Chapter 2 – A Small Coincidence
The next morning, Su Zaizai found herself waking up unusually early. Maybe it was the excitement of starting a new school year, or maybe it was curiosity about the boy by the window — Zhang Lurang. She shook her head, blaming herself for thinking too much.
When she arrived at school, the corridors were bustling as usual. She walked briskly toward her classroom, hoping to grab her favorite window seat before anyone else did.
But when she reached the door, she froze.
Zhang Lurang was already there, leaning casually against the frame of the window, eyes fixed outside. He didn't notice her at first.
Zaizai hesitated. Should she ask him to move? Or just sit quietly in the seat next to him? She chose the latter, sliding into her chair with a soft sigh.
"Morning," she said softly, trying to sound casual.
The boy didn't reply. Not yet. Instead, he tilted his head just slightly, giving her the faintest acknowledgment. His eyes, dark and unreadable, returned to the view outside.
Zaizai tried to focus on her notebook, doodling absentmindedly. But a sudden laugh from behind made her glance up. Her best friend, Guo Jing, waved at her excitedly.
"Zaizai! You have to see this!"
Before she could answer, a coin fell from the sky — literally. It bounced off the edge of the windowsill and rolled near Zaizai's feet. She picked it up, confused, and looked up.
Zhang Lurang had a faint smirk on his face, though his eyes were still calm.
"Careful," he said quietly. "It could have hit you."
Zaizai's cheeks warmed. Did he just… throw that at me? she wondered, half annoyed, half intrigued.
Guo Jing, on the other hand, burst out laughing. "What's going on? Did he just… throw a coin at you?"
Zaizai could only glare at her friend, feeling the strange tension of something new stirring between her and the quiet boy.
It was a small, unexpected coincidence — just a coin falling from a window. But for Zaizai, it felt like the start of something that would change her ordinary days completely.
And Zhang Lurang? He didn't say another word. He simply watched the sky, as if waiting for something… or someone.
