Chapter 84 - DG 84: Save the World?

It was a wish the witch herself hadn't even realized.

Not to exist as someone's shadow, nor as the "saint" in someone's mind.

But as herself... Jeanne Alter, a unique being, to live earnestly in this world just once.

It was, in truth, a simple wish.

In this world, every life has the right to exist, and even a witch born from anger and curses is no exception.

Yet, it was a wish incredibly difficult to fulfill.

Setting aside whether this nation, on the brink of destruction, could still provide a space for ordinary people to live... looking at Jeanne Alter herself, she simply lacked the ability to survive in this world on her own.

She was, in essence, an infant.

Though she had inherited all the memories of the Saint of Orleans... in total, she had only been in this world for a little over a month.

At her core, she was a brand-new being, just one who was born an adult, equipped with someone else's memories and an anger she couldn't suppress.

"This is going to be tricky!"

To let Jeanne Alter live as a truly independent "person" just once... that was undoubtedly a daunting challenge.

But Alaric was excited.

He relished difficult challenges... and he had already thought of a solution.

"People don't exist in isolation... To live as a true person in this world, one cannot avoid interacting with others."

"Of course, expecting Jeanne Alter to get along with actual humans might be asking too much of both sides."

"But... thanks to the Holy Grail War, it seems two 'monsters' have been summoned into this world who might share some common ground with her."

Alaric looked toward the east.

There, two dragon-related Servants, shunned by the world yet summoned because it was already in ruins, were traveling together... while bickering.

Yes, they'd do perfectly!

After pinpointing their general location, Alaric grabbed Jeanne Alter's armor with his claws and soared into the sky.

"Hey, hey, where are you taking me?!"

...

Alaric, carrying Jeanne Alter, flew straight eastward.

They passed over villages, seeing scorched wheat fields; over cities, seeing buildings reduced to rubble; and through dense forests, seeing wandering undead.

Finally, they arrived at a valley beside a stream.

Before they even landed, they spotted two small figures standing on opposite sides of the stream.

And their voices... dozens, no, hundreds of times louder than their tiny forms!

"You blasted eastern country bumpkin squirrel!"

"Hmph, you stinking western monitor lizard!"

"Japanese rat snake!"

"Mexican venomous lizard!"

"Viper!"

"Grass lizard!"

"Arghhh!"

The two unyielding girls were like cats with their fur standing on end, each defending their territory, hurling insults at the "enemy."

"Servants?"

Jeanne Alter, still in the sky, immediately realized these two girls were Servants... but not ones she had summoned.

They were Servants summoned by this land specifically to oppose her.

"Enemies!"

Startled, Jeanne Alter was about to say something.

But then, Alaric's claws suddenly released... dropping her from nearly a hundred meters in the air, straight down.

"Putain!!!"

It was an extremely vulgar French word, the lowest of the low even among curses.

But, well, it was understandable.

... This illiterate French village girl only knew such crude vocabulary!

...

Jeanne Alter plummeted from the sky.

For a Servant, a hundred meters wasn't too high, and with the stream below to cushion her fall... she wouldn't die.

But her entrance was nothing short of earth-shattering.

Splash!

Crashing into the stream in free fall, Jeanne Alter sent waves of water surging, white spray scattering everywhere, leaving the two bickering girls on the shore dumbfounded.

"Who's that?"

"Don't be daft, it's an enemy!"

The eastern snake-girl loli with cyan hair was noticeably more vigilant than the western dragon-girl loli with deep pink hair.

They could already sense the aura of destruction emanating from Jeanne Alter... a presence that instinctively repelled Servants dedicated to "saving the world." marking her as an enemy.

But, well, on second thought...

"She's trying to destroy the world, right?"

"Uh... seems like it."

"But what's that got to do with us? Are you here to protect the world?"

"Uh... I don't think I have that desire."

"Hm, if you put it that way, she might not be an enemy after all."

The two girls, now standing side by side, looked at the soaked yet still haughty black-clad witch with slightly bewildered gazes.

... Could someone tell them what she was so proud of?

...

The two odd lolis stared at Jeanne Alter with curiosity.

Of course, their guard wasn't down. If Jeanne Alter attacked, they'd counter in an instant.

But Jeanne Alter, clearly hesitant, didn't make a move.

... What a joke, she wasn't some brainless hero. A one-against-two fight where she'd clearly be at a disadvantage? No way she'd jump into that!

"So what's that white dragon's deal?"

"I was so good to him, so why did he betray me?!"

At that moment, Jeanne Alter was furious.

Betrayal, blatant betrayal! She swore that if she made it back alive, she'd make that ungrateful white dragon...

Roar!

Suddenly, a cheerful dragon's cry rang out.

The white dragon, carrying a massive creature in its jaws, descended from the sky, landing between Jeanne Alter and the two monster lolis with a smug expression.

... It was a large white fish.

Nearly a meter long, still wriggling fiercely.

"Wow!"

"Look at this white dragon, catching such a big fish so easily!"

"And you, a dragon-girl, can't even catch a fish the size of your hand... aren't you ashamed?"

"Shut up, I'm a dragon-girl, not a dragon!"
