Chapter 1

Harry came to awareness slowly. He realized he was sitting in a truck in the passenger seat next to a man named Henri. But Henri wasn't really a man. Henri was Loric, an alien from the planet Lorien. Memories flooded into Harry's mind of living a life on the run. Harry's last memory before waking up in this truck was darkness. Harry remembered clearly tackling Voldemort through the veil of death in the Department of Mysteries. He had thought they would both die. After falling through the veil, Harry had released Riddle and felt like he was falling to pieces. Now Harry found himself inside another body. This was the body of Number Four, also of Lorien. Harry began to assimilate the important facts of the situation.

Four and five others called Five, Six, Seven, Eight, and Nine were being hunted along with their Cepan protectors like Henri by a malicious race of aliens known as the Mogadorians. Originally there had been Nine children. But One, Two, and Three had been killed signified by the scars burned into the ankles of the remaining Loric children. One day these nine children would develop powers that would threaten the Mogadorians. The Mogadorians had already wiped out the entire population of Lorien as the nine children and their Cepan protectors fled to Earth where they hid amongst the population. Four and Henri had been traveling from place to place since their arrival trying to stay hidden. A Loric charm meant that the nine children could only be killed in the order of their number. If they gathered together for too long then the charm would break. So, they stayed hidden even from each other.

"Have you settled on a new name?" Henri asked, interrupting Harry's assimilation of Four's memories.

Four had been thinking of John Smith as a new name. Harry decided to go with something a little different.

"Harry Smith," Harry replied. "It's a good name," Henri mused.

"Henri, why haven't you been teaching me more about Lorien's science and technology?" Harry asked.

"It wasn't deemed as being necessary at first. Inside each chest is a repository of all knowledge held by Lorien including on our science and technology. It is designed to teach you and was planned for once the Mogadorians are defeated. It was decided combat knowledge would be more important," Henri explained.

The chest Henri was referring to was a Loric chest each of the nine had which contained precious things from Lorien that would help them train in their abilities.

"But when fighting the fighting begins we're going to have to work our way around Mog technology most likely. Wouldn't knowing more advanced science and technology help us in that? I mean I know that Loric tech and Mog tech isn't exactly completely compatible. But they are similar in some places right?" Harry asked.

"You make a good point," Henri admitted. "It wouldn't hurt to start training you. We will do it when we arrive in Ohio."

Harry nodded as he continued to assimilate the memories from Number Four. Harry had been something of a science fiction fan in his old life. To have the ability to explore alien technology and not take it would have been foolish. It was extremely difficult for Harry not to let the sense of loss he felt inside to show to Henri.

Flashback

Harry was breathing heavily as he stared at Voldemort AKA Tom Riddle from a distance of only a few meters. The two of them had been fighting non-stop with magic for the last twenty minutes or so. The power the two of them had thrown around would be remembered for centuries to come. It was quite literally legendary for those watching to see. No one else had been able to get close. Harry had noticed those getting cut down on both sides. Yet he hadn't been able to intervene. He had to focus all his attention on Riddle. The only small amount of attention he had spared was to be aware of Hermione. She had just finished off two Death Eaters when she looked towards him and briefly caught his gaze. There was no other way.

"I'm sorry and I love you," Harry mouthed.

Harry was not sure if he was imagining it or if she had actually screamed his name as he had tackled Riddle through the veil. It was the way he could think of it. It had worked. Riddle had not expected Harry to sacrifice himself. Harry had already been close enough for the surprise physical move to work. Riddle had been raised a muggle yet had picked up the disdain for physical confrontation that most magicals developed. It had been his undoing.

End Flashback

Hermione had been his lover since after the Triwizard Tournament at the end of fourth year. They had been dating since their third year at Hogwarts. They had been engaged to be married when he had gone through the veil at the age of twenty-one. He deeply felt her loss. Henri's routine of filling in the backstory that had been developed helped distract Harry a little.

"Harry Smith was raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama," Henri said as they ate their lunch during one of their pit stops on their way to Ohio.

"Understood," Harry said as he listened to the rest of the story.

From what Harry was able to tell, Four had been in the angsty teenager phase of just wanting to be normal. Harry understood that feeling. Yet he had already been through that phase himself for a brief period before moving on. Harry understood living the life of a soldier. And that was what he and the other Guarde children were going to have to become in order to defeat the Mogadorians and get back their planet. After thirty hours of driving Harry spotted a sign that said, "Welcome to Paradise, Ohio Population 5,243".

