Chapter 4 - The Prophecy of Black Flames

Shiv studied Wong for a long moment, fingers steepled under his chin.

The office was so silent that Wong could hear the faint crackle from the oil lamp on the desk.

Finally, the principal spoke.

"What happened in that dungeon wasn't an accident."

Wong kept his eyes on him. "You're talking about the assassin?"

Shiv's brows drew together.

"That assassin wasn't after your team. He was after you."

---

Wong felt a faint prickle run down his spine.

"Why?"

Shiv leaned back, exhaling slowly.

"You've probably guessed by now… your class — Necromancer — is more than just rare. In our world's history, only thirteen true Necromancers have ever awakened. All of them… changed the world in ways that terrified the rest of us."

He rose from his chair and crossed the room to a tall bookshelf.

The wood creaked as he pulled out a massive, dust-covered tome bound in cracked black leather.

When Shiv laid it open on the desk, Wong leaned forward.

The page showed a robed figure wreathed in black flames, standing over a battlefield littered with corpses — an army of the dead kneeling before him.

---

Shiv's voice was low but firm.

"Five hundred years ago, the Oracle of Drak'Nir gave a prophecy."

He turned the book so Wong could read the inked script.

It was written in the curling, ancient glyphs of the old empire, but beneath it someone had scrawled a rough translation:

> When the Four Moons align and the Black Flame rises,

the Gate of Endings will open.

The Child of Bone shall command the dead,

and the living will follow — or perish.

---

Wong read the words twice, feeling a strange chill even though the air was warm.

"You're saying I'm the 'Child of Bone'?"

Shiv didn't answer directly. Instead, he closed the book with a heavy thud.

"Your awakening matches the prophecy too closely to ignore. And the man who attacked you yesterday? He works for a group called the Veil of Purity — a cult that believes all Necromancers must be erased to protect humanity."

Wong's jaw tightened. "And you're telling me this now?"

"Because," Shiv said, his tone sharpening, "you weren't ready before. But there's something else… something I never thought I'd see again."

---

From a drawer, he withdrew a worn silver pendant shaped like a teardrop.

Its surface was etched with the same magic circle that had burned into the air during Wong's awakening.

Shiv set it gently on the desk.

"This belonged to your sister."

Wong's breath caught. "…My sister? She's alive?"

Shiv nodded slowly.

"Yes. She's not just alive — she's the other half of the prophecy. The 'Keeper of the Gate.' If the Veil finds her first… you will never see her again."

---

Before Wong could form a reply, the office door burst open.

It was Nill, his face pale and voice urgent.

"Principal, we have a problem — the Veil of Purity just attacked the South Gate. They're not just here for Wong anymore… they're here for the girl."

Shiv's eyes darkened.

"Then we move now."
