"DXD: Infinite Loot System"Chapter 346: The Cold Maid

Boom! Boom-boom-boom!

Black smoke rolled through the ruined streets, explosions and screams echoing in every direction. The town, once lively and full of promise, was now a shattered husk—another casualty of war.

Just as Sirzechs had warned, this was a crisis unlike any before. The Old Satan Faction, Khaos Brigade, and every rebel group unhappy with the Underworld's rule had united into a single force, sweeping across the realm in a tide of destruction. Even if victory was possible, the scars left behind would be deep.

But Tenra wasn't thinking about politics. Right now, survival was all that mattered.

"You devils—I won't let you control me anymore!"

"All of you—just die! Die! Hahaha!"

He and Grayfia walked calmly down the battered street. Out of nowhere, a blood-soaked man lunged at them, wild-eyed and desperate.

After the war began, stories like this were everywhere—servants turning on their masters, defecting to the enemy. Not every King had the loyalty Tenra or Rias inspired; most peerages were built on force, not friendship. Years of resentment, finally given a chance to erupt.

This attacker was one of them. And, to Tenra's surprise, he was wielding a Sacred Gear.

A crimson gauntlet wrapped his left hand, eerily similar to the Boosted Gear's first form. He conjured an energy sphere and hurled it straight at Tenra and Grayfia.

The sphere sliced through the air—Tenra barely glanced at it before swatting it aside.

Boom!

The blast tore through a nearby building, sending stone and dust flying.

"No way!" The man stared, eyes bulging in disbelief.

"Die! Die! Die!" He fired again, dozens of energy spheres raining down in a frenzy.

Hatred twisted his face—anyone watching might think Tenra had murdered his family.

The attacks weren't weak, but against Tenra and Grayfia, they were laughable. Tenra summoned his barrier; the spheres exploded harmlessly, not even scratching him.

Grayfia didn't bother with defenses. Every sphere meant for her simply curved away, as if the air itself refused to let them touch her.

"You monsters!" The man finally realized the truth—he was hopelessly outmatched. He spun to run.

But escape was never that easy.

Tenra's shadow surged forward, freezing the man mid-step.

"Ahh—I won't let you control me anymore! Curse you! Curse you both!"

He thrashed, cursing them with every breath.

Tenra sighed. "Buddy, we're not the ones who did this to you. Why curse us?"

He shrugged. "Whatever. Since you're here, I'll take that Sacred Gear off your hands."

Without ceremony, Tenra stepped up and activated his Plunder. His hand plunged into the man's chest.

"Aaaagh!"

The man screamed as Tenra tore the Gear free, then collapsed, convulsing on the ground.

"You're… you're that…!" Recognition dawned, and terror replaced rage. The Phoenix monster—he'd run into Tenra Kamiyo himself. This was fate.

Tenra didn't care. He kicked the man, sending him crashing through walls and burying him in rubble.

He absorbed the Sacred Gear, feeling its power settle inside him.

Twice Critical—"Multiplication." A Gear so common it was practically a joke. It could double the user's strength for a short time, but compared to the true Boosted Gear, it was a child's toy.

Tenra shook his head. He was one step from transcending, but plundering weak Gears—even a hundred of them—wouldn't get him there. He needed the legendary Longinus.

"Lord Tenra!"

Yubelluna and the girls flashed into view, bowing.

"What's the situation?" Tenra asked, pulling himself back from his thoughts.

"Survivors have all been evacuated. But the enemy's main force is approaching. We can't hold this town."

Yubelluna's voice was steady, but her eyes were grim.

Tenra frowned. Golden wings unfurled at his feet, and he soared into the sky, rising hundreds of meters above the chaos.

Just as Yubelluna said—a black tide was sweeping toward them. Tens of thousands strong: devils, humans, and more than a few powerful presences mixed in.

This wasn't a skirmish. It was war, brutal and unforgiving. Outnumbered and outgunned, retreat was the only smart move.

But retreating left a bitter taste.

Tenra glanced sideways at Grayfia, who hovered beside him, untouched by the turmoil.

"Grayfia, you could stop them, couldn't you?"

She nodded. "I could."

"But my orders are to protect you. I won't waste power on pointless battles."

Her gaze was cool, almost dismissive.

"Tenra Kamiyo, if you truly want to help, come with me. Recover your strength and create more magical beasts for the alliance. Don't waste time playing hero."

Tenra let out a rueful laugh. "Ouch. Even coming from you, that stings."

"First—if the battle needs it, I'll make more beasts."

"Second—I'm not playing hero, and I don't care about the title. I just want to do my part. My family and friends live here. I won't let rebels destroy everything."

Grayfia's eyes flickered, just for a moment—something almost human behind the ice.

"Well, if you won't step up, I'll handle it myself."

She shook her head. "Impossible. You haven't even recovered half your power. Even with your peerage, you can't stop their army."

Tenra's lips curled into a confident grin.

"Maybe so. But I've got one last trick up my sleeve—and this is the perfect time to test it."