Paradise was nice. They passed by a gas station, a car wash, and a cemetery before the houses began. The homes were decorated with Halloween decorations. There is a circular turnabout in the middle of town with the statue of a man on horseback with a raised sword in the center. Henri drives the truck West out of town. Eventually the paved road gives way to a long gravel road. About a mile down a side road we find 17 Old Mill Road. Henri pulls the truck to a stop behind a black SUV.

"Must be the real estate agent," Henri muttered as they got out of the truck.

The house was a one-story structure that looks like it could use a little work. But otherwise it didn't look too bad. When Harry and Henri walked towards the house a well-dressed blond woman in a business suit with a skirt came out to greet them. She had a clipboard and folder.

"Mr. Smith?" Annie Hart inquired.

"That is me," Henri greeted the woman about his own age. "I am Annie Hart from Paradise Realty," Annie said. Annie chatted with Harry as they signed the paperwork.

"How old are you Harry?" Annie asked after learning his name. When he answered she said, "I have a daughter at Paradise High about your age."

Annie then proceeded to show them inside. Most of the furniture is covered both white furniture coverings. The house has two bedrooms, one bath, a kitchen, and the usual such as a living room. Harry took his bags to the smaller bedroom where a faded poster of a football player Bernie Kosar hung from the wall. According to the poster Kosar played for the Cleveland Browns. Annie Hart left soon after. But she made it a point to tell Harry to look for her daughter at school and that maybe they could be friends.

After Annie had left Henri said, "The internet won't be up and running until sometime tomorrow. But I can print all of your documents off if you would like to start school tomorrow."

"I can do that," Harry agreed.

"Then you had better get a good night of sleep," Henri said. "Alright. Goodnight Henri," Harry said.

"Goodnight Harry," Henri said, trying out the new name.

After closing his door, Harry tried using what little magic he could do without a wand. He gestured with his hand at a piece of paper, a rolled up ball of paper, in the corner of the room. It flew into his hand and he caught it. He then focused again and the paper was banished away from him. The summoning charm and banishing charm were all he could do without a wand and took noticeably more power. He felt a wave of tiredness wash over him.

"Just one more test," Harry thought.

Harry tried apparating across the room. It worked. But the wave of fatigue that hit him nearly

knocked him out. It was all he could do to get to the bed. And then he was out like a light.

Henri drove Harry the three miles to Paradise High the next morning.

"You know the drill. If your legacies start appearing call immediately," Henri said. "Of course," Harry replied.

Legacies were the special abilities that garde children developed around Harry's age. The people of the planet Lorien were either Garde or Cepan. The Garde were the defenders with what would be considered superpowers to the humans of Earth. The Cepan didn't have powers.

As Harry walked towards the school he quickly looked over all of the students milling around out front split into their cliques such as jocks, band geeks, the preps or brains, the stoners, and

more. Harry took note of a startlingly beautiful girl with long blonde hair, ivory skin, high cheekbones, and blue eyes. Everyone seems to know her and is friendly with her. She looks so much like Annie Hart that Harry takes her as Sarah Hart, Annie's daughter. She smiles and waves at Harry. He smiled back and waved at her. She starts walking over to him. She raises her camera and takes a few pictures.

"Don't be shy," Sarah says.

"I'm just protecting your lens," Harry joked. "My face might cause it to break."

Sarah laughs and says, "I doubt there is much chance of that if you smile." Harry grinned at her and Sarah added, "There. Not so hard."

"I'm Harry Smith," Harry said as he held out his hand. "Sarah Hart," Sarah said as she took his hand and shook it.

Sarah feels an electric sensation as she touches Harry's hand. It wasn't that she received a shock or anything. But touching his hand made her feel alive. There was something mysterious and alluring about him. His hand also felt really hot to the touch. At that moment a beagle came running up to Harry.

"Hey there boy," Harry greets the dirty looking beagle.

Sarah took a few more pictures. But the beagle obviously didn't like the camera because he would move out of view.

"Do you know that dog?" Sarah asks.

"I've never seen him before," Harry admitted.

"Well he sure likes you," Sarah said before a bell rings in the distance. "That's the five minute warning bell to get to class. I'll see you later."

"Sure. It was nice meeting you. See you later," Harry said.

A group of football players in letterman jackets brushed by Harry with the backpack of one hitting Harry's elbow. One of the lead football players is glaring at Harry.

