"DXD: Infinite Loot System"Chapter 348: The Counteroffensive
Across the sprawling plains, a sea of Khaos Brigade and Old Satan Faction troops surged forward—tens of thousands strong, a living tide of chaos and rebellion.
High above, Rias and her girls hovered in formation, crimson hair blazing against the sky. Beneath them, the Nine-Tails Legion bristled, tails lashing, battle lines locked and ready.
"President Rias, the enemy's within range," Gasper reported, his form coalescing from a cloud of bats.
"Good work, Gasper. Take a break—you've earned it."
Gasper's reconnaissance was invaluable; his vampire powers made him the perfect scout, slipping unnoticed through the shadows. Rias had put him on intelligence duty before the fighting began, and he'd delivered every time.
Now, as the enemy closed in, Rias's eyes flashed cold steel. She was the next head of House Gremory, and mercy wasn't in her playbook.
These bastards had shattered the peace of the Underworld. Every last one deserved to die.
"Attack!"
With a thought, Rias triggered the control authority Tenra had passed to her—commanding the Nine-Tails Legion below.
"ROOOAAARRR!"
The great Nine-Tails in front, and hundreds of smaller kin behind, unleashed a chorus of howls. Crimson, crackling Tailed Beast Bombs coalesced in their jaws, then erupted across the battlefield.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Screams tore through the air as explosions lit up the plains. The Nine-Tails Legion hammered the enemy like relentless artillery, burning through their ranks without pause.
By the time the battered survivors reached the Maou army's lines, barely half remained.
"Charge!"
Rias and her peerage dove from the sky, magic flaring. The Maou troops surged forward—mages unleashing spells from the rear, swordsmen and spearmen clashing head-on in the blood-soaked mud.
Battle cries and death screams rose together, painting the plain with chaos and carnage.
Elsewhere, above a glittering stretch of water, thousands of rebel magicians streaked through the air—an elite strike team, racing toward their target city for an aerial assault.
But the water below was anything but safe.
WHOOSH!
A single column of water erupted skyward, catching one unlucky rebel and blasting him so high he vanished into the clouds.
For a moment, silence. Then, hundreds more water spouts exploded upward, snatching rebels from the sky, bodies flung into oblivion.
"Ambush!"
"Scatter! Break formation!"
"AAAHHH!"
The squad captain screamed, but panic was useless. One by one, his troops were snatched and hurled into the sky, erased without a trace. In the end, even he was swallowed by the watery onslaught.
"So strong!"
"As expected from Lord Tenra's magical beasts!"
Below the waves, Sona and her peerage surfaced, cheeks flushed with triumph. Ruruko and Momo clenched their fists, eyes shining.
Beneath their feet, hundreds of ox-headed, octopus-tailed monsters lurked, blowing bubbles and blinking up at their masters. Anyone else would've been terrified, but the girls found them oddly adorable.
"Lady Sona, the enemy's other squad will arrive in thirty minutes," Tsubaki reported, relaying the latest intel.
"Keep hidden. Wipe them out—leave no survivors."
Sona adjusted her glasses, voice cold as ice.
"Yes, ma'am!"
With that, the girls slipped back underwater, monsters in tow.
The city was battered, half-ruined, the scars of battle fresh and raw. Tenra and Yubelluna's group had carved out a temporary stronghold, catching their breath after another round of fighting.
Eight days into the war. Every day, Tenra and his peerage teleported from front to front, lending strength wherever the lines buckled. When their power waned, they retreated to Lucifaad, where Tenra conjured more magical beasts—reinforcements for every battlefield.
This was war on a scale the Underworld had never seen: the Old Maou Faction's final, desperate counterattack. Khaos Brigade and other reactionary forces exploited the chaos, and the casualties mounted—each day, more lives lost, more ground burned.
But the Old Maou era was finished. No matter how they struggled, defeat was inevitable.
Sirzechs and Azazel had paid a "cordial" visit to the Grim Reaper King, neutralizing that threat. Angels, Fallen Angels, and Norse gods joined the coalition, reinforcements pouring in from every corner. Under relentless counterattacks, the rebels crumbled, their defeat now only a matter of time.
War brought sorrow and tears, but it also forged heroes. Serafall froze entire enemy-occupied cities into ice sculptures; Rias and Sona led the Nine-Tails Legion through dozens of battles, holding the lines and annihilating thousands. Sairaorg, Seekvaira, and others earned glory with every charge.
Tenra wasn't always at the front—sometimes it felt like he was just running errands. But the magical beast legions he created turned the tide everywhere they appeared, a force multiplier whose impact couldn't be overstated.
And then there were Ddraig and Albion—the mother dragons unleashed. Wherever they flew, enemies were obliterated, armies routed or surrendering on sight. Their reputation alone was enough to break enemy morale; to face them was to face death itself.
Don't run? Die. Don't surrender? Die.
Ddraig and Albion were simply reveling in their newfound freedom, but their rampages made them legends among the Underworld's devils. Devils worship strength, and these two stood at the pinnacle—now fighting for "justice," they were adored by the masses. Crowds cheered as they passed overhead, and even Tenra basked in the reflected glory.
Not that any of them cared much for fame.
"Mother, go for it!"
On the TV's live broadcast, a golden Nine-Tailed Fox spat hellfire at Khaos Brigade troops, with Kunou perched on her back, shouting encouragement.
That golden fox was Yasaka, leader of Kyoto's youkai. When the Underworld erupted, she'd brought her forces to aid the defense.
Tenra hadn't had a chance to meet Yasaka yet—things had been too hectic. But there'd be time to catch up when the war was finally over.
