Tony Stark understood a lot of things—he wasn't ignorant—but controlling the fire of rage in his heart was almost impossible.
Especially if the Winter Soldier, Bucky, were standing right in front of him now, he would attack instantly.
Controlling one's emotions sounds simple, but in reality, it's extremely difficult.
And for someone like Tony Stark, a lifelong playboy who had even caused chaos during congressional hearings and never paid much mind to the politicians, learning to control his temper was never exactly a compulsory course.
The thought processes of the rich second generation and the first generation often diverge greatly.
Yet now, seeing Bucky, the Winter Soldier, awakened and used as a tool, Tony's rage subsided a little. Some rationality returned.
But soon, his anger flared up again—but this time, it wasn't aimed entirely at Bucky.
The screen showed a car Tony Stark knew very well traveling down a highway.
It was his parents' car.
Bucky had been waiting, and he easily caused a car accident.
Then, he slowly got out, taking a silver box from the trunk. Inside the box lay five packs of serum, quietly resting.
The scene shifted again, now from a surveillance camera's perspective.
Howard Stark crawled out of the car, pleading, "Please… save my wife… I beg you… help!"
Bucky coldly grabbed his head. Howard Stark finally recognized him, whispering, "Sergeant Barnes?"
Tony's mother's voice cried out from the side of the car. Everyone watching saw Bucky kill Howard Stark with his bare hands, then drag him back into the car to die slowly.
Even Tony's mother was strangled to death.
Finally, Bucky shot the camera, shattering it completely.
Witnessing this scene, whether on the screen or in real life, Tony Stark exploded with rage.
Especially Tony outside the video. He had known that Bucky had killed his parents, but he had assumed it was just a simple car accident. He never expected that when the accident failed to kill them, Bucky would get out of the car and finish them off—punching his father to death, even after his father recognized him, and strangling his mother.
Even though it was at the Hydra officer's command, the scene was undeniably—bloody, brutal, and horrifying.
Seeing Howard and Maria Stark's tragic end, everyone watching the video outside the screen felt a pang of sympathy. No wonder Colonel Zemo claimed to have lost everyone, and no wonder Captain Rogers, too, would know the pain of losing everything.
Seeing one's own parents die firsthand, any shred of conscience would ignite an uncontrollable fury in Tony.
No matter how much Tony might have disliked his father outwardly, it was mostly just lip service. Even if he didn't like his father, he never spoke ill of his mother.
At this point, the anger in his heart finally erupted completely.
He lunged at the Winter Soldier, Bucky, but was immediately restrained by Captain Rogers.
"Tony, Tony."
Tony was stunned, disbelieving, and disappointed as he looked at Rogers. He had seen the video—seen this man kill his parents, not just by causing a car accident, but by pounding his father to death, even after recognition, and strangling his mother.
It was a hatred beyond measure, an unbearable, soul-wrenching fury.
And now Rogers stood in his way.
"Do you realize—?"
Tony suddenly turned to Rogers, questioning him. Pain tore through his heart—not just from witnessing his parents' deaths, but from the betrayal he had endured during the previous Avengers' civil conflict, seeing friends paralyzed, allies turn against him.
And now, having come to assist Rogers, Rogers blocked him.
Another betrayal.
Though he lacked concrete proof, Tony already suspected.
He had considered Rogers a true friend, someone for whom he would risk wanted status. And yet now, Rogers blocked him for the sake of the man who killed his parents. Perhaps he even concealed the truth of his parents' deaths. Was this how a friend should act?
Heartbreaking. Utterly heartbreaking.
"I didn't know it was him!" Rogers admitted indirectly. His bond with Bucky ran deep—they had come from seventy years ago, across eras, and were some of the few people who could truly understand each other in this age.
Yet Tony was also Rogers' close friend in this new era. They had fought together multiple times, even against aliens. Their bond was equally profound.
Now Rogers seemed torn in two, agonized.
At this moment, Tony realized Rogers wasn't as impartial as he had imagined—he was, at least a little, biased toward Bucky.
Yet Rogers wasn't lying. At the time, he truly didn't know that Bucky killed Tony's parents. He also didn't believe it was Bucky's fault; Bucky had been brainwashed, a weapon in Hydra's hands.
But hearing Rogers' words and seeing his hesitations, Tony's rage reached its peak. "Don't lie to me, Rogers! You knew, didn't you?"
"Yes!" Rogers had no choice but to admit it.
Hearing the confirmation, Tony was consumed by bitter anger and heartbreak. How could this be?
Rogers had chosen the killer over him. There was no doubt about it.
Tony struck Rogers to the ground instantly.
Then he turned on Bucky, fighting him in a whirlwind of fury.
Colonel Zemo, having orchestrated everything, watched the Avengers implode from within. Satisfied, he left.
His revenge was complete.
The Avengers had been too strong, suffocatingly so. No matter what Zemo had tried, he could never have defeated them outright.
But over the past year, he had gathered enough information to devise a new plan.
Alone, he could never take revenge. Even with the Winter Soldiers, he couldn't overpower these three.
These heroes had defeated powerful aliens; what chance did five Winter Soldiers have? Ordinary Winter Soldiers would be powerless.
Yet he had discovered a way to completely destroy the Avengers. With his revenge finally achieved, he could now go to his wife and daughter.
He had lost everything; now, there was nothing left to lose.
The three clashed, turning the sturdy chamber into a ruin.
"He won't stop. Get out of here!" Rogers shouted to Bucky.
Bucky tried to flee, but Tony wouldn't allow it, intercepting him mid-way.
The three collided again in a ferocious battle.
"Tony, it's not him! Hydra controls him!" Rogers shouted. "It's not him!"
But Tony, blinded by hatred, would not listen.
"Get out of my way!" he roared.
The battle raged with incredible ferocity. Each displayed terrifying combat ability, and even Bucky's metal arm was shattered by Iron Man.
Tony's claim of superior firepower wasn't a joke.
Originally meant for Zemo, it was now turned against his own allies.
Especially the final scene, seeing shield clash with metal—it was staggering.
Those watching outside the screen fell silent. How could this fight stop now? It was impossible.
The seeds of division had been sown the moment Bucky killed Tony's parents.
This was an inevitable, open plot.
Who could persuade Tony? No one. No one could tell a son who witnessed his parents' deaths to hold back. Not even Rogers could speak it aloud.
He only thought the killer was Hydra; Bucky was merely a tool. That didn't absolve him entirely.
Even Wanda and Pietro, whose parents died due to Stark weapons, were at least indirect casualties—not killed by Tony himself.
So their grudges could be resolved.
But Tony and Bucky? Impossible.
Tony was furious, but he could not yet explode. Bucky and Rogers were not within reach. His body shook from anger—his rage so extreme it was visible.
This was Tony Stark's state: fury-induced shivering.
Even though he had anticipated this, even after arguing with Rogers earlier, even thinking he could accept it—seeing his parents' deaths before his eyes shattered him instantly.