"New guy," Sam said as he walked up to Harry's side. Sam was shorter than Harry and wearing a NASA t-shirt. "Let me save you a little trouble. That's Mark James. He is considered a big deal around here. He's the star of the football team and his dad is the town sheriff. He used to date Sarah before she quit cheerleading and dumped him. Mark hasn't gotten over it. The name is Sam. I gotta get to class."

"Thanks for the heads up," Harry said before Sam hurried off.

Harry went to the main office and got signed up for classes. As the Principal Mr. Harris was showing him to the astronomy classroom, Harry felt strange. He felt a little dizzy. His right leg shook. His stomach felt shaky.

"Could it be my legacies?" Harry asked himself.

It would look pretty bad if Harry flaked out his first day. He would have to try to tough it out

and see what happened.

After Harry was shown into Mrs. Burton's astronomy classroom by Mr. Harris, Mrs. Burton asked, "And what is your name?"

"Harry Smith," Harry answered.

"It's nice to meet you Harry Smith. Where are you from?" Mrs. Burton asked. "Sante Fe," Harry answers.

"Let's give Harry Smith a warm welcome class," Mrs. Burton says.

The class clapped. Harry headed back to an open table. Each long rectangular table sat three students. Mark James and Sarah Hart were the only two sitting at a particular table. Mark tried sticking his foot out at the last second to trip Harry. Harry saw the move and stepped aside while glaring at Mark.

"This little shit is asking to get his ass kicked," Harry thought.

Garde were faster and stronger than humans by a lot. Harry took a seat at a nearby table also only holding two people. He honestly didn't mind the thought of kicking Mark's ass. But he remembered Henri's warning not to stand out. Kicking the ass of the school quarterback the first day would definitely stand out. The class resumed. As the class progressed the symptoms Harry was feeling grew worse. Harry's palms were sweaty and his right palm began to glow very faintly. He buried his right hand in his pocket. He managed to get a text off to Henri with his left hand asking Henri to come. It was simply that one word. The dizziness was growing worse. Class couldn't end fast enough. As soon as the bell rang, Harry was up and heading out the door.

"Where are you running off to tough guy. Afraid to face me?" Mark James demanded as he came up behind Harry and tried pushing Harry in the back.

Despite the dizziness Harry spun and side-stepped the rush. Mark caught himself before he fell. He did stumble.

"Listen you jealous little shit, I want nothing to do with you. Back the hell off," Harry hissed.

Mark scowls at Harry and tries rushing him again. This time Harry moves to the side and as Mark is passing delivers a knee with the minimum amount of force possible to Mark's right side. The air is driven from Mark's lungs as he sprawls on the ground. Without a backwards glance Harry turns and leaves. As soon as he is out of sight Harry runs down a hallway being careful to stay just below human norms of speed. He didn't see any security cameras. But he wasn't taking any chances. Harry found an empty room, slipped inside, and focused on his bedroom at the new house.

Then Harry stopped himself. He had been about to try to apparate. While that was still an option, he should try something else first. Harry reached down and grasped his pants pocket. He focused with all his concentration on a particular spell. He could perform this with a wand without issue. Performing it without a wand was something he had never tried.

"Portus," Harry whispered.

Harry hadn't even bothered with an activation delay or keyword. He vanished from the room he was in and arrived moments later on his bed, unconscious. The effort of the magic had knocked him out.

When Harry was unconscious he dreamed. There were different scenes. The first scene was of Hermione. He saw her laying in bed in her parents' house crying curled up with Crookshanks. Hedwig was perched on the headboard of the bed trying to comfort Hermione. Hermione looked up when Harry started watching her. She wiped her tear stained eyes and looked around.

"Harry?" Hermione said questioningly.

"I'm here," Harry said. "Hermione I'm here."

She didn't appear to hear him. She began to cry again. The scene dissolved. Harry's personality was a mixture of that of Four's and his own. But he was more Harry Potter than Number Four. Still, the smaller part of him that was Four was helping a little bit with the separation from Hermione. He still loved Hermione very much and it still hurt. It just didn't hurt as badly as it should if he was purely Harry Potter. The next scene he saw was Sarah Hart at a beech wearing a bikini. She was gorgeous. It was obvious Sarah kept herself in shape. It didn't look like she worked out to build muscle. Yet she obviously stayed in shape. This scene was short before it dissolved. Sarah meanwhile was experiencing a much longer dream about Harry in nothing but a pair of swim trunks.

