mira, and Flint patrolled the eastern ridge, eyes sharp, hearts steady.

"This time," Mira muttered, "they won't just send scouts. The Stonefang are smarter. They've learned from yesterday."

Flint adjusted his satchel, muttering, "Great. More enemies, more danger, and probably more rocks. Fantastic."

Kaelen clenched his spear, feeling the ember pulse in response to the tension. The Code of Ash demands control, but also courage.

A distant roar echoed from the plateau. Dozens of Stonefang warriors appeared, led by a massive, scarred man wielding dual molten axes. Behind him, two fire-forged beasts, half-lion, half-dragon, lumbered forward, their molten veins glowing like embers in the twilight.

"Now it gets serious," Kaelen muttered.

Mira notched two arrows at once, eyes narrowing. "Stay close. Use the terrain. Kaelen… trust the Ember Spiral."

Flint grinned nervously. "And I'll… do the funny genius thing. That always helps, right?"

Kaelen smirked faintly. "Right. Let's survive first."

The Stonefang commander charged. Kaelen planted his spear, focusing the ember within. The coils glimmered, spinning rapidly. With a surge of intent, he unleashed the Ember Spiral.

Ashfire erupted in spiraling waves, cutting through the ranks of Stonefang warriors while leaving Mira and Flint unharmed. The fire swirled like molten gold, creating barriers, pushing enemies back, and controlling the battlefield.

Mira shot arrows that split mid-air, hitting the enemies forced off balance. Flint leapt from rock to rock, deploying nets, traps, and small explosive devices to disrupt the beasts.

The synergy was perfect: Kaelen's raw power, Mira's precision, Flint's improvisation. Together, they became a force the Stonefang hadn't anticipated

One of the fire-forged beasts broke through Flint's traps, its claws dripping molten rock. Kaelen met it head-on, spinning the spear to expand the Ember Spiral. Sparks and molten fragments flew, scorching the beast but not harming the villagers.

Mira called out, "Kaelen! To the left!"

Kaelen adjusted mid-attack, redirecting the spiral and forcing the beast into a trap Flint had hastily set. With a final surge, the Ember Spiral engulfed the beast, forcing it to retreat with a roar of fury.

Flint panted. "I… I think we actually did it. That's teamwork, baby!"

Kaelen, sweaty and ash-streaked, lowered his spear. "We survived… but they'll be back. And stronger."

As the last of the Stonefang forces retreated, the trio gathered on the ridge. Kaelen's spear glimmered faintly, the ember inside him settling into a steady, controlled pulse.

Mira placed a hand on his shoulder. "You're improving faster than I thought. The Code responds to you… and you're starting to fight as more than just yourself."

Flint grinned, nudging Kaelen. "See? Told you, Ashboy. Sparks and brains—unstoppable combo. We're basically legends already."

Kaelen laughed quietly, the ember inside him warming with camaraderie. He realized that Flint's humor and Mira's guidance weren't just support—they were part of the Road.

High above, beyond the clouds, two golden eyes glimmered. A colossal serpentine form coiled around the distant peaks, watching the Ember Spiral strike the battlefield below.

A child of fire, yet so much more… the serpent hissed. The Golden Road calls him, and the sparks he leaves will echo across realms.

Another pair of silver eyes, humanoid and radiant, observed from afar. The boy is awakening. His Code will draw allies… and enemies. And the world above will not remain still. The trio stared at the horizon, knowing the Stonefang would return—and that beyond them, forces far greater than clans and beasts were already taking notice.

The Golden Road stretched ahead, and Kaelen's journey had only begun.
