Chapter 43 - Chapter 43 Soul That Much Close

Boiling a frog in warm water.

The girl's evasiveness; if it hadn't been for that day, she might not have known to open this door.

No matter what, he wanted this person.

Jiang Sui rubbed it open, broke it down, and analyzed every word.

A youthful and reckless young gentleman.

Su Qing's mind buzzed as if it had exploded. Jiang Sui rubbed his brow, not knowing how much of Su Qing's words he had taken in.

Jiang Sui squinted his eyes and said nothing until someone outside the car knocked on the window. Only then did he give the person the keys.

The middle-aged man respectfully addressed him as "Young Master." Jiang Sui nodded and said, "Let's go to the hospital."

Su Qing leaned back in a recliner, still in her pajamas, her face flushed and with bite marks on the corners of her mouth. She stayed away from Jiang Sui, their heads separated in the spacious car.

"Uncle Chai, someone said there's surveillance in our hotel. Go back and investigate which jerk is responsible for this illegal activity."

The young man gritted his teeth, his back protruding. His limp hand was merely a tickle, but Jiang Sui's heart was ablaze with rage.

He felt as if he'd crush the girl to pieces to vent his anger.

Listening to Jiang Sui's words, Su Qing slowly turned her head and looked at him. Her fingers trembled slightly, and she barely caught what Jiang Sui said in her mind.

She felt only shame, indignation, discomfort, and weakness.

She felt mortified and didn't know how to bow her head.

All the way to the hospital, she didn't resist or speak. She simply clutched at her clothes, her pajamas resting against her head, and remained silent.

It didn't seem like the hospital Jiang Sui had taken her to was any ordinary one, more like a private one.

The doctor examined her, prescribed some medicine, explained some precautions, put her on an IV drip, and left. The room was spacious, bright, and quiet.

She lay on bed.

Jiang Sui sat beside her. Although she hadn't hit him hard, her nails had scratched a faint red mark on the boy's handsome jaw.

She felt like she'd been the one to suffer, having been kissed...

So, hitting him wasn't a big deal...

Still, the guilt in her heart made Su Qing clutch the sheets beneath her. She never had the courage to meet those cold eyes, and could only stare at them.

"Why are you taking a cold shower?"

The boy finally lost his composure and stared at her.

"Because it's hot."

Su Qing licked her dry lips and offered a reason that no one would believe. She turned her head away, no longer looking at Jiang Sui.

"Okay, I'll wait until you're willing to tell me the truth."

The boy seemed deflated, unsure whether to be angry, amused, or worried. Yet, his heart seemed filled with light, his calm, clear eyes fixed on Su Qing.

"Su Qing, we've been classmates and served together. This is a rare blessing."

"Do you trust me? I can protect you."

"Don't dwell on the past, focus only on the future."

The boy's voice was as if polished by sand. His handsome, young face shone with warmth, uninhibited and unruly, like a god.

Su Qing nodded, as if compelled by a strange force.

She couldn't help herself.

Even her eyes, unlike the cold and silent ones she'd imagined, were instantly tinged with passion and warmth.

She said what she wanted most in her heart.

"Jiang Sui, I want to study law. What about you?"

Years later, Su Qing still remembered the word the boy had uttered that day.

"Police."

In an instant, their souls were drawn so close together under the sunlight.

In the end, what caused them to drift apart..