While Sarah continued to experience a dream about him, Harry found himself in another vision. Next to him stood a gorgeous blonde about his age. She easily rivaled Hermione and Sarah in terms of beauty. She was looking him over appraisingly at the same time he was inspecting her. She was tall and lean. She didn't look like she had an ounce of extra fat on her. Her blond hair was long and straight. Her face was perfectly symmetrical. She looked like she had a killer smile. Her skin was smooth and somewhat similar in shape to Sarah's. Where Sarah was all kindness this girl looked like she had learned to take care of herself.

"Hi," Harry tried to say. No sound came out. "Hello," She mouthed.

Again no sound came out. Harry held up four fingers and her eyes widened. She held up six fingers. They grinned at one another. They turned back to the scene they found themselves in when sound began to show in the dream. They watched as they played at Four's house when the two of them were children on Lorien. Six and Harry both were surprised when the scene included their parents. Six's Loric name was Maren Elizabeth. Her parents were Arun and Lyn. Harry didn't know Four's Loric name. Four's parents were Liren and Lara. Their parents had been friends.

"Those two are so cute together," Lara said.

"I agree," Lyn added with a grin that matched Lara's. "I definitely think they will end up together."

The group was silent for a time as they watched their children play.

"What do you think about the plan the Elders have put together?" Liren asked.

"I'm overjoyed there is a plan to protect our children should the worst happen," Arun said. "But I have to question what type of life it will be."

"I agree," Lara added. "They will be hunted."

"And this charm will keep them separated until they are ready," Lyn added.

"Let's not forget that they will likely be responsible for repopulating our people," Arun pointed out.

"Their relationships will have to be a little more open than most," Lara admitted. "Think about it. The girls will only be able to have so many children. But the boys would be able to have many more offspring with the human women. They would be half Loric. Yet half Loric still means our species survives and they would breed true with our gifts."

"That will be hard on their relationships," Liren mused. "But it is something they will have to live with."

"It's the best plan we have considering nothing might happen at all and this just might be worrying over nothing," Arun said.

"You make a good point," Liren agreed.

The scene with the family faded into the background. Harry and Six tried digesting this information. She met his gaze as they looked away from their families. She looked very thoughtful. He opened his mouth and formed the word Ohio when the scene faded. When she woke up the next morning Six thought about all she had learned. In particular she thought about Four and asked herself if she could share with another woman or women. She also thought about what the last word Four had mouthed to her. She was pretty sure it had been a location. The more she thought about it the more she thought he had said Ohio. That helped narrow things down greatly. But it would still be a hard search. At the very least she could go to that state and if anything drew her attention she would be able to get there fast. Unfortunately anything that drew her attention would also alert the Mogs. She got up and prepared for her day thinking about Four. He was very cute. Something about him just attracted her.

When Harry awoke he remembered everything. He found Henri sitting next to his bed. "Good. You are awake," Henri said. "How did you get home? Were you seen?"

"My legacy was not seen," Harry answered as he stared at his still faintly glowing hands. "But I need you to teach me how to hack. Annie Hart's daughter Sarah was very friendly and likes to take pictures. My guess is she posts those pictures somewhere. We need to hack in and delete the pictures."

"That shouldn't be a problem. Did anything else happen?" Henri asked.

"There was a slight disagreement with Sarah's ex-boyfriend Mark James. I handled it with minimal violence and nothing that was above human strength. If anyone asks I will just tell them I am trained in Martial Arts. He saw Sarah being friendly to me and took offense to that," Harry explained.

Henri looked like he was contemplating moving again.

"Thank you for being honest with me. It doesn't sound like anything will draw too much attention to us as long as I get to those pictures," Henri said. "It has been a shit long wait. But your first legacy is finally here," He declared with a grin.

Harry's grin matched Henri's smile.

"That it has. So, what is this legacy called and what does it do?" Harry asked.

"It is called Lumen," Henri said as he pulled a lighter out of his pocket. "Your grandfather Lagra had the same gift. In time you will be able to control the lights." The grandparents were the ones who raised children while the parents honed their legacies. Garde saw little of their parents until the age of twenty-five when they had their own children. "Give me your hand and trust me."

Henri uses the lighter and holds the flame to Harry's fingertip. He felt nothing. Henri ran the flame over all of his hand and then began towards the wrist.

"Fire resistance. Nice," Harry said.

"Yes. Your hands come naturally. The rest of your body will have to be trained. You'll resist fire and heat," Henri explained. "The lights will turn off after a good night of sleep when your mind forgets they are on. But you will have to be careful not to get emotionally imbalanced or they will turn on again."

