Chapter 79: Shisui Uchiha Awakens Sharingan (Part 3 & 4)
"Where's Shisui?" Hanekawa scanned the group, noticing that most of their friends were there, with only Shisui Uchiha missing. Given his personality, he wouldn't typically skip a get-together.
"Shisui hasn't been training with us for the last couple of days," Asuma Sarutobi said with some concern. "Maybe something happened."
"Do you know anything, Obito?" Kakashi Hatake asked.
Ever since Hanekawa went to Kosuke Maruboshi to learn Konoha-Style: Willow, it was Shisui Uchiha who would spar with him. When it came to swordsmanship, Kakashi Hatake was still a cut above the rest. Of course, Shisui Uchiha was also strong, far surpassing his peers.
"He's been at home lately," Obito Uchiha recalled.
"It's our turn!" Yuhi Kurenai waved and asked, "Hanekawa, what do you want to eat?"
Hanekawa turned his attention to the menu on the wall. Remembering the ramen Naruto Uzumaki loved the most, he said, "Char Siu and Spare Rib Ramen."
Yuhi Kurenai quickly followed, saying, "I'll have the same."
"Rin, what do you want to eat?" Obito Uchiha enthusiastically suggested, "I think the Tonkotsu Ramen is really good."
"Okay, then Tonkotsu Ramen," Rin Nohara didn't know which one to choose and didn't refuse.
"Hey, Uncle, two bowls of Tonkotsu Ramen!" Obito Uchiha shouted impatiently.
Kakashi Hatake, accustomed to ignoring him, ordered a vegetable ramen for himself.
"Good choice," Kushina Uzumaki glanced at his order. "Kids should eat more vegetables."
"Should we get the vegetable ramen too?" Minato Namikaze asked with a laugh.
"We're not kids! We're getting the large Char Siu and Spare Rib Ramen!" Kushina Uzumaki declared grandly.
"Sister Kushina is so funny," Yuhi Kurenai's eyes lit up.
"Don't learn from her," Hanekawa whispered. He didn't want Yuhi Kurenai to become a violent tsundere in the future.
"Mm," Yuhi Kurenai nodded, then asked, "How do you know her?"
"My teacher introduced us," Hanekawa casually picked up two pairs of chopsticks.
Yuhi Kurenai was slightly stunned, then her face showed a look of understanding. Hanekawa's teacher was Tsunade, and Minato Namikaze's teacher was Jiraiya. As fellow Sannin, they naturally interacted with each other. As for Kushina Uzumaki, it was obvious she was close to Minato Namikaze.
"Here," Hanekawa handed her a pair of chopsticks.
"Thank you," Yuhi Kurenai said with a big smile.
Hanekawa glanced at Kushina Uzumaki. As her relationship with the Nine-Tails got better, she hadn't gone on a rampage in a long time. Perhaps because of this, she was allowed to go out, much earlier than in the original story. After all, Kushina Uzumaki could be best friends with Mikoto Uchiha; she couldn't have been locked up in a barrier all the time. Hanekawa was lost in thought. Is it time for that filial son, Itachi Uchiha, to be born?
"Here you go!" Teuchi set down the ramen. "Your Char Siu and Spare Rib Ramen, customer."
"Thank you, Uncle Teuchi." Hanekawa picked up his chopsticks, lifted the ramen, and inhaled it in one go. As he chewed, he admitted to himself that the taste was indeed excellent.
"This is so delicious! It's the taste of youth!" Might Guy, not far away, had a look of pure rapture. Hanekawa was half-afraid he would burst out of his clothes.
He pulled his gaze back and opened his Term system. After a month of hard work, he had gained two new Terms.
[A-Rank Ninjutsu Term: Konoha-Style: Willow.]
[Trigger Condition: Successfully perform this ninjutsu.]
[Effect: This ninjutsu automatically reaches proficient level.]
This was thanks to Hanekawa's swordsmanship and Yin Release talents; otherwise, it wouldn't have been so quick. Of course, another reason was that the Konoha-Style: Willow was not as difficult to learn as the Strength of a Hundred Seal.
[D-Rank Talent Term: Water Style Genin.]
[Trigger Condition: Possess three Water Style ninjutsu terms.]
[Effect: The power of all Water Style ninjutsu increases by 30%.]
[Note: Learning more Water Style ninjutsu can evolve this into the C-rank Water Style Chunin term.]
The second term was similar to the previous 'Wind Style Genin' term, with no big surprises. The three Water Style ninjutsu Hanekawa learned, in addition to Water Style: Wild Water Wave, were Water Style: Raging Water Fang and Water Style: Water Release Technique.
"Ah!" Yuhi Kurenai put down her chopsticks and said with a pleased expression, "I'm so full, it feels great!"
