Chapter 45 - Explosive Ordonance

After ten cannon shells, the entire combat strength of The Saviour Camp had been largely destroyed, leaving nothing left for the overseers to do.

Actually, Corax had misjudged these overseers. When this equipment was taken out, the garrison of the High Tower had already conducted a detailed inspection, maintaining everything from the rifling of the cannon barrels to the hydraulic systems. The ammunition had also been checked, as the High Tower's army didn't expect these overseers to possess such professional capabilities.

"Since that's the case, let's tamper with these shells," Corax decided after a moment of thought.

Invisible shadow power transformed into a dark hand, climbing onto the tail of a shell. The shadow power twisted the tail fin and rotated it dozens of times clockwise, quickly disassembling it. Corax carefully removed the high-energy detonator from the mortar shell.

"Extremely powerful, but not complicated," Corax smiled with satisfaction, looking at the detonator, which was as thick as a child's arm.

Silently, Corax removed all the detonators following the same procedure, and at the same time, inscribed a psychic array on these shells. The effect was simple: to make people subconsciously ignore the problems with these shells.

"Mission accomplished, retreat," Corax began to withdraw after achieving his objective for this trip. If Agamemnus launched a surprise attack, when the shells were loaded into the heavy mortars, the expressions on the faces of those overseers would surely be very entertaining. It's not easy to extract a shell from a 3.5-ton behemoth. With the quality of those overseers, Corax wasn't looking down on them, but they wouldn't even be able to handle it. Not peeing their pants would mean their mental fortitude was exceptionally strong.

Moving stealthily in the shadows, he quietly left the area. Corax had completed his mission. It was time to return to The Saviour Camp and prepare to completely end the miners' dark days!

"It's truly detailed. With such thorough intelligence, it's no wonder Corax led the miners to sweep away the High Tower's rule so easily," Swain remarked, looking at the massive operational map hanging on the conference room wall. The dense annotations of various routes and the number of overseers were as clear as if he had X-ray vision.

"Swain, the leaders of all the camps have arrived. Corax sent word that he is on his way back," Nekser reminded Swain from the side.

"Let everyone come in. Corax will be on time," Swain had never doubted the accuracy of a Primarch, an almost non-human existence, in such matters.

Creak—, a prolonged friction sound, like a wooden axle turning dryly, mixed with the "shushing" sound of stone meeting the ground; as the door was slowly pushed open, the heavy stone door, with its weighty texture, was opened. Shadow Assassin members led the main leaders of several camps into the conference room, which instantly became crowded.

"Everyone, please sit down and rest for a while. Corax is already on his way," Swain saw the dusty faces of the group and was not in a hurry. Instead, he had people pour tea and bring some food for everyone to replenish their energy.

"Then thank you, Swain," Giovanni was not at all polite, directly picking up the water cup on the stone table and drinking it all in one gulp.

Gulp, gulp...

As the sound of drinking water echoed, others also picked up their cups and drank heartily.

"Ha... the conditions here at boss Swain's place are really great," after replenishing the various energies consumed by their bodies, everyone let out a long sigh of relief.

The people present did not speak much, and the atmosphere in the conference room gradually grew solemn, with a chilling aura slowly enveloping the space.

"Alright, everyone has rested enough. Next, we just need to make one more push, and we can completely bid farewell to the past," Swain saw that everyone had rested sufficiently and began to get to the point.

"No more nonsense. Corax has already given you detailed intelligence. The Dark Raven Guard is also ready. The day after tomorrow, at the first bell, act to eliminate all overseers on your respective camp's patrol routes."

"Before the second bell rings, you need to bring the captured equipment to the designated location, even if you run your legs off, even if you die running, you must deliver it!"

"Corax, the shadow assassins, and I will infiltrate the High Tower in advance. We will act simultaneously when the bell rings. As for what happens outside, that's up to you," Swain didn't understand grand speeches. There were already very detailed mission directives and intelligence support, so he directly got to the point and began to assign their respective tasks.

Undoubtedly, the most difficult part was taken on by The Saviour Camp. The forces led by Swain and Corax would face the regular army stationed in the High Tower, not those overseers outside who only knew how to scare people with whips. Only by combining efforts inside and out, acting simultaneously, could the High Tower's command system be thrown into chaos. Otherwise, no matter how good the results achieved by the miners outside, it would only delay their ultimate failure.

"Fellow companions, this will be the most crucial battle that will determine the future of all our brothers and sisters. If we succeed, Lycaeus will be our own home. The consequences of failure are something none of us can bear, but please rest assured, no matter what, I, Swain, and everyone in The Saviour Camp will lead the charge!!" Corax's firm voice also came from the open doorway. This time, he did not appear silently in the conference room as usual.

"Swain, Corax, everyone knows this. Anyway, we're all working with our lives on the line. Rather than mining until we die here, let's just go for it! Everyone has had this realization from the beginning," Alundi, the commander of the Dark Raven Guard, said to the two with very determined eyes. As an elder who had followed Swain for the longest time, and an excellent commander of special operations in the army on Kiavahr, his words represented the heartfelt sentiments of that class who had been exiled from Kiavahr.

"Everyone, go forth and do your best. Although our reserves of medicine are not extensive, the logistics and medical departments will do their utmost to treat our injured brothers and sisters," Ephrenia represented the attitude of the native miners of Lycaeus. These native miners had naturally reproduced over many centuries and were also the most tragic group. They had never even seen the scenery outside Lycaeus in their entire lives; their companions were only the endless stones to be dug, the constant threat of collapses, and the persecution from the overseers.

"We hope that Lord Corax and Lord Swain will honor our agreement. We will wash away the sins on our bodies with blood!" Scarface, whose face was almost entirely covered in scars, represented the most wicked criminals from the Western District. They would be the first wave of suicide squads. As long as they achieved the first victory, all their past would be washed clean.