"Alright," Harry said while neglecting to point out he was a teenage male. Hormones were inevitable. He would use his occlumency to try to keep calm. "You look like you could use some sleep."

"I could," Henri admitted. "But I need to take care of those pictures."

"Sarah is probably just getting home from school. It might take her a while to transfer them to her computer," Harry pointed out.

"I will at least track down her home network and see if I can slip the monitoring software on her computer," Henri said. "Then I will get some rest. I'll set it to alert me when she gets on her computer."

Harry nodded and Henri left. Harry spent the rest of the afternoon and evening cleaning the house and thinking. He really hadn't had a chance to do much of that other than the drive here. Was he doing enough to try to get back home? He wasn't even sure where to begin or if it was possible. He was pretty sure that he was in another universe. The veil must actually transport a person to another universe. Yet it seems to have destroyed his body. This certainly wasn't his original body. His magic had come with him and seemed to be different from the abilities of these Loric yet somewhat similar. Even with his magic at full power and Hermione at her most brilliant he wasn't sure he could travel between universes without using the veil. Perhaps learning Loric science would help him. In any case if the possibility existed he might see Hermione again then he would take it. At the same time he thought upon what he had seen in the vision of Lorien with Six. He was now one of the last members of a nearly extinct species.

"Do I owe this race anything? Do I owe them fathering many children?" Harry asked.

The part of him that was Four said that he did and wanted to continue his species. Part of Harry was Loric now. It was through Four that he had a second chance at life. Harry decided to play it by ear and see where things developed fathering more children. While he worked, Harry practiced his magic. He found that he grew a little less tired if he spread the magic practice out over a period of time. He would practice banishing and summoning. He couldn't banish and summon heavy objects. Yet doing so even with small objects tired him less and less. He hoped with time and practice he would be able to windlessly banish and summon heavier objects without getting tired. He ate a light meal for dinner. It looked like Henri would sleep through

the night. Just before bed he apparated as many times as he could in quick succession without feeling like he would splinch himself.

"Five times," Harry told himself as a benchmark before he collapsed onto the bed.

Harry was out like a light from all that he had done that day. He dreamt of women, three girls in

particular.

"Good morning," Harry greeted as he sat down at the table across from Henri and poured himself a bowl of cereal. "Do you feel better after some sleep?"

"Quite a bit better. Thank you for cleaning the house," Henri replied. "Of course," Harry agreed. "What is on your agenda today?"

"I am thinking about doing a transfer. We're running low on money. But I don't want to stray too far," Henri said with some concern.

Each of the Cepan had been given a bag filled with diamonds, rubies, and emeralds to sell when they got to Earth. Henri had done so and put the money in an overseas account. There was enough funds in there for ten lifetimes.

"I will be fine," Harry assured. "Just keep your phone on you. Perhaps you should share the details of the bank account with me."

"I suppose that would be a good idea," Henri agreed before going into details about how to access the account.

Henri had already granted Four access. Harry got ready for school and Henri took him.

"I'll be right here at the end of the day," Henri said as Harry prepared to get out at the school. "Have a good day," Harry said.

"You too," Henri replied.

Harry watched Henri pull off. Harry made his way to his locker to store some of his belongings. The halls are filled with students. There are quite a few stares and whispers directed Harry's way. He doesn't care. He noticed Mark James talking to a group of ten or so friends and ignores the jock. Harry takes note of Sarah sitting on a windowsill reading. She's wearing a gray sweater and skirt today which makes her look particularly radiant.

Harry gets through his first period class without incident. During his second period class it is astronomy again. This time he sits in the back of the class. The guy who had warned him about

Mark the previous day sits down with him and pulls out a notebook with drawings of stars and constellations on it.

"Harry Smith," Harry said as he held out his hand. "Sam Goode," Sam said as he shook the offered hand.

The two really couldn't say anymore because Mrs. Burton began the lecture. The lecture made Harry think on the facts that Henri had taught him about this universe. Lorien was one of eighteen life-sustaining planets in the Milky Way galaxy. Earth and Mogadore were two other such planets. Lorien was an old planet, hundreds of times older than Earth. Lorien had gone through the same problems as Earth at one point, pollution, overpopulation, global warming, food shortages. About twenty-five thousands years previously Lorien had begun to die. This was before the Loric had learned to travel through interstellar space. The Loric had changed their way of life.

