Chapter 33 - Chapter 32 – Hardware Recalibration and the Turtle’s Sigh

Any systems engineer knows that you cannot install a next-generation processor into an old motherboard without first updating the drivers. If you fail to do so, the system overheats, the fans spin at maximum speed, and the peripherals explode.

When Delta's Falna ascended to Level 2 in the dungeon of Orario, the Architect's base vessel expanded exponentially. For Delta—who was deeply asleep in his sleeping bag—it was a smooth process. But for the other twelve avatars scattered across the multiverse, the sudden hardware upgrade in the middle of their daily lives turned into a logistical disaster.

Their organic bodies suddenly possessed double the muscle density, triple the synaptic speed, and an energy flow powerful enough to burst their blood vessels.

They needed an emergency software patch to avoid accidentally destroying the worlds they lived in.

Universe of High School DxD – Kuoh Academy

It was lunchtime.

Kappa, the tenth avatar, was on the school rooftop enjoying his sacred nap beneath the shadow of the clock tower. Inside his jacket, Ignis, the small twilight dragon, snored softly.

Then the server update hit.

Kappa's muscles redensified at the cellular level in less than a heartbeat. His stamina reserves exploded. He opened his eyes abruptly, stifling a gasp as the demonic power lingering in the environment reacted to the immense pressure emanating from his body.

Kappa placed one hand on the concrete floor of the rooftop to sit up.

He forgot to recalibrate the inertia of his new hardware.

Crack.

His fingers sank into the reinforced concrete as if it were warm butter cake.

Kappa stared at his hand embedded in the floor and sighed with existential exhaustion.

"Excellent. Now I'll have to walk as if the world were made of rice paper. What a headache."

Network Synchronization (Alpha):

Stop being dramatic, Kappa. Use the Turtle School modulation breathing. Inhale while holding Ki at your center of gravity, then exhale while sealing your pores. If your energy flows inward instead of outward, your physical strength will return to normal civilian parameters. You'll be able to hold a pencil without pulverizing it.

Kappa closed his eyes, inhaled deeply, and applied the Dragon Ball breathing technique. His aura—on the verge of erupting—compressed until it completely vanished.

He carefully removed his hand from the concrete and dusted his fingers.

"Did you drop something?"

The monotone, emotionless voice came from his left.

Sitting on the edge of the rooftop railing, her legs dangling into the void, was Koneko Toujou. The small white-haired girl held a half-eaten melon bun.

She had just witnessed Kappa casually punch through the school building.

"A coin fell," Kappa lied with a completely blank expression. "I was trying to retrieve it. My nails are very strong because of calcium."

Koneko stopped chewing.

In the complex world of supernatural politics, Kuoh belonged to the Devils under Rias Gremory's jurisdiction. But Fallen Angels and the Church constantly infiltrated the city searching for Sacred Gear users.

Koneko was the watcher.

Her instincts detected no hostility from Kappa—but the flash of power she had sensed moments earlier was absurd.

Before she could question him, the Sage radar issued an alert.

Two hundred meters away, above an alleyway, a dark magic circle appeared. A Fallen Angel materialized a spear of pure light and aimed it toward the schoolyard, where the oblivious Issei Hyoudou was cleaning.

Koneko tensed, ready to jump.

Kappa sighed.

"Please don't make so much noise during nap time."

Knowing that if Koneko fought there would be an investigation from Rias, Kappa casually pulled out a 100-yen coin.

He deactivated the suppression breathing only in his thumb, combined the monstrous physical force of Level 2, and flicked the coin.

BAM!

The sonic boom shattered a window below.

The coin became a blue streak that crossed two hundred meters in a millisecond, striking the Fallen Angel's spear of light.

The magic detonated harmlessly in the sky, and the attacker—terrified by the invisible sniper—fled through a portal.

Kappa reactivated the Turtle breathing and suppressed his power instantly.

He clicked his tongue.

"I just wasted a hundred yen. This world owes me money."

Koneko slowly turned toward him.

A human had just deflected lethal magic with spare change.

"If you tell your noisy red-haired president what you saw," Kappa said pragmatically, "she'll try to recruit me. And if she recruits me, I'll get dragged into demonic faction politics. I have a strict policy of not working after school."

He reached into his jacket, used Iota's assimilated alchemy, and restructured a piece of dry bread at the molecular level.

It became a perfectly baked vanilla cream macaron.

"Here. A bribe. And if you betray me, I'll eat every dessert in the cafeteria before you get there."

Koneko looked into Kappa's lazy but deadly eyes.

