Chapter 177 - Shield-Iron Convergence, Winter Soldiers Slaughtered

Secretary of State Ross carried a hint of suspicion in his expression. He couldn't believe that those thirty seconds had been caused by a machine malfunction. He suspected—was it possible that Tony Stark had done something behind the scenes?

And Tony Stark was absolutely capable of such a thing.

It was just that Ross couldn't find any evidence, so all he could do was probe cautiously.

"No, he told me to go to hell!"

Tony Stark turned and replied with a single sentence.

"Then I'll head back to base. But you can call me anytime—I'll stay on standby. I like watching the phone light blink!"

Tony Stark said this mockingly, not realizing that his words would soon become prophetic.

Everyone suddenly remembered a scene from the previous diary video—Tony Stark directly hanging up on Secretary Ross. Indeed, his words had come true.

Everyone looked at Tony Stark, feeling a mix of admiration and sentiment. Even now, Tony still cared about Captain Rogers. It showed that, despite everything, he was a man of deep loyalty and strong sentiment.

But this was only the present moment. Their conflict wasn't merely a misunderstanding—it was a true, insoluble problem.

The Winter Soldier, Bucky, had killed Tony Stark's parents. That was a knot that could not be untied.

Unless Tony Stark himself chose to let it go, no one could resolve it for him.

Captain Rogers, witnessing this, was flooded with emotion—guilt, regret, and sorrow.

They could have been good friends, if not for these tragic twists of fate.

At that moment, on screen, Tony Stark had already completed suiting up inside a helicopter. Compared to his portable suitcase armor, this new suit was clearly more convenient.

Across various video feeds, everyone could see Tony Stark's armor constantly evolving and improving.

Then, a scene that shocked everyone unfolded—behind Tony Stark, Black Panther, T'Challa, piloted a highly advanced aircraft, following him undetected. Tony hadn't noticed it at all.

"That looks like the king of Wakanda from the Civil War," Bruce Banner said, puzzled. "Wakanda's technology is this advanced now? The aircraft he's flying barely makes any noise—even hidden beneath a storm—and it's following Tony without being detected by his suit's radar. That's not easy. Or, Tony, you didn't even install micro-radar on your suit?"

Everyone stared at the aircraft, realizing it didn't belong to any known nation. It was likely developed solely by Wakanda.

"No way. Of course I'd add radar, otherwise how would I lock onto targets?" Tony Stark replied immediately.

An armor without radar is basically blind.

"Even an F-22 can't remain completely invisible to me, let alone fly so quietly that I wouldn't notice it," Tony said. "This just proves that Wakanda is far more advanced than we realized."

"In the parallel zombie universe, wasn't it there?" he continued. "Wakanda is a developed region, yet from the outside, we knew almost nothing about it."

"How is that possible? How did they develop this technology with such a small population?" Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow, said in disbelief.

By Wakanda's published population statistics, it's just a small African country.

In modern science and technology, manpower is crucial. To develop such advanced tech, even just for aerospace, the entire population of Wakanda would have to be mobilized.

"This really is a big surprise for us…" Tony squinted and said. "The most reasonable explanation is that, at some point, they acquired extraterrestrial technology, which is why their technology is so advanced."

Nick Fury thought about it—it made sense. SHIELD had also incorporated a lot of alien tech, particularly from the Skrulls.

Still, he found it fascinating. Despite being American, he was fundamentally a Black man. Seeing a powerful African nation emerge, he felt a certain pride. It was a natural emotion.

Meanwhile, on the screen, Captain Rogers and Bucky had also arrived at the base, just in time to see Colonel Zemo driving a tracked vehicle.

Before disembarking, Captain Rogers and Bucky armed themselves. This journey was no sightseeing trip—it was a battle.

Inside were multiple Winter Soldiers, all as formidable as Bucky.

Two of them would face five, but that was fine. Two against five—advantage was on their side.

"Do you remember the year we had to ride in that refrigerated truck, sitting in the back freezer all the way to Rockaway Beach?"

Before getting off, Captain Rogers broke the silence, speaking words only people of their age could understand. In this era, there were probably only a few old veterans left alive—perhaps just the two of them.

"Is that the time you spent our subway money to win that stupid toy bear?" Bucky asked, a faint smile on his face.

"You spent three dollars to get a red-haired woman a toy bear!" Captain Rogers teased.

"What was her name again?"

"Doris. You called her Little Doris!"

"She must be a hundred years old now!"

"So are we, buddy!"

Hearing this, Captain Rogers outside the frame couldn't help but feel nostalgic. Though it happened over seventy years ago, to him—frozen in time—it wasn't long ago.

That was his era. Now, no matter how advanced technology was, no matter how convenient life had become, it was not his time. He had yet to get used to it.

On the screen, as they approached the secret base, Captain Rogers glanced around. "He probably has only been here a few hours."

"That's enough to wake them up!" Bucky said, worry etched on his face.

No one knew better than him how terrifying these former comrades were. Any one of them, left unchecked, could cause massive destruction.

Just as he had easily killed a national leader in the midst of heavy security—these were basic capabilities.

The two proceeded cautiously, taking the elevator to the deepest level, advancing carefully.

Suddenly, they heard a door opening behind them. Instinctively, they assumed defensive positions. In war, they had faced countless crises like this.

But when the door opened, they saw Tony Stark in armor.

As they hesitated, Tony removed his helmet, showing his goodwill—no malice.

"Not bad, you're alert!" Tony found a conversation opener.

"Today hasn't been easy!"

Captain Rogers replied, still cautious—they had just fought a battle.

Even though Tony's stance didn't seem aggressive, Rogers remained wary.

Tony continued, "Relax, soldier. I'm not here for you!"

"Then what are you here for?" Rogers asked. Bucky kept his gun raised behind him, clearly still on guard.

"Maybe what you said isn't so crazy after all!" Tony said as he approached.

"Maybe. Ross doesn't know I'm here, and I don't want him to know either," Tony glanced around. "Otherwise, I'd have to arrest myself!"

He adopted a harmless demeanor.

"Sounds like there's a lot of paperwork to do! Good to see you, Tony!" Captain Rogers lowered his guard and spoke with ease.

Tony chuckled, letting Rogers know he was here to help a friend.

"Likewise, Captain!" Tony replied. Then he looked at Bucky, gun still raised, and said, "Brainwashed soldier defeated, we're on ceasefire. You can put the gun down now!"

The tension between the three eased slightly as they moved inside.

Behind them, Black Panther, T'Challa, appeared, stealthily following.

Clearly, he was not here on friendly terms, or he wouldn't have quietly trailed them without acknowledging Tony.

Everyone knew the situation was extremely dangerous. There could be more Winter Soldiers lying in ambush ahead, and Black Panther was tailing them from behind.

"I'm picking up heat signatures!"

The deeper they went, the more cautious the three became. At any moment, a group of super soldiers could strike. Tony scanned with a heat detector, moving carefully.

This also served as a reminder for the Tony outside the screen—the method wasn't foolproof. He couldn't detect Black Panther trailing behind with the heat sensor.

"How many?" Captain Rogers asked from the rear.

"Uh… one!" Tony was puzzled. Just one?

As they entered further, they found themselves in a vast chamber. Rows of cryogenic pods came into view—and inside, frozen, were Winter Soldiers.