They did away with everything harmful including poisons, guns, bombs, harmful chemicals, pollutants. This caused the damage to reverse itself over time. Thanks to evolution over thousands of years the Garde developed powers to help protect the planet. Some considered it Lorien's reward for their foresight and respect. Harry found it really strange that there were only eighteen life-sustaining planets in this galaxy. But maybe that was a quirk of this universe. It was likely different from his home universe.

It was at lunch that Harry actually got a chance to talk to Sam. Sam sat at Harry's table at lunch. "So, the rumor is you are fighting Mark after school," Sam said.

"That's news to me," Harry mused. "But if that idiot attacks me I'm certainly going to defend myself."

"He might bring friends," Sam pointed out.

"Bullies usually do," Harry said.

Just then Harry saw a large meatball heading their way straight for Sam. Harry leaned forward and snatched the meatball out of the air catching it. His hand got messy. It was a small price to pay for Sam not getting hit in the back of the head with a meatball.

"Thanks," Sam said after he turned and realized what had happened. "No problem," Harry said.

Another meatball flies from the table of seven football players where Mark James is sitting. Harry catches this one as well. Harry stares at them with eyes promising pain. Suddenly the jocks didn't feel so confident. They were getting stared at by a man in a teen's body who had

killed many Death Eaters. Before anything else could happen the lunch room attendant stepped in.

"You seven to the principle's office," Mr. Johnson said as he pointed to the seven football players.

Mr. Johnson left with the football players. Harry went to the restroom and washed his hands.

He was pleased to note that there was no glow from his hands during this situation. The occlumency seemed to be helping. Luckily occlumency was an entirely internal magic. It didn't consume much magic from him.

"They're probably just going to get a slap on the wrist if anything," Sam said when Harry returned.

"Probably. I'll just be happy if they get a detention," Harry said. "I mean all that happened to us was some messy hands. It could have been a lot worse. Those idiots will get what is coming to them soon enough."

Throughout the rest of lunch there were quite a few whispers directed towards Harry. He thought it was rather like being back at Hogwarts. He ignored it and went to home economics next. Just before the bell rang Sarah entered the classroom and sat next to him.

"Hi," Sarah greeted.

Sarah wasn't sure what to think about Harry. Yet she knew she couldn't get him off of her mind, especially after some rather erotic dreams she had had about him the night before.

"Hello," Harry returned with a smile.

"I'm sorry Mark is being a jerk to you," Sarah said.

"It's not your fault. There are guys like him in every school," Harry replied with a shrug. Sarah took note of the fact that he had apparently been to a lot of schools.

"You aren't really going to fight him are you?" Sarah asked.

"I have no desire to fight him. But if I'm attacked I will certainly defend myself," Harry said. "Fair enough. If he can't beat you by himself he'll have his buddies help," Sarah warned. "That's usually how bullies operate. I appreciate the heads up though," Harry said.

"Of course. He and I are not together," Sarah said while looking him in the eye, making that very clear.

"That's good to know," Harry said.

The teacher Mrs. Benshoff gave ten minutes of instruction on making pancakes. Harry and Sarah were paired together. They went into another part of the classroom where there were ten kitchen units. Sarah put on an apron.

"Will you tie this for me?" Sarah asked. "Sure," Harry agreed.

The feeling of the contours of her back against his fingers is very nice. He's very slow tying her apron and she doesn't seem to mind. She returns the favor. They begin preparing the pancakes and she makes it a point to brush up against him quite often.

"How do you like Ohio so far?" Sarah asked.

"The countryside is beautiful as are other features," Harry said leadingly while glancing at her which caused her to smile. "Ask me again after I've gotten through winter here."

"Yes. They can be quite unpredictable," Sarah admitted.

The two continued to chat until the pancakes were done. Sarah used one plate for all of them and put a large amount of maple syrup on top. She handed him a fork and he took a bite. Then she took a bite with the same fork. They alternated until the pancakes were finished. They cleaned the kitchen and then left the room together.

"You know you're not so bad for a sophomore," Sarah says as she nudges him with her hip. "You're not so bad for a junior," Harry replied with a grin.

They walked until they came to his locker.

"I'll see you tomorrow," Sarah said.

"I'll see you tomorrow and hope you have a good rest of your day," Harry said. "You too," Sarah said with a smile.

