The purple Chidori Sharp Spear, extending for dozens of meters, shot forth vertically from the tip of Horitake's Weiguang. In a single instant, it breached the triple-layered attack and pierced directly into the gaping mouth of the central Wood Dragon.
To be precise, it stabbed straight into the Wood Dragon's throat!
What had been roaring from this dragon's mouth was a high-decibel sonic wave.
But because of the Chidori Sharp Spear's strike, the Wood Dragon was instantly muted. Its mouth remained wide open, but it began to tremble violently.
Standing at the other end, Horitake put a little more effort into it, funneling in an additional surge of lightning.
In the blink of an eye, the Chidori Sharp Spear extended another two meters. The purple-glowing spear tip exited with a squelch, drilling right out the back of the Wood Dragon's head!
In other words, this Chidori Sharp Spear had completely skewered the Wood Dragon's skull!
Horitake twisted the handle of Weiguang, simultaneously rotating the massive, dozens-of-meters-long energy spear. As the purple lightning surged along the beam, the Wood Dragon's head was twisted with a sickening crack-crack-crunch until it was reduced to a pile of rotten wood!
But he didn't stop there. Horitake effortlessly lifted the massive Chidori Sharp Spear. From a distance, it looked as if Horitake's sword itself had elongated by dozens of meters!
Purple light flashed—Swish! Swish!—two clean cuts!
The remaining two Wood Dragons, still in the middle of spewing their attacks, misfired instantly. They had been chopped into seven or eight pieces by Horitake, collapsing into heaps of scrap wood!
Horitake leaped high into the air. Brandishing the colossal Chidori Sharp Spear, he took aim at Zohakuten in the distance and brought it crashing down with a boom!
From Zohakuten's perspective, it looked as if Horitake was swinging a fifty-meter-long blade directly at him! The visual impact was far beyond merely "shocking"—it was terrifying!
What else could Zohakuten do? Run!
With a deafening boom, the massive Chidori Sharp Spear smashed into the empty ground, gouging out a bottomless fissure dozens of meters long!
Seeing Zohakuten sprinting away, Horitake raised the spear again and swept it horizontally!
Zohakuten was quick to admit defeat when necessary. Disregarding all dignity, he felt the wind pressure assaulting his back and, without a word, flopped onto his stomach, prostrating himself on the ground to duck the sweep!
The Chidori Sharp Spear whooshed overhead. The large grove of peach trees in front of him was instantly sheared, leaving only short stumps; the trunks and branches were completely leveled!
Having narrowly escaped death again, Zohakuten scrambled to his feet and resumed running frantically.
Horitake swung the massive spear once more, chopping down toward Zohakuten!
Zohakuten jumped high in a panic, dodging the chop by a hair's breadth!
This strike blasted another trench into the earth, dozens of meters long.
Far away, perched in a tree, Jigoro and Zenitsu watched the scene unfold.
The sight of Horitake wielding a lightning spear dozens of meters long to hunt down a single person was simply too spectacular, too grandiose. It was unheard of!
However, the little old man, Jigoro, was on the verge of a breakdown.
Watching Horitake casually swing and smash, destroying large swathes of peach trees with every movement, he wanted to cry but had no tears left.
"It's over. The yield of peaches on Peach Mountain is going to drop significantly this year..."
Beside him, Zenitsu looked at Jigoro with sympathy.
"Grandpa, my condolences."
One might ask: since Horitake was wielding a Chidori Sharp Spear that was dozens of meters long, why couldn't he hit Zohakuten?
Of course, it was difficult to hit him.
To wield a weapon that long with the dexterity of one's own arm was practically impossible. Pursuing such extreme length and range inevitably meant sacrificing some agility.
That was why Zohakuten was able to dodge by a hair every single time.
Horitake didn't retract the spear, however. He intended to hunt Zohakuten down exactly like this. He wanted Zohakuten to flee in panic; he wanted him to suffer the exhaustion of running for his life.
In short, he simply didn't want Zohakuten to have an easy time!
And indeed, Zohakuten was in a wretched state.
His desperate evasion was miserable. He had to remain vigilant at every second; a lightning spear of that length wasn't something he could dodge every time.
If he lost focus for even a moment, if he was careless for a split second, he would be done for.
After fleeing for who knows how long, Zohakuten finally couldn't take it anymore. Finding a tiny opening, he turned around to fight Horitake with everything he had.
He raised the drumsticks in both hands and desperately beat the taiko drums on his back, unleashing his final and greatest technique:
"Blood Demon Art: Karmic Tree of Avici!"
Rumble, rumble! The earth began to quake and roar. Countless giant Wood Dragons drilled out of the ground. Centered around Zohakuten, they surged forward in an overwhelming wave, rolling over one another with the momentum to sweep away everything in their path!
The range of this attack was too vast. The number of Wood Dragons summoned was too great. The commotion caused was too loud.
Horitake stood his ground, watching everything before him.
Countless Wood Dragons, seeming to have gone mad, churned and shattered the earth, sweeping through and destroying everything as they pushed toward him with an undying momentum!
Because of the sheer scale of this move, the entirety of Peach Mountain seemed to undergo an earthquake, roaring and shaking violently!
Jigoro, watching from the distant tree, saw that the situation was bad. He immediately grabbed Zenitsu and retreated rapidly to avoid being caught in the blast radius of such a massive attack.
The earthquake-like tremors even reached the town at the foot of Peach Mountain.
In the town, the two demons who had been waiting for their meal lost their footing due to the vibrations and nearly fell over.
The two demons looked at each other in confusion.
"Earthquake?"
"It doesn't seem like it. It feels like the commotion is coming from the mountain."
The two demons looked toward Peach Mountain with uncertainty, but because the night was too dark, they couldn't see anything clearly.
They weren't the only ones. Many sleeping townspeople were startled awake by the tremors. Assuming it was an earthquake, many lit their lamps to check.
Back on the mountain, Horitake stood still, looking at the Karmic Tree of Avici and the countless Wood Dragons rolling toward him. He nodded with a serious expression.
"This move reminds me of Wood Style: Deep Forest Emergence."
"Although the quality is far inferior to that move, the quantity and momentum do carry a shadow of it."
"Interesting. Not bad."
"To show my respect, I'll use a move I've never used against an enemy before."
Horitake gripped his sword with both hands, planted his feet firmly, sank his qi into his dantian, and returned to a state of tranquility.
"Thunder Breathing, Fourth Form: Thunder Half-Moon Slash!"
Purple thunder emerged over Horitake's body, displaying its brilliance in full glory. The dazzling purple lightning condensed onto the blade of Weiguang, seeming both fast and slow at the same time.
By this moment, the rolling mass of countless Wood Dragons was less than ten meters away from Horitake—almost right in his face.
Horitake raised Weiguang and slashed forward with relaxed ease!
A beam of purple light, formed entirely of condensed thunder, transformed into a half-moon arc slash and shot vertically forward!
From the moment this Thunder Half-Moon Slash left the blade of Weiguang, it suddenly expanded against the wind!
The purple half-moon arc, initially less than two meters high, skyrocketed in size—growing to several meters, then over ten meters, and finally reaching a terrifying height of dozens of meters!
The colossal purple half-moon arc, towering dozens of meters high, sliced through the countless Wood Dragons effortlessly. The cut was silky smooth, relaxed, and utterly casual.