"If you like it, we can come here often," Hanekawa handed her a napkin.
"Mm!" Yuhi Kurenai said while wiping her mouth.
"You young people are so full of energy," Minato Namikaze said with a hint of a tease.
"What? Am I old?" Kushina Uzumaki's voice, full of menace, came from beside him.
"I didn't mean that," Minato Namikaze shivered and quickly explained.
"Hanekawa, we'll get going now," Kushina Uzumaki's expression instantly changed, and she said with a smile, "Come over and play with Lady Tsunade when you have a chance."
"Will do." Hanekawa and Tsunade hadn't been to her house in a while, but when they did, it was usually for gambling. Especially that big fox, the Nine-Tails, which had a gambling addiction on par with Tsunade's. Although its luck was slightly better, it was limited, a true example of being terrible at something but loving it anyway.
After eating ramen, everyone went their separate ways.
"Should we go to Uncle Kosuke's place?" Yuhi Kurenai skipped along, following Hanekawa, in a great mood.
"I'm going to the Konoha Hospital," Hanekawa thought for a moment. He had already learned the Konoha-Style: Willow and didn't need to bother Kosuke Maruboshi anymore. But Yuhi Kurenai still had a long way to go with her Water Style.
"Okay." Yuhi Kurenai was a little disappointed, but she wasn't willful. The two of them reached an intersection and stopped.
"Wait, your hair is a little messy," Hanekawa stepped forward and tidied the strands behind her ear. At close range, Yuhi Kurenai looked at him and felt her heart race. Her face flushed, and she suppressed her emotions, saying very politely, "Thank you."
"It's nothing," Hanekawa withdrew his hand. "See you tonight."
"Mm." Yuhi Kurenai turned around and sighed with relief. She thought to herself that Hanekawa was so handsome.
Konoha Hospital. Hanekawa was greeted with a warm welcome from many of the senior nurses. It had been a while since he had been there. Hanekawa finally managed to get away from them and arrived at Nonō Yakushi's office.
"Hanekawa?" Nonō Yakushi was a little surprised to see him.
"Head Nurse," Hanekawa asked, "Is there anything I can help with today?" He had many ninjutsu to learn, but medical ninjutsu was the most important. After all, he was Tsunade's student and couldn't disgrace her.
"Of course," Nonō Yakushi smiled. "I have a surgery later, and you can be my assistant."
"No problem," Hanekawa said with a serious tone. "Mission accomplished."
"Here are the patient's records," Nonō Yakushi chuckled, seeming even gentler.
"Yūgao Uzuki?" Hanekawa glanced at the file and was slightly taken aback.
"Do you know her?" Nonō Yakushi asked, a little curious.
"I don't," Hanekawa shook his head. "I just didn't expect the patient to be so young, only five years old."
In the original story, Yūgao Uzuki was Hayate Gekkō's girlfriend. Her strength was decent as a Special Jonin, and she specialized in Konoha-Style swordsmanship.
"It's almost time. Let's go to the operating room," Nonō Yakushi looked at the clock on the wall.
"Okay." Hanekawa changed into a special white medical uniform.
"You're around the same age. Remember to comfort her," Nonō Yakushi said as they walked. "She's crying very hard."
"Broken bones do hurt," Hanekawa said with sympathy.
"Lady Nonō," a young man came to greet them at the operating room door. "We're about to do surgery on my daughter."
Nonō Yakushi said gently, "She'll be fine soon."
"Thank you, Lady Nonō!" The young man was full of gratitude, but when he noticed Hanekawa, he was surprised. "Why is there such a young medical ninja?" There was a hint of apprehension in his voice.
"This is Hanekawa," Nonō Yakushi introduced him. "He's Lady Tsunade's student."
"So it's him!" The young man shook Hanekawa's hand. "Please, I'm counting on you!"
"I will." Hanekawa couldn't help but sigh. The status of medical ninjas was indeed high. No ninja would provoke a medical ninja without a reason. In fact, this was also related to the scarcity of medical ninjas in the ninja world. In Konoha, because of Tsunade, there were relatively more medical ninjas. In other ninja villages, the situation was much more dire.
In the original story, when Kankurō was poisoned by Sasori's poison, the entire Village Hidden in the Sand was helpless, and it was Sakura Haruno who saved him. And when the Fourth Raikage was hit by an explosion bug from the Xuanyuan faction, he would have died if Tsunade hadn't acted in time.
Hanekawa walked into the operating room and heard a low whimper. He looked towards the hospital bed and saw a cute, purple-haired little girl with tear-stained cheeks.
"Hello, my name is Hanekawa," Hanekawa walked over and patted her head.
Yūgao Uzuki looked up at him with a blank expression.
