The day after Magnus and Zalyric exchanged their tense words, Ruth returned to her position as Rowan's personal attendant. She was once again attending to him and her main just was to help him bathe, brush his hair, and choose his clothing for the day.
But before stepping back into this role, she had been given a careful and serious briefing by Evan.
"Now that you're healed enough to resume your duties as His Highness Rowan's personal attendant," Evan began, his voice low and grave, "keep in mind to not ask questions. Whatever you see, whatever you hear, keep it to yourself. That is, if you want to keep breathing for a long time."
Ruth's heart skipped a beat, and she swallowed hard, realizing the weight behind Evan's words.
