Chapter 95 - Iron Man's Black History Revealed

Lin Feng didn't know that a short entry from his diary had caused immense mental turmoil for those who read it.

For him, his carefree days might be numbered!

The most famous, perhaps, was Iron Man's iconic moment of carrying a nuclear missile, Tony Stark's first battle to stand shoulder to shoulder with a God, a truly stirring scene.

However, would this Tony Stark still possess that same level of resolve?

Having never been to Afghanistan, never truly faced life and death, never teetered on the brink, never endured the reckless abandon of palladium poisoning, never received a profound lesson from his father twenty years after his death... could he still be the Tony Stark of memory?

It was hard to say. But it had to be admitted that Howard Stark, the man who fathered a genius like Tony Stark, was indeed formidable. He was merely constrained by the times; otherwise, his achievements might not have been inferior to Tony Stark's!

"To stand shoulder to shoulder with a God?"

Everyone in S.H.I.E.L.D. turned to look at Tony Stark, filled with doubt. Could this man really achieve what Lin Feng described, ultimately reaching the level of a God while still being human?

It was just too unbelievable.

Tony Stark also couldn't help but scratch his head. Could the person Lin Feng was talking about really be him?

Even with his unflappable composure, he felt a bit strange reading these descriptions. Was this really about him?

Forget others, even he thought it was bizarre.

"Withstand a nuclear bomb? What does that mean? Can I actually withstand a nuclear bomb?" Tony Stark racked his brains, but couldn't figure it out. What kind of iconic scene was this? He didn't understand it at all.

But then he thought, there's nothing wrong with it. What could possibly be wrong? He, Tony Stark, was that kind of person.

"Although, becoming like a God while still human, that doesn't sound bad!" Tony Stark muttered to himself.

Black Widow, Natasha, gave Tony Stark a meaningful look. The previous description only mentioned Tony Stark reaching the level of a God while still human, but the latter part described a series of hardships for Tony Stark: experiencing life and death in Afghanistan, palladium poisoning, near-death indulgence, and being taught a lesson by his own father twenty years after his death. It seemed the original Tony Stark was destined to endure a lot.

Tony Stark also noticed this, but he would never admit he didn't have that kind of awareness. Well, maybe not as profound as in his original timeline, but definitely not as bad either.

For a smart person, experience is like turning stone into gold, and Tony Stark was definitely that kind of smart.

Besides, he was a little unconvinced. His old man was a brilliant genius who'd given birth to him, another genius, and that was true. Saying his father was limited by the times, Tony Stark agreed with that too, but to say that after being dead for twenty years, his father could still lecture him?

He didn't believe it!

[Because of his near-death experience, Tony was redeemed by his father twenty years ago. No matter how many times you watch it, you still feel something, right!]

A video appeared in the diary, and everyone clicked on it.

To everyone's surprise, the video didn't start with Howard Stark as mentioned, but with Tony Stark wearing a golden-red Mark Armor, DJing and partying. His expression was unrestrained and wild. He held a bottle of liquor in his hand, staggering around.

Even Pepper Potts was speechless when she saw this scene. The crazy party continued until Tony Stark's friend, War Machine Rhodes, arrived.

His wanton behavior, even using energy cannons to shoot watermelons and beer bottles, completely enraged his friend Rhodes.

"Tony, are the parties you usually throw at home this crazy? You have a really heavy taste."

Hawkeye Barton couldn't help but complain. He knew these rich kids, playboys, liked to party, but a party as crazy and unhinged as this, like a bunch of lunatics, still made him frown slightly.

"No, actually, most of the time, it's pretty normal. At least I wouldn't wear my armor to a party and act like a clown looking for attention!" Tony Stark couldn't help but retort.

Although he was criticizing the version of himself in the video, he was very angry. He felt that the self in this video, or rather, perhaps himself from another timeline, was ruining his reputation.

Yes, he usually messed around a bit, was a bit too open, and played with women a bit too much, but he wouldn't joke around with his Iron Man armor.

That was his hard work, something he used to fight evil and prepare to combat aggression.

