Chapter 2 - Live Stream

The lights in the hospital bathroom were blindingly bright, and the white porcelain sink reflected a cold gleam.

Leaning against the wall, I shuffled forward slowly until the mirror before me revealed a woman so stunning she seemed unreal.

Her hair cascaded like silk, with soft, natural waves and ends dyed a gentle milk-tea brown that made her skin glow even brighter. That face—it was as if meticulously sculpted: sharp yet alluring eyes, a high nose bridge, and lips with a natural rosy tint. A smile that was eighty percent sweet and twenty percent seductive, capable of making hearts race with just a glance.

I reached up instinctively to touch my cheek. The skin was smooth, flawless—not a single pore, blackhead, or blemish in sight. It was as if I had a built-in beauty filter.

My gaze trailed downward—a waist so narrow it looked like it could be circled with one hand, a flat stomach without an ounce of fat, and legs so long and perfectly proportioned they belonged on a runway model.

How could anyone look like this?

Even with Photoshop, I wouldn't have dared to edit myself like this—and now it's just my face?!

"Nan Zhi?" Candy's voice called from outside the door.

I took a deep breath, steadied myself, and replied, "Come in."

Candy entered, carefully holding a cup of warm water, her expression tentative. "You seem… much better these past few days."

She continued cheerfully, "Before, you'd just stay locked in your room with the lights off, not talking to anyone. Sometimes you'd cry while scrolling through your phone and never tell us why. When I heard you jumped, I was terrified."

I froze for a second, then frowned. Had the original owner been dealing with heartbreak too? At least my death was an accident—did this woman really jump over some guy?But there was no point dwelling on it. Right now, the priority was recovering. I'd been given a second chance—health came first.

After a week in the hospital, the doctors cleared me to leave. My injuries weren't serious. During my stay, I'd learned that only a month had passed since my death in my previous life.

But barely two days after returning home, I was jolted awake by Candy.

"Nan Zhi, hurry up! The company's pushing for you to go live—they've been blowing up my phone!"

I rubbed my eyes groggily. "I just survived a fall from a building. Do they have no humanity?"

Candy winced. "They said… this is a rare opportunity. The rumors about your suicide attempt are trending, and gossip blogs are milking it for clicks."

I scoffed internally. Exploiting my "suicide" for clout? But Candy reminded me—I was under contract with Xingyue Entertainment. Refusing meant paying a hefty penalty. Reluctantly, I agreed.

At the company's studio, the staff deadpanned instructions: "Just greet the fans like usual and answer a few questions. Keep it simple."

Like usual?

Too bad I've never done this before.

The moment the live stream started, the screen exploded with comments and gift animations, flashing like fireworks.

[ZhiZhi! You're alive!]

[Were the suicide rumors true?!]

[Stay strong, Nan Zhi!]

Overwhelmed, I forced a smile. "Ah… I've been under a lot of stress lately, and the company kept pushing me to stream. I was distracted and… accidentally fell from the balcony."

The chat erupted.

[The company's exploiting her!]

[The rumors WERE true! Look how off she seems today!]

[Capitalism is evil! She almost died, and they're forcing her to work!]

[Someone call the police! Free Zhi from her contract!]

Off-camera, Candy paled, frantically gesturing for me to backtrack.

I scrambled to clarify, "No, no—the company treats me well! It really was just an accident—"

But the more I defended them, the angrier the comments became.

The staff's faces darkened. One mouthed, End it. Now.

I clutched my forehead dramatically. "Sorry, everyone. I'm still recovering, and I'm feeling dizzy again. Let's chat next time, okay? Bye!"

The second the stream cut, I exhaled hard. This new body isn't just beautiful—it's a magnet for trouble. One wrong sentence, and the internet explodes.

Glancing at the staff's stormy expressions, one thought crossed my mind:

Did I just make things worse?
