Chapter 92 - DG 92: A Savior

Two girls from the 21st century.

With the lofty goal of "saving human history." They arrived in this chaotic, tangled era.

The last Master of humanity was meant to overcome countless trials, rally their allies, defeat the final boss, and save this history... that was the intended script.

But when these two young girls mustered their courage and arrived in this era with a "certain victory" mindset, they found things weren't as they'd imagined.

Save the world? What part of this world needed their saving?

Forget enemies... they couldn't even find a single person!

They trekked for an entire day across this apocalyptic land. At dusk, they finally reached a grand city and found a brightly lit castle within.

"Lucky us, finding an inhabited castle before nightfall."

"Ahh, there's even a bed... this is too comfy!"

Ritsuka Fujimaru... a fiery-haired high school girl bearing a great responsibility yet fundamentally ordinary... collapsed onto the castle's large bed after a day of exhausting travel, refusing to move.

"Senpai, please be careful..."

Mash, sitting on a chair to catch her breath, remained vigilant.

She scanned the surroundings, searching for potential traps hidden in the room... her instincts told her they'd stumbled into a very dangerous place.

But she had no proof.

Oh, and one minor detail nagged at her, though it seemed trivial.

Fou... the fluffy white creature with long ears... had suddenly scampered over to a white dragon upon entering the castle, chattering away with it.

The scene gave Mash an overwhelming sense of déjà vu, as if she'd witnessed it countless times before.

Yet when she tried to recall, she couldn't pinpoint where this familiarity came from.

Not her fault, really.

It had been a year since she left Britain.

Some memories had faded.

More importantly, she couldn't connect the majestic white dragon that once upheld the entirety of Britain with this three-to-four-meter-long white dragon.

... They didn't even seem like the same species!

...

Orleans Castle, the basement.

Once a wine cellar, it had been converted into a magical workshop by a mage.

Now, it served as Jeanne Alter's war council chamber.

"Why do we have to hold a meeting in such a dark, creepy place?"

Elizabeth was displeased with the gloomy setting... it clashed with her flamboyant aesthetic.

Kiyohime, born from darkness and destined to return to it, actually liked the environment.

As for Jeanne Alter... she just felt her "shady" conspiracy needed an equally shadowy setting, so she instinctively chose this lightless basement.

"Mystery, got it? It's about creating an air of mystery!"

Jeanne Alter shot Elizabeth a glare... but seeing no change in her expression, she dropped the matter.

"You both know who those two are, right?"

Jeanne Alter got straight to the point, sharing her thoughts.

To her, the purple-haired girl named Mash Kyrielight wasn't anything special... just a human turned Servant.

But that human named Ritsuka Fujimaru... no mistake, she was the Last Master of Humanity! Sent here with the mission to "save human history."

Kiyohime and Elizabeth felt this even more keenly than she did.

"Yeah, I sensed her aura too."

"But I have no intention of forming a contract with her."

Kiyohime and Elizabeth said in unison.

It was rare for them to agree so completely.

Saving the world? That was for holy kings, heroes, and saints.

What did it have to do with "monsters" like them?

"Then why don't we..."

Jeanne Alter's tone turned chilling.

Truth be told, the moment she saw those two girls, a thought crossed her mind: seize this golden opportunity, kill them, and be done with it.

But, even she didn't know why... she suddenly recoiled from the idea.

She felt that after that defeat... no, after sobbing her heart out three hours ago, she'd become a different person.

Her core remained wrath, unchanging. Yet beyond that fire, something indescribable had taken root... she felt a newfound sense of hesitation, of caring too much.

"So, what's your plan moving forward?"

"You've got to have a goal, right?"

"Or are you giving up on revenge?"

Elizabeth, seeing Jeanne Alter's listless demeanor, curiously asked about her next steps.

Jeanne Alter nodded, then shook her head.

She'd never abandon revenge... the shame of betrayal was unforgettable. Especially that king who orchestrated her downfall and the saint who stood on the walls, blocking her vengeful flames. She wanted to burn their souls to ash... but beyond that? She had to do something else, didn't she?

"I don't know."

"I just know I can't let this world be destroyed... or myself."

"I've got other things to do."

As she spoke, Jeanne Alter's gaze drifted to the white dragon nearby, amiably interacting with a fluffy white creature.

She hadn't forgotten her promise.

... She'd vowed to make barbecue for that dragon every day, in exchange for it never leaving her.
