2039, Earth.
After many years of development in artificial intelligence technology, humanity had finally managed to create a new generation of this practical everyday tool.
The AI assistance chip.
The most widespread rumor online in various forums and other platforms suggested that this revolutionary invention worked by being integrated into a person's DNA.
This feat allowed the AI chip to merge perfectly with its host, thus enabling maximum use of its user's physical and mental capabilities.
All the assistance functionalities of the AI chip were designed to help its user in all facets of their life, whether related to work, school, or entertainment.
Of course, the creators of the AI chip had thought about the worst possible scenarios for users.
Such as: the chip becoming too intelligent, taking control of its host, or developing some form of consciousness.
That's why the first generation of chips didn't have overly powerful artificial intelligence, but only basic functions.
There were: information storage, data analysis, simulation creation through gathered information, and data transfer to the chip's host.
All this might seem simple and rudimentary by cutting-edge artificial intelligence standards, but it remained a revolution in the field of artificial intelligence and in the lifestyle of an ordinary human.
The AI chip was capable of accomplishing tasks requiring considerable data processing and, thus, assisting the user in complex tasks, usually demanding for the mortal mind.
Especially since its greatest advantage was its mobility, as it would always be with you.
Scientists judged that it could single-handedly eliminate the need for long years of study in academic institutions.
That's how great the potential of this technology was.
Johan was one of the 10,000 lucky people worldwide who was selected as a first user of this technology still in the testing phase.
He received the AI assistance chip, which he had always dreamed of, after participating in an online contest.
The company exploring this technology needed funds and enormous amounts of data, so they somewhat chose a method that killed two birds with one stone.
They collected money through contests and data through users who had the "luck" of becoming testers.
Inside his house, Johan unwrapped the package that had made his online friends green with envy.
With a meticulous gesture, he removed the AI chip from the packaging.
"I knew it would have a unique appearance, but..."
In Johan's palm, there was an ordinary pill that anyone could find in a pharmacy.
Yet, the information in the box was clear.
He was indeed holding an AI chip in his palm.
Following the instructions in the user manual, which he found in the packaging with the pill, Johan swallowed the chip and lay flat on his bed, patiently waiting for the uniquely-appearing technology to be absorbed by his body.
The pill disintegrated in Johan's stomach, before slowly infiltrating his cells.
Finally, it penetrated deeper into his physiology before integrating into Johan's DNA and becoming part of his body.
The AI assistance chip had now become an essential element of his life, capable of enhancing all his senses and more, to help him.
Normally, any ordinary person would have finished reading the AI chip manual in detail before using it.
Unfortunately, Johan was too excited by the superhuman sensation brought by the chip in his body to worry about small details.
"W... what if I use this to improve my computer skills? Even better, accumulate several knowledge areas in just seconds."
The idea quickly took root in his mind, as Johan had always loved computing because of his unique social situation.
He had never had real friends outside of social networks and online video games.
It wasn't that Johan was shy or suffered from an illness, but he had never found people sharing his interests outside of the Internet.
This loneliness had pushed him to stay cloistered in his room with his computer to stay in contact with his "friends."
This situation had naturally led him to love computing, as this field allowed him to stay connected to the world.
Thus, Johan would commit the irreparable by connecting the AI chip to the Internet without following the procedure recommended by the instruction manual.
Johan wasn't aware of the mistake he was about to make, nor of the ascension of a certain Leylin Farlier in a nearby multiverse.
Both events unfolded at the same time.
[Connection in progress... 1%... 11%...]
[Connection established at 100%]
At that moment, Johan experienced unprecedented pleasure by diving into the world of data for a brief instant.
Unfortunately, alarming notifications quickly began to appear before him, without real explanation.
[E..error... connection with another E..error]
[Error.. Error... Error.. Error... Error.. Error...]
A few seconds after the AI chip connected to the Internet and to an unknown element, an immense amount of data engulfed Johan's consciousness and soul.
He didn't have enough time to deactivate his initial command because of the uninterrupted information in his mind, after the connection was established.
Johan was unable to feel the slightest sensation because of the quasi-infinite amount of information in his head.
This misfortune allowed him to escape the pain of feeling his brain fry, but he died from brain death.
Thus, Johan was found dead in the year 2039.
This death would greatly help the evolution of AI chip technology, but it would also be a form of warning for the scientists who created this technology.
The human mind clearly had limits in data processing, unlike ordinary AIs.
Yet, they never noticed the other supernatural factor linked to Johan's death, aside from the enormous amount of information on the Internet.
Is this a tragedy?
Maybe, but Johan himself would end up appreciating this event in an extremely distant future.
