Lucian's POV
The night felt heavy. Cold winds whispered through the trees of the borderlands as I stood alone in the clearing, staring at the empty space where Hilda and Evelyn had vanished moments ago.
Hilda had stated her terms before disappearing with Evelyn.
If I still wish to break my bond with Evelyn, I need to bring Hilda the body of a young female.
Hilda's words still rang in my ears, her sharp voice, her smug tone.
"You have until the moon rises again to bring me what I want."
I exhaled slowly, the sound halfway between a sigh and a growl. "This is all too boring," I muttered to no one. The entire ordeal felt like some cruel jest from the goddess.
I could hunt Hilda down, tear her limb from limb for daring to toy with me. It would be easy. One strike, one slice, and her old wrinkled heart would stop beating. But killing her wouldn't change the fact that I'd still be bound to Evelyn. That fragile, infuriating, intriguing little human girl.
