Chapter 404 - Eye

When the teleportation spell appeared in the Legion's Eye command hall, Sphrackse's gradually materializing figure lifted Erodus's mood.

"You're back? Since you weren't detained by those witches, that means—"

"Erodus!"

Sphrackse roughly interrupted Erodus's musings. As he looked at her in confusion, Sphrackse tried her best to keep her voice from trembling.

"I... I think we might have to solve this problem ourselves."

"...Solve it ourselves?"

Erodus's voice dropped, then suddenly rose like a thunderous explosion, "How can we solve it ourselves?! We are commanders, generals, but not omnipotent gods. The Legion's reinforcements are being blocked by mortals and undead. With only the forces we can currently deploy, how can we stop them?!"

However, this anger came and went quickly. Erodus soon sneered, "Tell me, what exactly happened?"

Sphrackse recalled the treatment she received before the Burning Throne, feeling as if everything had turned into a tangled mess. Fortunately, her sanity and logic as an admiral remained. She recounted what she had witnessed.

"I couldn't even enter the gates of the Throne. The Coven roughly blocked me, and so did the Master of the Legion's subordinates. They seemed to be obeying the witches' orders, preventing my advance."

Sphrackse shook her head, recalling, "They seemed to be at a critical point of some terrifying ritual. My arrival probably interrupted them, making one of the priestesses particularly furious."

She glanced at the scorch marks on her hand, already somewhat unsure of how things would proceed.

The Eredar had sacrificed everything for Sargeras, and now, was the Dark Titan finally going to abandon them as he abandoned his own people?

Sphrackse dared not dwell on it, but Erodus detected a hint of something amiss. "You said you didn't even see the Master of the Legion, not even his avatar or his will appeared?"

Sphrackse nodded, which only made Erodus more certain of his suspicions. "Those witches are definitely hiding something from all of us. They even deceived the great Master!"

As a warlike Eredar general, Erodus refused to believe that Sargeras, who led them to destroy countless worlds, would "betray" them. The Eredar had contributed greatly to the Burning Legion's campaigns, as all demon races could see, and this was why the Eredar held such a high position within the Burning Legion.

Even if the Coven members had special identities, they had no reason to prevent the Legion's supreme commander from meeting the Dark Titan. Erodus, who had dealt with countless similar incidents, immediately became alert. "That's right... these succubus witches, and those Nathrezim, they're probably in league with each other! They want to see Kil'jaeden and Archimonde fall, and see the Eredar's status in the Burning Legion plummet—these insects, I'll send out scouts to investigate immediately!"

Despite the ongoing intense battle outside, Erodus was determined to address internal Legion issues at this moment. In his view, some demons were jealous of the Eredar's position and wanted to use this opportunity to make the Eredar lose all face and trust before Sargeras.

Sphrackse wasn't sure if this was truly the case, but judging by the current developments, it seemed to align with Erodus's thoughts. The Eredar had already paid an extremely heavy price: Kil'jaeden and Archimonde, the two giants of the Legion, had both perished. Archimonde's loyal subordinate, Mannoroth, was missing in action during the campaign, while the Nathrezim, who had always wavered within the Legion with unclear motives, remained hidden throughout the entire war.

It seemed everything matched Erodus's suspicions, but surprisingly, Sphrackse disagreed with Erodus's approach.

"I think it's better not to send people to investigate. After all, we can't investigate everything... What if we really find something out?"

This question stumped Erodus. "What do you mean, 'what if we really find something out'?! If it's found that these insects are making these petty moves while the enemy is at our gates, the Master of the Legion will naturally settle accounts with all of them!"

But Sphrackse quietly asked, "What if all of this is the Master of the Legion's will?"

This single sentence instantly deflated the previously agitated Erodus, leaving him stunned in place like a punctured balloon.

This ancient commander, who had participated in countless battles, witnessed the golden age of Eredar civilization and the entire Burning Legion's campaign, and whose resolve had never wavered, showed a look of confusion for the first time.

"You... what do you mean?"

"I don't mean anything. My only thought is to do what we're supposed to do. Some things are not for us to get involved in... Even Kil'jaeden and Archimonde couldn't really control such a situation anymore."

Sphrackse sighed. Her trip to the Burning Throne had made her realize many things. The fact that she couldn't even step through the gates of the Throne already spoke volumes.

An eerie silence fell over the Legion's Eye command hall, yet they could still hear the sounds of battle outside the fortress.

The battlefield situation would not change in the slightest due to their discussion. Although the Legion could still prevent the forces of Azeroth from advancing further, Erodus didn't know how long this could last.

Without a fleet, without reinforcements, the Legion was like a tiger with its teeth and claws pulled out, unable to exert much strength, only able to watch helplessly as the allied forces advanced step by step.

The demons didn't understand. In terms of individual combat ability and troop numbers, they should clearly have the advantage, yet why were they repeatedly frustrated when dealing with the lives on Azeroth, both ten thousand years ago and now?

This was almost a dead end with no hope, and Erodus and Sphrackse, as the supreme commanders, knew this clearly.

Could it be that they should surrender to Velen?

But they also knew that Velen would never accept the surrender of executioners like them, whose hands were stained with the blood of countless innocents. No Eredar oppressed by the Legion would.

---

"Your Majesty Arthas, this is the front-line battle report. Please review it personally."

A scout respectfully handed the battle report to Arthas. After Arthas took it, the scout intended to leave, but at that moment, Arthas called out, stopping his hasty steps.

"Wait."

The scout immediately stopped, turned to look at Arthas, and puffed out his chest, ready to receive the King's command.

But Arthas's words made a drop of cold sweat trickle down his forehead.

"This disguise is not clever—at least not as strong as your courage. State your purpose, and tell me, what happened to the person who was supposed to deliver this letter?"
