Chapter 32 - Gathering the Champions

Chapter Seven: Gathering the Champions

Rezil stood atop a cliff overlooking the vast lands of Greed, the wind tugging at his cloak. The light of the setting sun painted the mountains in shades of crimson and gold. His eyes, sharp and calculating, scanned the horizon. Each shadow, each movement in the distance, might be a potential ally—or a threat.

"This mission… it isn't just about power," Rezil murmured. "It's about survival… and understanding the true weight of Nagitsuna."

He began traveling from village to village, city to city, seeking the strongest users of Nagitsuna. Each person he approached had a spark within them—a unique energy waiting to be honed. Some could manipulate elements, others could bend reality in small ways, and a few held terrifying abilities that even Rezil felt a twinge of fear toward.

His first recruit was Kael, a boy who could manipulate shadows, blending into darkness and emerging unseen. When Rezil found him, Kael was practicing silently in the ruins of an old temple, his movements precise yet chaotic.

"You have potential," Rezil said, observing him carefully. "But potential is worthless without guidance. Will you follow me?"

Kael's eyes flickered with suspicion, but the mention of the threats lurking beyond their lands—the unseen hands of Nalou—convinced him. He nodded, and with a swift motion, shadows coiled around him like living serpents, ready for the journey ahead.

Next, Rezil found Mira, a girl whose voice could shape wind and sound, turning whispers into gale-force winds or shattering walls with a scream. She had been hiding in a remote forest, fearing the misuse of her abilities.

"You think hiding will protect anyone?" Rezil asked, his tone firm but patient. "The world is changing. If we don't act, Nalou will bend it to his will. Your voice… your gift… it can tip the balance."

Mira hesitated, memories of destruction flashing in her eyes. But she saw the determination in Rezil, the same fire that had driven him through the tunnels of revelation. With a deep breath, she joined, letting the wind dance around her as if greeting an old ally.

One by one, Rezil gathered others: warriors who could summon illusions from memories, healers who drew power from pain, and strategists whose minds worked faster than any machine. Each had a past scarred by chaos, yet each now found purpose in the unity Rezil offered.

As the group grew, whispers of the looming confrontation reached them. People spoke of Nalou with fear and awe, of the spirit apples, of the strange transformations that had begun in villages far and wide. Each story strengthened their resolve; failure was not an option.

But even as they trained, mysteries began to surface. Some recruits reported visions—glimpses of reality bending, echoes of people long gone, and moments that felt both familiar and alien. The energy of Nagitsuna was not merely a tool; it had a consciousness, guiding, testing, and sometimes deceiving those who wielded it.

Rezil gathered the team around a campfire one night. The flames flickered, casting tall, dancing shadows across their faces.

"We are not just fighting for survival," he began, his voice echoing in the still night. "We are fighting for truth. Nalou isn't merely a tyrant. He knows secrets the world forgot. He knows how to use Nagitsuna… better than any of us. Our only chance is to understand it first, to master it before he strikes again."

A heavy silence followed. Each member felt the weight of the mission pressing down, but also a strange sense of unity. They weren't alone in the shadows anymore.

Suddenly, the night erupted. A wave of distorted energy tore through the forest, twisting trees and rocks. The source: a shadowy figure observing them from a distance. It was clear Nalou had known of their assembly.

Rezil gritted his teeth, feeling the familiar surge of resolve. "Then let him come. We will be ready."

The stars above seemed to shimmer, as if acknowledging the beginning of a war not just of power, but of philosophy, destiny, and the very essence of humanity.

And thus, the first true chapter of their rebellion had begun.
