Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: The Mysterious Man

The sudden sound of Jason Kin's voice made Edward and Lisa whip their heads toward him, both faces twisting in shock and fear.

"You… you're fine? You're still alive? That's impossible!" they exclaimed in unison.

Jason Kin's eyes were cold, his expression brimming with killing intent. "Neither of you beasts are dead how could I possibly be?"

Lisa's panic spilled out in a rush. "Phils, it was all Edward's doing! I was forced into it! If I didn't do as he told me, he would've killed me. I had no choice! Think of how I took care of you when you were little. Please, spare your aunt! Give me the antidote, I don't want to die!"

After the brief shock of realizing Roland Phils wasn't dead, Lisa switched instantly to pleading for her life. If she didn't beg now, she was finished. The poison from her second brother was already in her veins, and without the antidote, her fate was sealed. If Jason Kin would just hand it over, there might still be a chance. She still thought of him as the "old" Phils—naive enough to let past ties sway him.

Jason Kin gave a laugh so cold it cut like glass. "You don't want to die? And my father was supposed to? You venomous snake. My father treated you so well, and you repaid him by killing him. Now you want me to let you go? Keep dreaming."

His killing intent sharpened as he strode straight up to Uncle Edward and stomped hard on the antidote pill lying on the floor, crushing it to paste.

"No!!" Edward and Lisa screamed in unison, their faces going pale with despair. Edward rounded on his remaining men, bellowing, "Kill this little bastard! Tear him into pieces for me!"

As he shouted, he dropped to the ground, actually trying to lick the crushed antidote from the floor. But before his tongue could touch it, a red beam of light shot past. In an instant, the powdered remains were scorched to black ash. His last hope was gone. That had been his only antidote. Without it, his only chance was to find the mysterious man who had given him the poison in the first place. But time was already running short—the poison was about to take hold. Where could he possibly find that man now?

"No… no, no! My antidote! My antidote!" Edward collapsed to his knees, scooping handfuls of the blackened ash into his mouth in a desperate attempt to purge the toxin. It was useless. His body convulsed with agony, the stump where his hand had been adding to his torment. Death would have been a mercy.

"You little bastard! I'll kill you! I'll kill you!" Frothing with rage, Edward slumped against the wall and pulled a pistol with his remaining hand, only for another laser beam to slice through the air and shear it off.

"Ahhh!" His scream had barely begun when Laffey's forehead cannon flared again, a single precise shot blasting his head apart. The ranting figure instantly became a headless corpse slumping to the floor.

Lisa's last shred of strength bled away as she stared at the scene, her eyes wide with horror. Never in her life had she imagined that the dainty, white-silk-wearing little girl at her nephew's side could be so terrifying, shooting lasers from her forehead like something out of a nightmare.

With Edward and his men dispatched in seconds, Laffey's gaze turned toward Lisa. "Don't kill her yet. She's still useful," Jason Kin said evenly. "Yes, Master," Laffey nodded, lowering her aim.

Lisa sagged to the floor, her voice faint. "Phils, you've always been such a kind boy… Auntie was wrong. I'll never dare again. Please, spare me…" The poison had already been eating at her for some time; without an antidote she wouldn't last much longer. Now all her hopes rested on Jason Kin. If he could survive a siege by so many armed men, he must have some extraordinary means—especially with this miraculous white-haired little girl at his side. Perhaps, just perhaps, he could save her.

Jason Kin crouched down in front of her, lips curling into a cold smile. "Now you realize you were wrong? Too late." He pressed a finger to her forehead. Lisa's memories flashed through his mind at lightning speed. In moments, he had seen everything he wanted to know. Reading memories was a basic power of all gods; even as a demigod, Jason Kin could use it, though it consumed a great deal of his mental strength. He rarely did so unless necessary.

From her memories, he saw not only her collusion with Edward, but also the image of a crucial figure: the mysterious man. It was because of this man that his two loved ones had been given poison that could mimic an accidental death. This mysterious man had supplied Edward with the toxin, but in Lisa's memories, he was always cloaked in black, his face never revealed.

Now that Jason Kin knew the truth, there was no reason to let the venomous woman live. The mysterious man could be dealt with later. He straightened slowly and said to Laffey, "You can do it now."

Lisa's pleas rose again, but she never finished the sentence. The ruby on Laffey's forehead lit first, a beam firing in the blink of an eye. Lisa's head and body parted cleanly, her death instant and absolute.
