Chapter 60 - Chapter 60: Brother and Sister Reunion

"Humans, get out of our homes!"

"Yes, leave our homeland at once!"

The angry shouts rang through the air outside the military barracks. More than two thousand half-orcs had gathered together, driven by outrage and fear. At the front of the crowd stood Watt, gripping an old long sword with both hands. His bright silver eyes burned with fury as he roared at the gates of the human encampment.

Inside the barracks, rows of disciplined soldiers stood watch. Many of them held their 98K rifles, bayonets fixed, barrels glinting coldly in the sun. Their faces were hidden beneath steel helmets and expressionless iron masks, making them appear as unfeeling as statues carved from ice. Though curiosity flickered in their eyes at the sight of the ragged gathering outside, vigilance never left them.

The half-orcs, despite their initial bravado, felt their courage falter the moment they arrived before the heavily fortified human camp. Half-orcs were known to be gentle by nature, preferring peace and farming over bloodshed. Now, standing in the presence of this disciplined human army, the fire of their anger was dimmed by the icy weight of fear.

They had followed Watt here in a rush of emotion, but when confronted by the gleaming rifles and the unwavering line of soldiers, many instinctively shrank back.

The bayonets gleamed in the sunlight like the fangs of wolves, each shining tip promising death. The contrast between the human army's elite bearing and their own frail, malnourished frames was too stark. These half-orcs were mostly old, weak, sick, and weary. Could they possibly stand against soldiers trained to kill?

Many hearts retreated even as their bodies remained.

"Who are you people?"

A sharp voice cut through the tense silence. A human officer stepped forward, flanked by several guards and field commanders. He was strikingly handsome, his posture upright, his aura sharp as a blade. He looked every inch a man of authority, his presence commanding respect without effort.

This was Gu Yuan.

Watt clenched his sword tighter, glaring at the human officer. His voice thundered:

"You humans have slaughtered and plundered our people without mercy! For years, we have endured your cruelty. Today, we will not allow you to invade our homeland again!"

Gu Yuan raised an eyebrow, his face unreadable beneath the shadow of his wide-brimmed officer's hat. His gaze swept across the half-orc crowd like a hawk surveying prey. The cold sharpness of his eyes made Watt unconsciously step back, as though he were standing before a predator.

A familiar chill rose in Watt's chest. He remembered the feeling of standing before the Emperor of the Orc Empire, the sheer oppression of overwhelming authority. Astonishingly, this young human—no more than a youth in appearance—carried an aura just as suffocating. His presence pressed down on them like the weight of a mountain.

Watt's heart raced. His throat felt dry, as though he stood not as a warrior but as a criminal awaiting judgment. His people shifted nervously behind him, unsure whether to hold their ground or scatter.

At last, Gu Yuan raised a hand and gestured.

The half-orcs instantly tensed, many gripping their hoes, pitchforks, and makeshift weapons tighter. But instead of ordering an attack, the soldiers around Gu Yuan parted. From within their ranks, a small figure walked forward.

She was a petite half-orc girl, her silver eyes bright and clear, her frame wrapped in a finely tailored women's military uniform. A polished cap rested upon her head, and her movements carried both elegance and confidence.

The half-orcs gasped.

Watt's eyes widened in disbelief. His entire body trembled.

"…Lina?"

The girl smiled, her voice ringing out with joy as she called:

"Big brother!"

The world seemed to freeze. Watt's grip on his sword faltered as tears welled in his eyes. Two years. Two endless years of fear and despair, believing his sister lost forever after she was captured by humans. And now—here she was, standing before him alive, radiant, transformed.

"Lina! My sister!" Watt dropped his sword and stumbled forward, his voice breaking. "How… how are you here? Come to your brother quickly!"

Tears streaked his cheeks as he reached out to her.

The crowd of half-orcs erupted in murmurs.

"That's Lena! She was captured two years ago!"

"Why is she dressed like a human soldier?"

"Is she with them now? Could she… be a spy?"

"No, impossible! She would never betray us!"

"People change… what if—"

Suspicion and doubt spread like wildfire among the half-orcs.

Gu Yuan's brows furrowed. His voice boomed like thunder:

"Silence!"

The roar froze the crowd in place. Fear silenced every whisper. No one dared meet his eyes.

Only Watt and Lina remained, locked in their reunion.

Watt dropped to his knees, wrapping his arms around his sister as though afraid she would vanish again. His tears soaked into her uniform.

"Lina, my sister… do you know how much I have worried for you these past two years?" His voice cracked with emotion.

Lina's eyes softened. She hugged him back tightly, smiling through her own tears.

"Big brother, don't worry anymore. I am safe now. I live in the Kingdom of Ross, under the care of His Majesty. He has treated me better than anyone ever has before."

Her words brought warmth to her, but Watt's heart lurched. His sharp half-orc senses picked up something subtle, a scent that only kin could recognize. His face stiffened.

"Lina…" His voice dropped, trembling. "You… you are no longer untouched, are you?"

Lina froze. Her face flushed red instantly. She cast a quick, embarrassed glance at Gu Yuan standing behind her. Then, with a tiny nod, she confirmed it.

Watt's heart twisted, but he understood. Half-orcs had a keen instinct, able to distinguish purity from change. His sister's bashful expression and scent left no doubt.

She had given herself to the human king.

He closed his eyes, inhaling deeply before speaking, his voice hoarse yet steady:

"Then tell me honestly, Lina. Does he treat you well? Do you… truly like him?"

Lina's face turned crimson. She lowered her head shyly, but then nodded. "Yes… Big brother, he is kind to me."

The crowd behind them stirred again. But before more suspicion could rise, Lina straightened her back, her delicate hands trembling as she clenched her fists.

She stepped forward, facing her people. The sight of her—dressed in a spotless officer's uniform, standing with confidence—was a sharp contrast to the ragged, frightened half-orcs behind Watt.

"Everyone, listen to me!" she cried out, her cheeks flushed, her silver eyes burning with determination.

"Standing before you is His Majesty Gu Yuan, King of the Kingdom of Ross. He is not like the humans of the Orc Empire's borders who slaughter and enslave us. His Majesty is my master, and he is a good man. Please, I beg you to believe me!"

She took a deep breath, forcing her trembling voice louder.

"The Kingdom of Ross is not like the others! There, humans and orcs live together in harmony. There is no cruelty, no plundering—only fairness and happiness. I know how much you have suffered under the Empire's rule, how hard life has been… but you don't need to live like that anymore. His Majesty has come to bring justice and hope! Please, believe in me—and believe in him!"

Her words echoed across the clearing, earnest and filled with conviction.

The half-orcs looked at one another in confusion. They had come ready to fight to the death, clutching rusty hoes and farm tools. Yet this girl, one of their own, spoke with such certainty. And the human soldiers—unlike the raiders of the past—had not harmed them, had not raised a single blade against them.

Watt stared at his sister, torn between relief and shock.

Lina, his little sister, once a helpless captive, now stood as a bridge between two worlds.

And behind her, Gu Yuan watched silently, his sharp eyes glinting with both calculation and patience. He knew what he wanted. The half-orcs were gentle, hardworking, and numerous—more than two million scattered across the Orc Empire. If he could win their trust, they would enrich his kingdom, strengthening Ross not just with numbers, but with spirit.

This was more than just a reunion of siblings. It was the first step toward reshaping the destiny of an entire people.
