Chapter 1 - Echoes of What’s to Come

True love is blind and ready for forgiveness.

Forgets about treason, lies, and pain,

Whatever happens, you will just believe him.

That he won't be so cruel with you again.

The love is deaf because you hear just nothing,

You only know the things you want to know.

And you are glad when he just lives, your darling,

Which means there's a chance to hug again, your love.

Love does not wait for greetings and for answers,

You can give up on everything for him.

And he can be somewhere, even with someone...

He is! And happiness is just to know about it!

True love will not be careless, never ever.

For him, you can make any sacrifice.

It'll leave a mark on our souls forever,

Yet still, it feels like tears in paradise.

Marie flinched at the soft knock on the door. The girl quickly wiped away her tears, which a second ago had streamed in thin rivulets down her cheeks and methodically dripped onto the silk pillow.

— Come in, Mom, — Marie said quietly, trying to mask the betrayed notes of sadness in her voice.

A graceful young woman entered the room. She had recently turned forty, but she could easily be mistaken for thirty; her noble beauty was like a diamond, refined year after year by a talented jeweler determined to make his perfect creation even more flawless.

The woman carefully sat on the edge of a small beige sofa, gently stroking her daughter's wheat-blonde hair.

Marie resembled her mother so much: the same fiery eyes with a malachite spark, the same proud and independent character, the same troubles… Parents could never allow their children to repeat their mistakes.

— You're crying again…

— I don't know what to do, Mom. I feel like I can't live without him, — Marie let the tears flow again. — I just can't believe he feels nothing for me… It can't be… Did I only imagine that he loves me…

— Call him! — her mother confidently handed Marie her mobile. Many dismissed a girl's first tears, but she knew there was no purer, more devoted feeling than youthful love.

— Mom, no! I can't! What do I say to him… — Marie took the phone timidly.

— Say what you wrote in your diary…

— Can you really say that to a boy…?

– Sometimes we shyly remain silent, or pride prevents us from opening up, and later we would give anything just to say a few words. But nothing can be taken back… And literally a few spoken or unspoken words can change our fate.

— What do you even know about this! Have you ever suffered like I have?! You were always happy with Dad!

— Don't doubt me, Marie. I've been through much more than you can imagine. Perhaps one day I will tell you about it, but for now, just trust me. Call him! I won't get in your way.

As she left the room, the woman paused for a second, slowly tracing her fingers over her wrist, where a faded tattoo was barely visible. A delicate daisy, meant to cover a small line on her arm that had divided her life into two parts, was almost always hidden beneath expensive bracelets to avoid unnecessary questions. Who could imagine how many vivid, otherworldly memories, destined to remain forever deep in the soul, were evoked by the mere sight of this unremarkable flower…
