Due to shock, her feet took an odd turn, and she tripped, but before she could fall, the girl with her face held her in her arms, and at that moment, the fear she felt dissipated. Shortly after, Jack, looking surprised, asked.
"Serena, is that you?" Serena stood upright and said
"Yes, and you are?"
"Okay, this might be hard to believe, but I'm your dad, and this girl is your twin sister," Serena feigned laughter and asked.
"Is this some sort of prank? Is someone hiding a camera here? Do you seriously expect me to believe that"?
"As I said, I know this is a lot to take in, but it's the truth."
"You might not believe his words, but I'm standing here, in front of you," Seraphina said
Serena looked at her and felt this sense of belonging. Long story short, she walked into the house, and that was when she noticed drastic changes in the house's interior.
From her childhood memories, she could swear the stairs used to be on the other side of the hallway, decorations lined the walls that looked completely different from anything in the pictures, but as she came across a portrait of her mother, she couldn't help but gasp.
Her memories of her mother were all the times she saw her frail and pale in her sick bed. In the pictures, she looked very pretty, but this picture looked to have been taken even before those. Her mother looked just like her; tears welled in her eyes, and Seraphina held her smiling as she said,"
"She must've been a great person. You're lucky to have known her."
Just then, Serena couldn't hold back and started wailing, hugging Seraphina, saying to herself, It was all her fault. Eventually, she settled down as they all sat in the Living room.
Serena noticed that everything about Seraphina looked nothing more than, unnatural; her shoulders did not move while she was breathing, she sat in a perfect posture, not even relaxed in the least bit, and for Jack, he also seemed perfect but looked much more natural than Seraphina. Breaking the ice, Jack asked.
"Serena, do you not want to help yourself to something? Are you hungry?" That was when she realized she really needed something to eat after going hungry for a whole day.
"Yes, I'm really hungry, I can go to the kitchen and whip something up really quick." Then Jack gestured for her to sit down and called out.
"Wendy, quickly get something for my daughter to eat. What do you want?"
"A salad should be okay." The woman quickly walked out; even the servants' uniforms looked like something straight off the red carpet. Did her dad own some Fortune 500 company?
And if so, why did he not aid her mother and her, she thought, reminiscing how she had to balance school and work and had no time for friends partying, things other teenagers did; moreover, if he paid her mom's bills…
Seraphina seemed a bit strange upon first impression, but after talking for five minutes, she felt like she had known her sister for her entire life. Jack then excused them, and later on, the cook returned with her salad.
After eating, all Serena wanted to do was sleep. Everything that happened the other day was just way too tiring and took a toll on her,
Seraphina then showed her this dreamy bedroom that was adorned in bright things. Her bedspread was as blue as the sky, the sheets were cloud white, and her pillows looked as bright as the sun. On the walls lay an eclipse, a waterfall, and a galaxy of stars. It was all so dynamic, but came together to make the perfect blend.
She then walked into the bath, and the place was spotless, porcelain white, with silver trimmings all over it; it looked simply breathtaking.
She lay in the tub and soaked in warm milk and honey. It just felt great on her skin, and after taking her shower, she realized she had nothing to change into, and, left with no alternative option, she called for her sister Seraphina.
She came into the room and said in that voice that made her think she was talking to herself.
"Serena, I heard you call. Do you need anything?"
"I would like a change of clothes."
"Oh, I have something perfect for you," she excitedly left and came back into the room with a pale blue dress, a pair of matching Maryjane heels, and a small hat to go with it, then called in maids to do Serena's hair and makeup.
After all that, she looked in the mirror and couldn't recognize herself; her hair was tied back into a braid, exposing her warm blue eyes, the blue dress contrasting her rosy skin that never felt softer nor looked healthier.
Seraphina walked into the room and smiled, pleased at what she saw, and said
"Wow, you really are my twin."
"And you did not see that before?" Serena remarked.
"Hey, I was in Channel while you were in second-hand clothes; we couldn't stand on the same footing."
"I get you, but I never thought I could look this pretty," Serena said to herself, looking into the mirror like she was looking upon a famous model.
Later on, as they all sat at the dinner table, Serena noticed that none of them touched their food while she heartily ate her steak like it was the best meal in the world, and after she was done, she asked,
"Would you guys not eat your meal?"
"No, we are completely fine," they both replied in perfect unison. Then Jack said
"Serena, I want you to attend Raven High, though it is not as popular as Den Ridge. The school's funds and facilities surpass it ten times over."
"But Mr. Blackwood…"
"Call me dad."
"Um, Dad, I think it's a bit too early to go back to school, Mom just died, and…"
"I understand, I'll give you two weeks, but any more than that and you won't be able to get in."
"Thanks, Dad," She replied under her breath. Now she had a new life, somewhere different, and all with a space in her heart, where her mom used to be.