And this version of himself in the video was wantonly using the armor to throw parties, to please those blonde, big-breasted girls at the party. For him, it was also a kind of humiliation.

Captain America Rogers frowned slightly. In his time, although the social customs of the upper class weren't particularly good, the overall social atmosphere was still much better compared to seventy years later.

Messing around happened in private. To do something like this in public was undoubtedly a challenge to the values of people in that era.

For a moment, everyone was angry and speechless.

Especially Tony Stark. He felt like this was a complete black mark on his history!

His reckless behavior finally infuriated Rhodes. He went down to the basement, put on a silver and white suit of armor, and strode out, shouting at everyone, "I'm only saying this once, get out!"

Seeing his friend in a suit of armor, Tony Stark wasn't surprised, angry, or even upset that his friend had stolen his armor. He was incredibly calm, as if he'd expected this all along. He even had the DJ put on a high-energy song to liven things up.

Rhodes roared that Tony Stark wasn't worthy to wear the armor and demanded he take it off.

The two of them immediately started fighting, like two children, using the gym equipment to hit each other. They even ended up in the middle of the crowd, causing everyone to jump back in surprise.

They ended up hurting each other.

When Tony Stark woke up, Rhodes had already left in the armor. Tony Stark could have had Jarvis stop the whole thing, but he didn't. He just watched him leave.

Everyone watching this was shocked, looking at Tony Stark. They knew how much Tony Stark valued his armor technology. During this time, he'd resisted pressure from the military, the government, and foreign financial groups, refusing to let his armor technology leak out.

Even Tony Stark once famously said that humanity already had enough weapons to kill efficiently, and didn't need any more.

And Rhodes, without a doubt, had a military background.

Yet Tony Stark just handed over the armor without any resistance, which wasn't like him.

"So, is it what Lin Feng said? The palladium poisoning, the madness before death?"

Hill asked cautiously.

The others suddenly remembered that the diary seemed to mention this: Tony Stark's madness before dying from palladium poisoning.

They hadn't seen the palladium poisoning, but they had seen the madness before death.

Tony Stark, usually a dignified, high-and-mighty playboy, was now like a mad clown, even changing his mind and letting his good friend take his armor.

Is this what Lin Feng meant when he said that a person's personality would undergo a complete change after experiencing life and death?

It really has changed drastically.

Tony Stark also noticed this, and he realized why he was acting like a lunatic in the video. Especially when he handed the armor over to Rhodes, it was probably because he didn't want to make his good friend uncomfortable.

After all, Rhodes had come to him about this matter more than once or twice recently.

The pressure from the military was also immense.

He was very clear about all of this.

But now he was starting to seriously consider whether to let his good friend take an armor back, so he'd have something to show for it.

Anyway, according to his estimation, the military wouldn't be able to crack his technology. The ultimate right to use it would probably still be in his good friend's hands.

"Jarvis, help me calculate. If I get palladium poisoning, how long can a person live?"

Tony Stark asked.

After a moment, Jarvis gave the answer, saying, "At most six months, but if the Palladium can be isolated, there's a way to cure it!"

Tony Stark immediately understood where the problem lay. It wasn't the Palladium itself. Palladium could be isolated, like the energy used by his armor, which was produced by a nuclear fusion reaction using Palladium. That didn't affect him.

But the person in the video seemed different. He recalled that in the previous video, after Obadiah had taken his Arc Reactor, his face immediately turned deathly pale, as if he was about to die.

In other words, he had to rely on the Arc Reactor to survive back then. So, at that time, he was facing a dilemma: either use the Arc Reactor and slowly die from Palladium poisoning, or not use the Arc Reactor and die immediately.

It was that simple.

Later, he also had Jarvis run a simulation and analysis. Based on his symptoms and his experiences in Afghanistan, Jarvis deduced what problem he might have that forced him to use the Arc Reactor, or else he would die.

The deduced results indicated that there were likely shrapnel fragments lodged in his body. These tiny fragments were circulating within his blood vessels. He had to use the magnetic force generated by the Arc Reactor to hold these fragments in place; otherwise, they would flow with his blood, and he wouldn't last long.
