Chapter 20 - Reaper

The enemies, who had hastily aimed their laser guns at the open ground, immediately let out a series of miserable cries of pain.

"Charge in!" Swain threw away the longbow that had broken from being used too forcefully, drew a short sword from his waist, and transformed into a black shadow, charging forward.

Corax, holding his bow, followed closely beside Swain, occasionally drawing his bow to shoot down enemies who rushed out of the mine tunnels, attempting to pick up the laser guns that had fallen to the ground.

Only now did Swain truly grasp the terror of Corax. With every arrow, under Corax's full power, the ancient cold weapon of the bow and arrow wielded a force comparable to the firearms on Lycaeus. Each arrow could even pierce through two enemies, and the powerful kinetic energy directly caused a terrifying effect similar to a dum-dum bullet, with the arrow's impact point tearing open flesh to form a huge wound.

At the same time, Swain also discovered the secret to why Corax's bow didn't break: a black shadow force was attached to the longbow, ensuring that the bowstring or the bow itself wouldn't snap.

"Psionic power is truly good!" Swain could only exclaim.

The distance of a hundred meters was covered in just a few seconds under Swain's full burst. Following closely, the Shadow Assassin members behind him also picked up the five laser guns that had fallen to the ground.

"No one's coming out anymore. It seems they've given up on this exit and plan to hunker down inside, or escape through other mine tunnels." Swain knew their intentions when no one else emerged.

"Nekser, take your men and go around to check and block the other mine tunnels. A rat has entered the hole; it can't be allowed to escape!" Swain instructed while switching to a hand crossbow. In the narrow mine tunnel, a longbow was very cumbersome to use, while a hand crossbow was very effective in both size and lethality.

"Swain, actually, just let them find the passages and guard them. We can just charge in ourselves." Corax walked to the very front of the entrance, and at the same time, a black psionic shield enveloped the front.

"Heh, indeed. Nekser, have your men block the paths. We'll go catch the rats!" Swain looked at Corax with great satisfaction and said with a smile. Psionic power, this almost universal force, is truly amazing. It can be used for offense, defense, and even healing. Especially this one, who will be the Crow King capable of soaring freely in the Warp ten thousand years from now, even though Corax's psionic power isn't very strong yet.

But then again, the opponents only have a few laser guns; they're not making Corax face heavy logging guns, plasma weapons, or melta weapons.

"Give me a laser gun." Swain opened the safety on the laser gun with a sinister grin, adapted to the performance of this short-barreled laser gun, and test-fired two shots before walking into the depths of the mine tunnel, which concealed countless sins.

Deep in the mine tunnel, the Cracked Skull Breakers were in chaos.

"Swain, it's bad! The people guarding the mine entrance have also been eliminated..." The short man said to Heuster with a panicked expression. The speed of their advance had truly scared him. How long had it been since the second outpost lost contact? Now, there was no movement at the most heavily guarded main gate. Dozens of people were stationed there, guarded by five laser guns. Even if they were killing dozens of pigs, it wouldn't be that fast.

This time, they had kicked an iron plate.

"What are you panicking about? We still have fifteen laser guns, and we know the mine tunnel environment better than them. Follow me!" Heuster waved his hand and led his personal guards towards the outside of the mine tunnel.

"Swain, wait for me..." The short thug said he wanted Heuster to wait for him, but his steps actually slowed by a beat.

"Run! Run quickly! The demons are here! Undying demons..." Just as Heuster was leading his men out, the other Cracked Skull Breakers had already lost their courage and were desperately fleeing deeper into the mine. Whether it was their laser guns or crossbows, when they shot at the enemy, they were all blocked by a black shield. Conversely, the enemy's laser guns were hitting headshots with every burst.

These thugs, who only knew how to bully the weak, were initially furious when they saw these silent reapers blowing off their companions' heads one by one with each shot. But when the intensely hot blood clots and blood, scorched by concentrated laser fire, splattered on their faces, their morale finally collapsed at that moment.

"No retreat! Push them back!" Heuster shot the guy running at the very front, sending him to the High Heavens.

"Run! The boss has gone mad!" Someone shouted, and then a group of routed soldiers fled desperately into the labyrinthine mine tunnels.

"Useless! A bunch of useless trash! When I kill these invaders, I'll throw all of you to the vultures!!!"

"Find good positions! These enemies are not simple!" Heuster quickly ordered his subordinates to find ambush positions in this interconnected passage. The defensive points above had fallen too quickly, which meant he only had his personal guards' ten laser guns left; all the others had been lost.

"Cut all the wires!" Heuster had a flash of inspiration and immediately thought of a good plan. As the criminals acted, the already dim mine tunnel instantly plunged into complete darkness. In the foul air, only the faint sounds of human breathing remained.

"Hey, Corax, are they looking down on you?" A playful, teasing voice suddenly echoed in the darkness. Playing this game in front of the Lord of Shadows? This was enough to make Swain burst out laughing. If it weren't for Corax, Swain would have chosen to slowly wear down the opponent for a few days and have some fun with them, but now with Corax here, he could completely act as a hands-off boss.

"Corax, I'm giving you a task. The rest is up to you." Swain issued his command coldly. At this point, there was no need to risk casualties to eliminate these villains. Anyway, these would all be Corax's future subordinates. Let the capable do more.

"Alright, Swain, after this is over, you have to explain to me. I always feel like you understand my abilities better than I do." Corax reluctantly made his request. From the moment he landed on this planet, the other party preferred to blow up the entire mine tunnel and the precious drill tractor just to cover his tracks, but the subsequent series of actions all proved the extraordinary nature of his seemingly ordinary boss.

"Hurry up and go. What explanation? I'm just guessing..." Swain's words almost made Corax, who was already preparing to act, stumble. The figure that had already slipped into the darkness almost fell out.