Sarah had really nice smiles. After his ninth period class, Harry walked out the front entrance of the school. He took note of a bunch of students including Mark James and his friends. He also took note that Sarah was talking to a teacher. She smiled and waved at him. Harry waved back and gave her a smile. It would seem Sarah had lured a teacher out there possibly to avoid a fight. No fight was going to be happening with a teacher present. Harry just walked on by to the truck where Henri was waiting close to the bus parking area.

"Hello Henri. How was your day?" Harry asked as he climbed into the truck.

"Good. An hour and a half drive to Columbus got me to a larger bank," Henri said. "So are you going to tell me about this girl that has you so happy?"

"Her name is Sarah," Harry admitted without denying it. "She is Annie Hart's daughter. We share two classes. She is a junior."

"The same Sarah who took the pictures of you," Henri noted. "I've been expecting this for a long time. Is she pretty?"

"Gorgeous," Harry admitted. "And she is smart."

Harry recalled the lessons on Lorien Henri had given about Loric relationships. Henri had said that Loric mated for life once they were married at about twenty-five. Based on the vision he had had of his Loric parents, Harry knew that a single mating wasn't in the cards for him and any of the Garde left on Earth.

"Just keep in mind that we might have to leave at a moment's notice," Henri warned.

Henri was saying it because if Harry got too attached it would be harder to get him to leave. Harry simply nodded and didn't say anything in response. When they got home the Loric chest was sitting on the table.

"I think it is time you begun learning your inheritance," Henri said. "Each Garde is given a chest at birth to be used by their Keeper in their training." Keeper was another word for Cepan. "We both have to open it together. This will only work after your first legacy appears. We place our hands on both sides of the lock."

Henri placed a hand on one side of the lock and Harry placed his hand on the other side of the lock. It was warm to the touch. After a few seconds the lock snapped open.

"Neat," Harry said. "Another Loric charm?"

"Yes. I don't see any Mogs getting through this. If I die you can open it on your own," Henri said. "Please go sit on the couch. There are things in here you aren't ready to see."

"If you die before you can explain them then those things might be something I have no ability to understand," Harry pointed out.

"For now trust me. I will think on what you said," Henri replied. Harry nodded and sat on the couch. Henri removed a six inch long by two inch thick object from the chest which looked like a rock. It is smooth, clear on the outside, and cloudy on the inside. Henri comes over to the couch and holds the object out to Harry. "Take this. It is a Loric crystal."

Harry accepts the crystal and experiences both palms lighting up even more brightly than the day

before. The mass inside the crystal is swirling and the crystal itself is heating up. Harry also feels the pendant around his neck heating up.

"So what is happening?" Harry asked.

"The crystal is tied to your legacy. If you had been developing a legacy other than Lumen then the crystal would have lit up. Instead, with Lumen your hands light up."

Henri had asked Harry to lay on top of the coffee table with his hands hanging over the sides and his eyes closed. Henri had brought out a propane tank with a hose attached to it. The hose had a splitter with two shorter hoses. Each short hose had a small regulator piece at the end which put out a steady flame when lit like a small flame thrower.

"I'm ready," Harry said.

"Just keep your eyes closed. There may be a slight burning in your arms when I drag the crystal up it," Henri warned.

Harry simply nodded. He feels the slight burn as the crystal is pushed against the back of his hand. He was instructed to let his mind go where it needed to go. That was pretty vague. Harry's mind was suddenly transported elsewhere. In his mind he saw himself floating over a vast jungle. The planet was orbiting a star almost double the size of Earth's star. This is Lorien. It is less than a tenth the size of Earth. He sees many animals in the jungle below drinking from the rivers that cut through the land. In the distance a fireworks display begins.

"I can feel their desperation," A voice says. "They know the location of one of the others. They won't touch her because the charm still holds. They had hoped to kill all of us before your legacies developed. We must stay calm. The first three panicked and are dead as a result. When you are fully developed we will hit back and get our revenge. That is when the war will truly begin."

Harry saw the bombs falling on Lorien's surface. Thousands of spacecrafts drop from the sky to land on Lorien bombing everything in sight. Screams drift on the wind. Mogadorian soldiers pour out. The Mogs are taller than Loric and humans. Their eyes have no pupils with irises that are deep magenta or black. Dark heavy circles surround their eyes. Their complexion is an almost bruised pallor. They have pointed teeth between lips that never quite close. The Mogs brought beasts with razor teeth and roars. Some of them are as big as houses.

