The First Sight

It's not dark yet, but the view isn't clear either. The last bit of sunshine lingers at the far end of the horizon. It feels like it's struggling to stay. Jake turns on the torch on his phone, but the light fades into the sunshine.

"Why the hell did I say yes to your stupid idea?" Jake whispers to his friend Daniel who is walking next to him.

"Mate, you're also curious about this dancing ghost. Don't blame me," Daniel says.

"Alright. But if we see nothing here, I'm gonna take back my PS5."

"Dude, chill. Wait, did you hear that?" Daniel seems to hear something scary. He stops walking, standing there with his eyes wide, as if in shock.

"Quit it, Daniel, there's nothing here. Stop your shitty acting." Jake isn't happy with Daniel's little drama.

"No, dude, seriously, listen closely! Someone is sighing!"

"What do you even mean by that? There's no one else here but us!"

All of a sudden, an Asian girl with a high ponytail appears in Jake's line of sight. It feels like she comes out of nowhere, like a shadow emerging from that last bit of sunshine. Jake can definitely tell this girl isn't a ghost, because she pushes him while running towards the river and shouting in accented English at the same time,

"Get away now! Do you guys have a death wish?"

Even years later, Jake still remembers this exact moment very clearly. That girl comes from that last bit of sunshine, looking like she carries a halo. Her high ponytail makes her look so energetic, and the serious look on her face is just like a little hammer that suddenly knocks on his heart, enough to take his breath away but still leaving space for him to think. His only thought at that moment is: Damn, she's gorgeous.
