The next few days went by without any noticeable event.
Kyle didn't get himself into trouble either. He had been in his room making his plans and arrangements and preparing himself for his training with the crown prince. A week had gone by and thanks to Lyla and her magic, his wounds were completely healed. Lyla had gradually grown on him. She became a friend, providing him with food and gossip to keep his life going. He knew there was a ball coming. He also knew the duke's daughters would be coming so the prince could choose a wife. Lyla had told him that the prince was against the idea of marrying their daughters so he sent out invitations to other kingdoms to attend with their princesses.
A lot had happened in the past week. He knew it it would get worse. If anything he would live for the drama that was to come. But right now he had to focus on himself first.
Right now he stood in the middle of the room, bathed and dressed, waiting for Lyla. He had gotten a new maid outfit thanks to Lyla. It wasn't what he would have preferred his day to day out to be but it's not like he had an option whatsoever, he mostly hated the head band. Lyla said it made him cute. He didn't want to be cute. He looked around the space looking for the head band that came with the maid outfit so he could toss it out before she came.
He had worked on the room, getting rid of the terrible smell from before. Lyla sneaked in some paint and joined him in cleaning up. He took out the old latrine buckets and the old mattress. He didn't even need a bucket as there was a fully functioning toilet not the modern types he had in his home but it was functional.
Lyla was definitely surprised when he said he wanted the paint for a clean up. She had told him of his reputation among the maids. The rumors were he was a dirty, dumb kid who liked men and was an orphan. They said he talked to himself and was aggressive when spoken to. Kyle remembered her surprise when she saw him him on the day he arrived here. All the maids knew Lucy had forced him into always rubbing the white powder out of jealousy but they couldn't understand why she'd be like that to someone as insane as him.
Kyle got to know that when the owner first came into the palace, the original owner wasn't always like that. Lyla said she knew when he came because the maids were talking about a new boy-maid who was calm and even more beautiful than the head maid. Kyle guessed that was what made Lucy mad and she probably threatened the poor boy into rubbing the powder. As for what made the boy become more and more aggressive nobody knew.
He had given Lyla the excuse of turning a new leaf. But he knew Lucy would come again for him sooner or later. Like the prince had said she didn't bother him again but he knew he would be seeing her again soon enough.
Kyle had been standing in the middle of the room waiting for Layla to come. He still didn't know his way around even after had studied the map of the castle Lyla got him. Studying wasn't his strong suit. But she insisted saying he might not have to wear the maid band. After hours of memorizing hallways and bathroom she came back to give him dinner and laughed at how easily he fell.
He still had the mind to toss the head band out the window. He looked around and saw the bag that belonged to the original owner. He had checked the bag a week ago and saw only the powder and some street clothes, probably the one the owner was wearing when he was brought into the palace. It was an old leather bag with some sort of design at the corner.
Kyle opened the bag again and saw the head band. He remembered keeping it in here.
Kyle was going towards the window when the door open and Layla stood there glaring. He was used to her glare. She glared all the time.
She looked like she was going to say something when she paused staring at him.
She still hadn't gotten used to his looks after the bruises healed. Even he hadn't gotten used to his looks yet. He had to admit his face was very beautiful and it had a calm and innocent structure.
Lyla recovered and opened her mouth, glare returning
"You will be late for your first meeting with the crown prince."
He had told Lyla about his meeting with the crown prince but he hadn't told her why they were meeting yet as he wasn't sure he could trust her that much. He had given her the excuse that the crown prince didn't want a boy maid in the castle. And he only wore the uniform because he didn't have anything else.
"Well you didn't come to pick me on time. I've been dressed since."
"Where is your headband it's part of the uniform you can't wear the outfit without the headband except you are calling for Lucy's attention." Kylie grimaced.
I knew I should've tossed the damned thing out the window when i had the chance to.
"Wear it and let's go." He didn't have a choice now. He put the frilly thing on.
Both of them walked out the door of his room into the hallway. As they past the other maids they received looks and whispered. Of course Lyla has been hanging around him for the past week so it's bound to bring rumors. Even Lucy had it in for her. Lyla had told him that that's rumors have started spreading about him leading her to a into a cult.
Like? Who spreads rumors like that?
Hanging around him and also turned her into Lucy's target. Her work load increased ten folds because of him.
They got to the main hallway leading to crown prince's study. When they go to a T, Lila told him to go right and knock on the office door while she went left saying she still had work to do.
She hadn't brought him breakfast this morning. He didn't want to ask her either. She had done too much for him it was causing her too much trouble. He got to the crown prince's study and knocked on the door.
"Come in." Came the rich voice.
Kyle opened the door slowly and walked into the familiar space slowly, looking around. The crown prince was in the middle of the eating breakfast and working.
"Your Highness." Kyle bowed in greeting.
"Have you had breakfast?"
Kyle was about to reply when his stomach grumbled loudly his face flushed red with embarrassment.
"No."
Alex remained calm as he pushed a magical button on his table. That's what it looked like at least.
A few minutes later, after Kyle had sat down, someone knocked on the door. Alex knew who it was from the kitchen.
"Come in." He called loudly.
The door opened.
Lucy walked in with perfectly straight hair and incredibly short skirt. She paused at the door clearly not expecting to see Kyle again in the crown prince's office.
Unmeasurable rage passed through her eyes as she glared at him.
Kyle batted his lashes at her and she fumed smoke.
"Put the food there and leave." The crown prince pointed to a smug Kyle and her anger turned into disbelief as if she couldn't believe the food she prepared meticulously was to be eaten by Kyle. She finally noticed the prince had his own breakfast tray on his desk.
When Lucy had noticed the Crown Prince calling for a tray in the kitchen she thought to use this medium to try to repair her already damaged image in the eyes of the Crown Prince. Not only did she prepare food, she also wrote a speech of heartfelt words hoping to get pity and attention from the crown prince but now that this orphan boy was here she couldn't say anything without making a fool of herself. So she dropped the tray concealing anger and clenched her fists with everything she had and bowed to the prince.
She walked out closing the door behind her and stomped the floor of the hallways as she went back into the kitchen.
Her mind was filled with plans on how to take revenge on the boy. She had finally decided she would kill him. She wanted him out before. But now that wouldn't do.
She turned a corner and ran into somebody. Lucy looked up to see a young man with brown hair and icy blue eyes. She immediately recognized him as the son of one of the Dukes. She bowed her head in apology. She hated how she had to bow to people.
'With my beauty people should bow to me instead.'
"I'm sorry I didn't see you coming."
"It's fine head maid Lucy. A beautiful girl like you should always be careful."
He took her hands and kissed the back of her fingers.
Lucy cringed inwardly. But gave a gentle smile.
"You were the one I was looking for."
