Chapter 402 - Artillery

Turalyon, Alleria, and Khadgar had fought side-by-side for many years, their coordination seamless. Imonar had initially found Alleria to be a handful, but when the three fought together, he genuinely sensed a great threat.

Turalyon's martial arts were superb, and combined with his years of experience fighting demons, the petty tricks that might deceive less experienced mortals were useless against a steady warrior like him. Imonar's skills, designed for hunting and assassination, were already not very effective in direct combat, and facing Turalyon, he felt awkward at every turn.

His heavy blows were frequently parried or deflected by Turalyon, and his tricky attacks were seen through. The slightest mistake would result in him being counterattacked by Turalyon.

Not to mention Khadgar and Alleria were helping to harass and weaken Imonar from a distance. From an initial back-and-forth, it quickly devolved into Imonar being passively on the defensive.

And after this short time, the other soldiers of the Alliance had already reacted. While their individual strength was no match for Imonar, they were more than sufficient to assist in surrounding him.

"Quickly, get a few cannons to help me break through!"

Seeing that if he delayed any longer, he would be surrounded three layers deep, with no room to escape, Imonar quickly sent a message to Antorus, hoping for artillery support.

"Lord Imonar, your current position is beyond the range of fixed artillery support."

On the other end of the communication, the demon technician controlling the cannons tried to make his explanation sound as polite as possible.

"Don't think about such useless things; just fire at the coordinates I gave you!"

Imonar precariously parried Turalyon's sword, aimed at his neck, then waved his hand to swat away Alleria's arrow, finally taking a direct hit from one of Khadgar's signature fireballs.

The scorching pain made his vision blur for a moment, but he couldn't dodge all the attacks, only choosing this way of avoiding the worst.

An arrow imbued with Void Power could take a whole chunk of flesh with just a graze, let alone if it pierced the body. Even Imonar, as a demon, dared not take such a hit head-on.

As for Turalyon's holy sword, blessed countless times by the Light, Imonar certainly didn't want to test its sharpness against his own neck.

The demon technicians reluctantly fired cannons at the location Imonar had marked. They didn't understand why Imonar would give such a wasteful order when that direction was clearly an unreachable blind spot.

Their artillery support was already quite scarce, with large armies outside relying on fel cannons to relieve pressure, yet now they had to turn to help Imonar, who was deep within enemy lines.

Imonar was naturally not throwing an impotent tantrum out of desperation; since he had called for artillery support, he had a way to deploy that firepower onto his battlefield.

As the cannon fire rained down densely, the space near the impact points was distorted by magic, forming a huge void. Imonar tore open the space in front of him, his smile becoming sickly and fanatical.

"Let them taste these!"

"No good!"

Khadgar was the first to sense the change in the spatial magic and the potential danger that was coming.

He unhesitatingly cast a magical barrier, attempting to block this wave of artillery, and at the same time, he sent an order to the mages still stationed in the camp.

The mages who received Khadgar's command immediately began casting the same spell. Large amounts of Arcane energy began to condense into water elementals. Under the stabilization of magic, countless water elementals were summoned by the mages and placed at the forefront of the incoming artillery.

Under the mages' command, they sprayed water streams and ice walls, erecting a physical barrier in front of the camp to isolate heat and explosions. The weakened artillery fire was then blocked by Khadgar's magical shield.

The dense artillery fire almost filled everyone's vision. Their eyes were covered by green fire, unable to see anything else, and even Imonar's figure became blurred in the flames.

"Khadgar, do something, that demon is getting away!"

Alleria, relying on her keen eyesight, noticed Imonar's movement. After using artillery fire to delay the Alliance, Imonar slipped away, intending to seize the opportunity to escape.

She naturally didn't want to let Imonar escape like this. Such a cunning demon bounty hunter, if left alive, would certainly cause endless trouble in the future.

However, Khadgar, beside her, was using all his strength and focus to block the artillery fire. The Arcane barrier rippled continuously under the fierce bombardment, and Khadgar could only barely reply, "I... now, can't... concentrate."

Understanding that Khadgar had no strength left to support her, Alleria gritted her teeth, preparing to break through the barrage of fire that could reduce a person to ashes with just a graze. Her fair skin gradually took on the purple hue of the Void, and almost in an instant, Alleria's body was completely enveloped by Void Power.

But just as she was about to rush out of the barrage, a large hand pulled Alleria back, and with just a touch, both Alleria and the other person felt an electric sting.

At this moment, without needing to look back, Alleria knew exactly who had stopped her.

Turalyon shook his head at Alleria, "Alleria, it's too dangerous."

"We can't let that scoundrel live. If such a demon escapes, who knows how many sacrifices we'll have to make to catch him again."

Alleria was equally insistent on her opinion; she would not let such a demon continue to roam free.

Turalyon struggled internally. Alleria's firm tone and resolute expression had made everything clear. Finally, after a very brief attempt to dissuade her, Turalyon made his decision.

"If there's danger, retreat immediately—promise me, Alleria, I cannot lose you again."

Alleria pursed her lips and nodded. Immediately after, her body was swallowed by the Void vortex that appeared behind her.

The artillery fire also began to gradually weaken shortly after Alleria left, indicating that the rift left by Imonar was starting to close.

As the last burst of fel fire shattered the ice wall erected by the water elementals, stirring up a large amount of mist, Khadgar watched the commotion subside, let out a sigh of relief, and slumped to the ground, panting heavily.

"Phew... that really was... phew... a lot of work."

Turalyon extended a hand to the sweating Khadgar. With Turalyon's support, Khadgar managed to stand up. He forced his legs not to wobble, but in the end, he still relied on Turalyon to stand steadily.

"Are you alright?" Turalyon couldn't help but worry, seeing him like this.

"I'm fine, just a bit exhausted. You know, these large defensive barriers that require continuous casting are incredibly tiring every time they're used."

Khadgar sighed. There was nothing he could do about it. Generally, such spells would be prepared in advance with mana crystals and magic circles, maintained by fixed Arcane emitters. Otherwise, relying purely on human effort would truly be deadly.

"I hope Alleria is alright. Although that demon is injured, he's not that easy to deal with."
