Chapter 91 - Uchiha Shisui

Chapter 91 – Uchiha Shisui

"That old man summoned us again…" Tsunade muttered irritably as she stepped into the Hokage's office. But the moment she noticed the room filled with Konoha's senior jōnin, she held back her complaints and sat down with a scowl on her face.

"Tsunade, glad you're here. Please, take a seat," said Hiruzen Sarutobi, motioning toward the chairs set aside for them.

Soon enough, everyone who had been summoned arrived. They were the elite—key figures within Konoha's military and administrative structure.

"The reason I've gathered you here today," Hiruzen began, his voice calm yet commanding, "is to discuss something very important."

He paused briefly before continuing, "I'm getting old… and I believe it's time I step down from my role as Hokage. That's why I want to hear your thoughts on who you think should become the next Hokage."

The room instantly fell into stunned silence. No one made a sound—except for one person: Hatake Yusuke. He sat calmly, his expression unchanged, as if he had already anticipated this.

"I believe the next Hokage should be chosen from the three Legendary Sannin. Among them, Orochimaru-sama is by far the strongest. I support him!" one jōnin declared confidently.

"I agree!"

"Me too!"

"Orochimaru-sama has my vote as well!"

Voices of support started echoing across the room.

However…

"I disagree," a grizzled older jōnin said firmly. "In my opinion, Namikaze Minato is far more qualified. In terms of intelligence, power, and talent, he might even surpass Orochimaru-sama."

Several others nodded in agreement, and even Hiruzen himself seemed pleased by that suggestion.

"I support Minato."

"Same here."

"Minato for Hokage!"

Then, a strong voice cut through the noise.

"I nominate Hatake Yusuke-sama. Despite his young age, his strength is beyond comparison. I think we all know that." The speaker was a shinobi who had once fought alongside Tsunade and Jiraiya during the war with Sunagakure.

That comment silenced the room once more. Many started to second-guess their choices. It was true—Yusuke's power was terrifying. During the war, he single-handedly pressured an entire Hidden Village to surrender. Had he gone all-out, not a single Konoha soldier would have died.

"I agree!"

"Hatake Yusuke for Hokage!"

Still, the number of Yusuke's supporters didn't match those of the other two candidates. Some couldn't bring themselves to accept someone so young for such a heavy responsibility.

"Yusuke," Hiruzen called, "in your own opinion, who do you think should be the next Hokage?"

"Oh? Personally, I think Minato-nii is the best choice," Yusuke replied without hesitation.

"Would you mind explaining why?"

"There's no particular reason. Just a feeling. Minato-nii is cheerful, kind-hearted, treats the villagers with warmth, strong, and incredibly smart."

"That's all?" Hiruzen asked with a raised brow.

"You think that's not enough?" Yusuke replied flatly.

"Haha… no, that's more than enough," the old Hokage chuckled.

"Then… what do you think of Orochimaru?" he asked next.

"Snake-ojisan, huh? I don't think he's fit for the Hokage role. It's not his dream, and the position would only weigh him down. Hokage is way too busy for someone like him. Isn't that right?" Yusuke said, casting a glance at Orochimaru.

"You're absolutely correct," Orochimaru responded in his calm, deep tone. "I've no intention of becoming Hokage. And yes… I also think Minato is the right choice."

Danzo Shimura's expression tightened.

"Namikaze Minato is still too young. He isn't ready," Danzo argued.

"I agree," Koharu Utatane added.

"Same here," Homura Mitokado chimed in.

"Then who do you suggest?" Yusuke retorted. "Tsunade? Aren't you worried she might gamble away the entire village? Even if she swore off gambling forever, I still wouldn't vote for her."

"You jerk! You think I'm that bad at gambling?!" Tsunade barked, her cheeks red with fury.

"Well, I have no interest in becoming Hokage anyway," Jiraiya added with a sheepish smile. "That kind of job just doesn't suit me."

"Looks like the answer's obvious now, isn't it?" Yusuke shrugged.

"Very well," Hiruzen declared with a firm voice. "Namikaze Minato shall become the Fourth Hokage. The inauguration will be scheduled soon."

A few days later, Minato officially inherited the title of Fourth Hokage.

"Congrats, Minato-nii," Yusuke said casually, sitting atop the Hokage Rock, legs dangling over the edge.

"Why didn't you attend the ceremony?" Minato asked.

"I was just thinking… As your friend, I should be happy for you. But being Hokage isn't as glorious as it seems."

"No matter what lies ahead, it's the path I've chosen," Minato replied, his smile calm and unwavering.

"Even if it costs your life?"

"Since I became a shinobi, I've always been ready to die."

"…I see."

"How's Kakashi doing these days?" Minato asked, concern creeping into his voice.

"He's not entirely over Obito's death yet… but he's doing better."

The two exchanged small talk like old friends, catching up on things.

"When are you leaving?" Minato asked.

"I'm not sure. Maybe next year."

"And when will you be back?"

"I don't know that either."

They shared a few more words before quietly going their separate ways.

On his way home, Yusuke happened to walk through the Uchiha district.

"Hm? Uchiha kids? Two of them…" Yusuke slowed his steps.

"So that's it... That movement was really quick," he muttered, nodding in approval.

"Who's there?!" one of the boys called out, his voice sharp with tension.

Yusuke smiled softly. "Impressive. To be that alert at your age… Very promising."

The boy was Shisui Uchiha. He stared at the silver-haired young man in front of him—handsome, with sharp features that could easily make any girl swoon.

"Good afternoon, Yusuke-sama," Shisui greeted with a polite bow.

"You know me?" Yusuke asked with a faint smile.

"Of course," Shisui replied. How could I not? Because of you... the Uchiha were nearly wiped out...

"Your Body Flicker Technique is impressive—very fast," Yusuke praised.

"Shisui, who is he?" Itachi asked, standing beside him. As the Uchiha heir, Itachi was already far beyond the average genin, but seeing Shisui act so respectfully piqued his curiosity.

"Itachi, he's—"

"So you're Uchiha Itachi? Not bad," Yusuke interrupted with a sharp gaze.

"Well, if there's nothing else, I'll be going. Both of you have real talent. Don't waste it," Yusuke said as he turned to leave.

"Wait, Yusuke-sama!" Shisui called out quickly.

"Oh? What is it?" Yusuke tilted his head slightly.

"I… I humbly ask you to teach me the Body Flicker Technique. Please!"

Yusuke chuckled. "Alright."

"Really?!"

"Of course," he replied gently.

"But before that… let me see your skills for myself."

"My apologies for being so forward!" Shisui bowed deeply.

"Sharingan!"

With a snap, Shisui activated his dōjutsu. He knew better than to hold anything back in front of Hatake Yusuke.
