Chapter 1 - Prologue - The world is filled with lies

The bells started ringing as I pushed the door to the library. As I fully open the door and enter, this place as always gives a filling smell of paper, the pleasant kind of smell you'd expect from a new book. I walk in and the door closes behind my back and the bell as always rings again indicating the door closed.

I looked at the librarian's desk but the seat was empty and a book was lying on the desk. It had a rat's drawing engraved with weird symbols I had never seen before. There was only one line that I could understand written on the cover of the book of unknown symbols. It appears to be "The Land Of The Truth". I think to myself, "The Land Of The Truth, huh? So there are books related to them? I thought it was only a spoken Legend". Whatever it was written in that book, I don't have the energy to waste on it. I came to read books and not decipher weird symbols.

I leave the book where it was and set my gaze upon the book shelves and see the librarian stocking up books on the "New Books" row. When he finished stocking them up, I walked up to the shelves and decided to take a look at the newly added books.

I glance through the stock the librarian added. A book caught my attention as I started to feel a sense of heightened awareness. The librarian started to speak as I snapped my vision towards him, "That book? You have good eyes. You can take it with you for free if you want." He was covering his mouth with the same book that was on the desk with his left hand and his right hand was behind him while he said those lines. His behavior seemed like a butler in a way but not a butler at the same time.

He then walked to his desk without paying any attention to me. I ignored that man as I do with everyone and tried to take a look at the book. It's titled "Evils and Pawns". "Interesting", I think to myself. I opened the book and found that there are no author details whatsoever and there's no table of contents. It's like you'd expect from a children's fantasy book. I started to read the book.

The book seems to serve a story of a great war that took place several hundred years ago. "The evils of the world need to be rid of. Otherwise the world will not be the same as it is. Nobody will know what it was like. They are planning something great, something truly evil. If they succeed, our history will change." These are some lines to be feared of. Not that it's real. Even if it was real, I don't want to have anything with it.

I leave the book on the shelf where it belongs and start to get out of the library as it's already been two hours. Reading that book made me think, "What if our whole history was twisted? I wouldn't be surprised if it was. I know very well how this world is". Weird thoughts started forming in my mind when I noticed the librarian was going in looking somewhat excited. I didn't pay much attention to it as people doing jobs are always in a hurry. I look back and exit the library.

Getting out of the library, I am met with the familiar market. It's really big and filled with people. This is the capital city of the world after all. I walk towards a convenience store which has good food for my taste. There were two "Capital Guards" standing outside and gossiping about something. It seemed to make them angry and so I got curious.

I quickly and swiftly entered the store and bought some bread. After the transaction was completed, I ran out sneakily. Then I slowly went towards the guards so they kept on gossiping while not noticing me. "These damn RATS are everywhere. They are making our work more difficult than it needs to be. Why can't the government just get rid of them?", "Yeah, those bastards are making my head explode with the burden of patience. By the way, you heard the news of the brats that made a 'Transport Device'?", "Yeah. Serves them right for not understanding how things work. If they want to travel the sea, they should've just killed themselves anyway and go visit it in the afterlife. Why would you go to a non-existing place?", "Yeah, 'Water transport!' What a joke. They think they can do the impossible. Now they know not to mess with the unknown".

This conversation that they are having about people dying doesn't make me excited. It's to be expected. I lost my parents to those damn bastards too. The government kills everyone that tries to travel the sea. They killed my parents right in front of me. I was hiding so I was able to run and save my life. I was a child so I couldn't do much beside crying and running. "What were they thinking when they said they were going to travel the sea??? What could I have done to stop them anyway? You shouldn't have gone, mom and dad!", I thought to myself. They will pay the price of their deed. Nobody knows that the government is preventing the exploration of the sea. They are hiding something in the sea. Otherwise, there is no explanation to all the hundreds of people's death always being an "Accident" whenever they test a new transport device.

I slowly walk away from the guards. They didn't notice me. I start walking towards home as it's getting pretty late. When the night falls, I will meet with a friend who will relay information. I walked to my home laying low. I opened my door while being very observant about my surroundings. It seems that nothing is suspicious. I walk in and close the door pretty quickly while trying my best to not make any noise.

Knock, a knock was heard behind me. I slowly turned back to the door I just closed and waited for any continuation. Knock KnockKnock, The first knock followed with three knocks. Knock, It again followed by a single knock. Confirming the knock code we set was given, I was relieved. I slowly open the door and find a man with a black top-hat standing in front. It was Steve. "May I enter? It's risky out here", saying that he entered without my permission. He didn't even let me utter a word of approval. I didn't take that in a bad way and quickly closed the door behind us.

To my surprise, he was already in my living room. I walk up the hallway to my room and see him standing while his left hand is holding a cane and the right hand has the papers. He has a big smirk on his face while standing with his legs crossed. "The World Is Filled With Lies", he spoke in a poetic voice. "If you start to mingle with the unknown, be prepared to put your life on the line for these details I'm about to share are the start of a NewYou. The old you would become A Lie."