"We got careless, Harry," Henri said. Harry realizes the voice he had been hearing was Henri's. "That is how our people were defeated so easily." Harry watched as just as many Mogadorians were killed as Loric in the battle. But the Mogadorians far outnumbered the Loric. And the beasts killed dozens each. Harry watched as the Garde with many different powers led the fight. Some Garde had flight powers, some ran so fast they blurred, some disappear, some shoot lasers from their hands, some are surrounded by flame, some control the weather including storms. "The Mogadorians chose the moment when our elders were gone, when we were at our most vulnerable. Our greatest Elder, their leader Pittacus Lore, had assembled the Elders before the

attack. Nobody knows where they went or if they were even still alive. Perhaps the Mogs took our elders out first. On the day the Elders assembled there was a shimmering column of white light that shot into the sky and lasted the entire day. We should have seen this as a sign that something was wrong. But we didn't." Harry saw a ship shoot off into the sky with a blue stream behind it. This is the ship Harry and Henri took to Earth.

Harry watched the carnage of the battle for a while longer. Then he was brought back to his body on Earth by a scratching at the door. Harry looked up to see his hands and wrist submerged in flame. He didn't even feel it.

"What is at the door?" Harry asked. "I will look," Henri said.

Henri drew what looked like a handgun from a holster beneath his shirt. This was no Earth handgun. It was a Loric energy weapon. Very few Loric ever had energy weapons. But these had been stashed on the ship which had brought them to Earth.

"It sounds like a dog," Harry said after hearing a low wine coming from outside.

Harry drew the knife Henri had given him for his fifth birthday from a sheath around his ankle. The knife was made with Loric technology. It had a six inch blade, would be very difficult to break, and was sharp enough to go through just about anything. Harry had been practicing with his banishing charms. He was pretty sure he could banish it into a Mog with reasonable accuracy and then summon it back. He could only do this so many times before he became exhausted.

Henri opened the door with his gun at the ready. Harry prepared to use his knife. They were both surprised to find the same beagle Harry had run into before while with Sarah. The beagle trotted into the house and sat in front of Harry.

"I take it you know this dog," Henri said as he closed the door.

"I ran into him once before," Harry said as he knelt down and pet the creature. Something felt off about the creature. But Harry couldn't put his finger on it. He didn't sense it being a danger to him. "I saw visions of Lorien during the attack."

"I thought you might," Henri said. Harry sat on the couch and felt the dog hop up into his lap. It had an old looking tag with the name Bernie Kosar written on it in the shape of a football. "I've had the visions too. Mogadorians are very different from the Loric. They have some powers of their own yet not quite like ours. They are manipulative, secretive, and untrusting of almost everything. They thrive in densely populated cities. That is why we don't live in large cities. It is easy for them to blend in there. Around a century ago Mogadore started to die. It was similar to what happened to Lorien twenty-five thousand years ago. The Mogs didn't respond the way we did or understand it like the humans are beginning to understand it now. They ignored the death and flooded their oceans with waste and sewage to grow their cities and population. The

vegetation began to die followed by the herbivores and carnivores. So, they did something drastic."

"So, they attacked the closest life sustaining planet to Mogadore, Lorien, for our resources," Harry said.

"Yes," Henri said as he got up and retrieved a leftover chicken breast and prepared it for Bernie Kosar. The dog ate it hungrily. "I can tell there are a lot of Mogs on Earth. I can see them in my dreams but can't tell where they are. I don't think it is just the six of you drawing them here."

"You think they intend to attack Earth?" Harry asked. "Yes," Henri confirmed.

"They can't just keep attacking planet after planet. Eventually the other races will band together and destroy them," Harry pointed out.

"That's true. But the Mogs are not a far-sighted people," Henri said. "My suspicion is that Lorien's resources simply patched up Mogadore for a time. Lorien was too small compared to Mogadore. But Earth is many times larger than even Mogadore. I believe they intend to kill all the humans and make Earth their new home."

"The humans won't make it easy. But the technological gap will make the Mogadorian's victory inevitable unless we help," Harry said.

"I agree," Henri said with a nod. "I think we have a new pet," He adds as he looks at Bernie Kosar. "You should clean him up and then get some rest."

"Will do," Harry said as he rose.

He gave Bernie Kosar a bath and then got settled into bed. His mind was filled with thoughts of how to handle the Mogadorians. He became convinced that knowing Loric science and engineering would help greatly. He would ask Henri to start giving him lessons the next day. That settled, he fell into a sleep filled with erotic dreams of Hermione, Sarah, and Six. Unknown to him was that the three ladies were experiencing the same shared dreams.