She swallowed, accepted the sweet with trembling hands, and took a bite.

Her hidden cat ears twitched with pure culinary bliss.

"Deal," she murmured softly.

Kappa nodded and walked down the stairs, while Koneko remained on the rooftop, torn between political duty and the fact that the god of laziness had just given her the best dessert of her life.

While Kappa dealt with demonic politics, Nu suffered the same biomechanical nightmare in his dorm room.

The alarm clock rang at seven in the morning.

Still half asleep and hit by Delta's Level 2 power surge, Nu reached out to turn it off.

He forgot to modulate his strength.

CRUNCH.

The clock compressed into a disk of shattered plastic and gears beneath his fingertip.

"Damn it…" Nu muttered.

"Delta is a growth-obsessed bastard. Now I'll have to use Turtle breathing just to brush my teeth."

Meanwhile, Stella Vermillion and Ikki Kurogane were arguing nearby—an argument escalating into a duel.

Nu, still in pajamas, yawned.

"You two are exhausting. Lifetime slavery at seven in the morning? You need coffee, not a duel."

"Shut up, you lazy idiot!" Stella shouted, blushing furiously. "You're watching the duel too!"

Hours later, during the duel in the arena, Stella unleashed Dragon Breath, a massive wave of fire.

Ikki countered with Ittou Shura.

The resulting shockwave blasted toward the stands—

directly toward Nu, who was asleep using his jacket as a pillow.

Ikki screamed in horror.

Stella turned pale.

Nu didn't wake up.

He partially released the Turtle suppression in his arm, picked up a rolled academy pamphlet, and applied Jujutsu redirection.

Tap.

The massive wall of fire split perfectly left and right, leaving a cold corridor around Nu before dissipating.

Nu lowered his arm and snored softly.

That afternoon, while buying juice from a vending machine, Stella cornered him demanding answers.

Nu momentarily lost concentration on his breathing technique.

He pulled the lever.

The entire metal door of the vending machine ripped off its hinges.

Nu stared at it in his hand and sighed.

"I told you. You're too loud. You make me break things."

Then he walked away with his drink, leaving the Crimson Princess accidentally falling in love with a mystery wrapped in laziness and brute strength.

Unlike the others trying to blend into society, Alpha embraced the wild.

The Level 2 upgrade struck while he was climbing a cliff.

With a single push, he accidentally leaped three hundred meters into the air.

A massive armored dinosaur ambushed him.

Alpha calmly combined Falna strength, Ki mastery, and Black Syntax.

He slid beneath the beast's jaws and struck precise nerve points.

The dinosaur collapsed instantly.

That night, beneath a freezing sky, Alpha roasted dinosaur meat over a fire.

While eating, he refined the Turtle breathing technique and transmitted the method across the multiversal network so his brothers would stop accidentally destroying vending machines.

Here, in the silence of nature, Alpha found true peace.

Universe of One Piece – The Grand Line

Politics on the seas was a chess game between the Marines, the Shichibukai, and the Yonko.

Eta, recently promoted in the Marines, was escorting a shipment of Seastone (Kairoseki).

When the Level 2 upgrade hit, he accidentally crushed his sword's handle to dust.

"Great," Eta sighed. "Now I have to file replacement paperwork."

Moments later, pirate ships attacked.

Cannonballs flew toward the Marine vessel.

Eta walked to the railing.

Using Armament Haki, he casually tapped the incoming cannonballs with his finger.

Ping. Ping. Ping.

The cannonballs reversed direction and destroyed the pirate ship on the horizon.

The Marines stared in shock.

Eta wiped his finger on his pants.

"Captain. My sword broke because of the sea breeze. I'll need a replacement. I'll be in my cabin."

Universe of Demon Slayer – Taisho Era, Japan

Deep within a wisteria forest, Gamma faced a Lower Moon demon manipulating razor-sharp blood threads.

The Level 2 update struck mid-battle.

Gamma landed and accidentally crushed the ground into a ten-meter crater.

"Too much power, not enough calibration," he thought.

He inhaled using Total Concentration Breathing combined with Turtle modulation.

To the demon, his power vanished.

Gamma walked calmly through the web of blood threads.

His blade, coated with Black Syntax, decapitated the demon before it could blink.

The demon turned to ash.

As rain began to fall, Gamma yawned, wishing for hot green tea at the Butterfly Estate.

The multiverse demanded blood and heroism—

but the Architect, armed with divine power and the breathing rhythm of a turtle, sought only his divine right

to rest in peace.