"It won't hurt anymore soon," Hanekawa looked at Nonō Yakushi. With her permission, he made hand seals. A pale green chakra surged forth and covered Yūgao Uzuki's leg. The pain was blocked, and her eyes widened.
"It really doesn't hurt anymore?" Yūgao Uzuki stopped crying and smiled. "Thank you, big brother!"
"Just call me Hanekawa," Hanekawa quickly said. "You don't need to call me 'big brother'."
Yūgao Uzuki tilted her head, not quite understanding. He was handsome, but a strange person.
"Close your eyes," Hanekawa said when he saw that Nonō Yakushi's surgery had already begun.
"Mm." Yūgao Uzuki obediently complied. Hanekawa patted her head again before getting up to help.
An hour later, the surgery was over. Hanekawa let out a sigh of relief. He looked up at Yūgao Uzuki and saw that she had fallen asleep.
"Let her sleep," Nonō Yakushi walked out of the operating room.
Hanekawa followed her.
"The surgery was a success," Nonō Yakushi said with a smile. "You can follow her to the ward."
"Thank you, Lady Nonō!" The young man paused and then said, "And thank you, little Hanekawa, for your help."
Please get rid of the 'little' word! Hanekawa nodded slightly, maintaining his professional demeanor. "It's what I should do."
The day at the Konoha Hospital passed quickly. Hanekawa gained a lot of proficiency, and although he was still far from mastery, he wasn't worried as long as there was a progress bar; it was only a matter of time.
As he was about to leave work, he ran into the young man again.
"Hanekawa," the young man walked up to him and asked, "Are you free now? My daughter is awake and wants to thank you in person."
Hanekawa thought about it and decided to go see Yūgao Uzuki with him.
"Big brother!" Yūgao Uzuki shouted happily when she saw him.
Hanekawa was about to say something, but in the end, he didn't correct her. He walked over and patted her head.
"How are you feeling?" Hanekawa asked.
"I'm a little uncomfortable, but it doesn't hurt anymore," Yūgao Uzuki paused. "Big brother is truly..."
"A miraculous healer!" the young man added when his daughter hesitated.
"Right!" Yūgao Uzuki quickly agreed.
"I still have a long way to go," Hanekawa smiled and said, "You should rest well, and you'll recover in a few days." He chatted with her for a few more moments before getting up to leave.
Hanekawa stood at the hospital entrance. He was originally planning to go straight home, but he suddenly thought of Shisui Uchiha. After a moment of thought, he started walking toward the Uchiha clan's compound. In the original story, the Uchiha clan had moved to the edge of the village, but they hadn't yet. Their location was relatively central. A normal ninja would avoid going to the Uchiha clan's compound because they would be treated with contempt.
Hanekawa was different. He had treated many Uchiha ninjas at the Konoha Hospital. In addition, he was Tsunade's student, so he was rarely met with prejudice.
After getting directions, Hanekawa headed to Shisui Uchiha's house. Before he even arrived, he heard the constant sound of wind cutting. He was very familiar with this sound; it was the sound of a sword being swung. Hanekawa looked up. Shisui Uchiha was training with his ninja sword in front of his house.
"Shisui," Hanekawa greeted him from a distance.
"Hanekawa?" Shisui Uchiha turned his head when he heard the voice.
Hanekawa's heart jolted. His eyes were crimson, and within the pupil of each was a single black tomoe. It was the Sharingan.
"Sorry," Shisui Uchiha realized what had happened and quickly deactivated his Sharingan.
"When did you awaken your eyes?" Hanekawa walked over and asked curiously.
"Just two days ago," Shisui Uchiha said in a low voice. His expression seemed more somber than usual.
Hanekawa was lost in thought. The Uchiha clan's eyes all awaken from intense emotional trauma. Shisui Uchiha was no exception; something must have happened to him.
"Hanekawa, what are you looking for?" Shisui Uchiha asked calmly.
"You haven't been training with them lately, so I came to check on you," Hanekawa explained.
"I'll join you guys in two more days," Shisui Uchiha thought for a moment. He had just awakened his eyes and couldn't yet control the increased power, so he needed time to adjust.
"Okay," Hanekawa nodded slightly. "Want to spar?"
"Now?" Shisui Uchiha was stunned, a little confused.
"I'm very curious about the Uchiha clan's Sharingan," Hanekawa said with a laugh. "Obito always says that once he awakens his eyes, he can beat me and Kakashi."
"Big brother Obito is exaggerating a little," Shisui Uchiha scratched his head. "Awakening the eyes does make you stronger, but it doesn't make you invincible."
"So... want to spar?" Hanekawa asked again.
"Let's go!" Shisui Uchiha's spirits lifted. As a genius, he naturally had his pride. After losing to Hanekawa last time, he had always wanted to win the match back.
