Chapter 252 - Hulk: No one can change the past, absolutely not!

That was the car accident. Doctor Strange himself was fine; he didn't die, and his hands weren't crippled. But the one who paid the price wasn't him; it was Christine. Christine died in that car accident.

Everyone probably understood why Doctor Strange's obsession with Christine ran so deep later on, even though nothing seemed to have happened.

"No, no, no, no, Christine, wake up, Christine!" Stephen Strange held Christine helplessly, saying this.

Stephen Strange, watching from outside the scene, was stunned.

How could this be? In this car accident, it wasn't him who paid the price; it wasn't his hands, but Christine.

He couldn't accept this, and he couldn't accept this despairing future.

How could this be?

"I don't accept it, absolutely not!" Stephen Strange couldn't help but roar in a low voice.

Although they weren't a couple in this world, their relationship was very close, so he couldn't accept this.

If a price had to be paid, if a price absolutely had to be paid, then let his hands be crippled. He absolutely, positively could not accept Christine being taken away.

He seemed to understand a little now why his obsession in that timeline could run so deep.

But this video didn't change based on Stephen Strange's will, so even if he didn't want it to happen, it still did.

Soon, Christine's funeral appeared on the screen.

"In this world, Stephen Strange's hands are whole, but his heart wasn't spared. He was heartbroken, searching throughout the lands, attempting to find a way in the arcane arts to change the outcome!"

Along with the Observer's narration, the screen kept changing, and Stephen Strange began his journey to find magic, becoming a magician.

The only difference was that his hands were still whole at this point. He wanted to use magic to change everything, so he embarked on a journey to find magic.

Like other Doctor Stranges, this Stephen Strange also possessed amazing talent. This talent became even more apparent after he began learning magic, quickly making him one of the best.

"The Eye of Agamotto, born from a temporal nexus, discovered by Cagliostro, can be used to manipulate and alter timelines!"

Doctor Strange, Strange, read various ancient texts and soon discovered the existence of the Eye of Agamotto. Finally, he found the hope to reverse reality.

Like other Doctor Stranges, he also became the owner of the Eye of Agamotto and began practicing Time Magic.

Everyone watched as he used Time Magic to age an apple, from its prime to being completely devoured, revealing the mystery of Time Magic.

"Time travel!" Doctor Strange, Strange, finally knew what he needed to do to bring his girlfriend back.

Change the past.

Everyone watching the scene understood his plan. He intended to modify the past timeline and change the fact that his girlfriend would die in front of him.

Everyone knew this was a flawed idea, or else Lin Feng wouldn't have specifically recorded it in his diary.

"I just want to ask, can time really not be changed? For example, like in many Hollywood movies, going back to the past, changing the past, and then creating a brand new future?" Hawkeye Barton couldn't help but ask. "Logically, it makes sense, right? Especially with the existence of different timelines, doesn't that leave room for modifying time? Or is it just that we don't have the ability to travel through time yet, without something like a time machine?"

"Of course it's not possible, Clint!" Bruce Banner stepped forward to explain. "I don't know what physical laws other multiverses are based on, but at least in our universe, it's not feasible. Ever heard of the Grandfather Paradox?

It's like, if you go back in time and kill your grandfather, you wouldn't be born. If you're not born, then there wouldn't be the action of you going back in time to kill your grandfather.

It's the same with time travel. Everything that happened in the past led to you, and if you try to change that past, then your future becomes your past, and your past becomes an unknown future.

At most, when you modify the past, you'll create a completely different timeline from the original one, but it can't change what has already happened.

Everything that happened in the past, including the movement of every atom, contributed to the you of today. Changing any of it is undesirable!"

"Do you remember the Flash's video? Lin Feng joked about how many Flashes were there that night when his mother died? And when he tried to change the past, there were even Flashes from a further future coming out to stop him. This is because the timeline cannot be modified, especially certain major events, key nodes. If they are modified, it could lead to unpredictable futures. I don't know exactly what the consequences would be, but the most likely outcome is something similar to what Lin Feng said, the entire timeline being destroyed. This is even more evil than Thanos, the number of deaths could be millions or even billions more than those wiped out by Thanos!"

Bruce Banner tried to explain the principle clearly, but Hawkeye Barton was still confused. He only understood one thing: from a scientific perspective, changing the past is absolutely impossible, and it's not allowed by the laws of physics.

But what if it wasn't science?

What if it was magic?

Especially after learning about the TVA's existence, knowing they could appear at any point in the timeline, the sanctity of the timeline vanished in Hawkeye's mind.

There was definitely something he didn't know yet.

The others might not all truly believe Bruce Banner's explanation was correct. It should be that way scientifically, but this was clearly not a particularly scientific world.

There was another, magical world within it.

Especially for Diana, who grew up in the magical world, what was scientific wasn't that important; her existence as the daughter of a god was not very scientific in itself.

The group continued to watch with a heavy heart. Doctor Strange, who had used the Eye of Agamotto without authorization, was immediately discovered by Wong.

"What are you doing? Tampering with time will destroy the spacetime structure of the universe!" Wong stormed in, with the Sorcerer Supreme, Ancient One, beside him.

"Our duty is to protect reality, not threaten it!"

The Sorcerer Supreme, the Ancient One, spoke.

What happened afterward was similar to the story in their timeline. The Ancient One died at the hands of a traitor, and then the Dark Dimension lord, Dormammu, arrived. Ultimately, Doctor Strange stood up and stopped Dormammu.

"When danger came, the Ancient One was gone, and Stephen Strange took on the heavy responsibility!"

"This doctor became the Sorcerer Supreme!"

"Dormammu, I've come to bargain!"

Doctor Strange said that famous line countless times.

"Despite his accomplishments, Stephen Strange still couldn't let go of the past!"

And everyone seemed to watch again how Doctor Strange fought against the Dark Dimension lord, Dormammu.

He logically led everyone to defeat Dormammu, and then, amidst the anticipation of all, became the Sorcerer Supreme. However, Christine's death remained a constant source of regret for him.

Unlike the sacred timeline where Christine hadn't died and was alive and well, so Doctor Strange's obsession wasn't as deep, in this timeline, Christine was already dead. So, every smile and every memory of her intensified his obsession.

For Doctor Strange, the past was something he couldn't let go of; his girlfriend was the softest spot in his heart, something he could never reach.

Countless times, his girlfriend's voice and appearance appeared in his mind.

Finally, Doctor Strange decided to take action. He ignored his friend Wong's warnings and prepared to save his girlfriend. He used the Eye of Agamotto, cast a spell, and reversed time, returning to that day.

When he saw his girlfriend appear before him, he even became nervous, like a young boy.

"Anything you want, Christine, I'll give you the whole world!"

At this moment, Doctor Strange was like a complete love-struck fool; anything his girlfriend wanted, he would give.

He ignored all the warnings he'd received, from his teacher and his closest friend.

He was determined to change this future; he couldn't accept his girlfriend leaving him.

When faced with the same situation, he didn't try to overtake the other car, but the accident still happened. He was rear-ended again. Once more, he survived, but Christine died.

Seeing this, Doctor Strange began to scream hysterically, "No, no, no! Not again! Christine!"

He couldn't accept it. He'd paid such a huge price to come back to the present from the future, to change this damned outcome, and yet he couldn't.

Overwhelmed by his grief, he cast Time Magic again. He wanted to start over.

Everyone could almost see the scene of Doctor Strange's descent into darkness as his obsession deepened.
