Chapter 1 - The day I adopted Xiao Meng

Hi! I'm Huhu — a fennec fox with big, wide ears and soft, fluffy fur, blending cleverness with a touch of sass! If you think foxes survive only by being "sly," you're totally wrong. As a fennec fox living in a modern city, my main skills are—acting cute and adorable, while also beating up any bad guys who dare to bully my owner.

You might wonder, what exactly is a "fennec fox"? Simply put, my ears are so big they could be used as fans. They're super sensitive, able to hear you snoring, and even the sneaky sounds of the neighbor kid secretly hiding candy. Plus, my fur is soft and fluffy like cotton candy—anyone who sees me just wants to give me a little squeeze.

As for my personality—I'm clever and a bit sassy, mischievous yet warm-hearted, the classic "everyone loves me, flowers bloom when they see me" type.

Let me tell you about the first time I met Xiao Meng. It was a sunny afternoon, the leaves in the park were golden, and a gentle breeze carried a faint scent of autumn.

I hid behind a locust tree, quietly observing the girl sitting on the bench.

Her name was Xiao Meng, an ordinary twenty-five-year-old. She wore a light blue sweatshirt, her hair casually tied in a ponytail, a gentle smile on her face, and in her hand, she held a fragrant roasted sweet potato. She ate the sweet potato with such seriousness, as if it were the most delicious delicacy in the world.

I crouched behind the tree, my tail gently wagging, thinking to myself, "This creature doesn't seem to have any bad intentions, and she's carrying a sweet potato... Perfect! I'll pick her!"

Of course, I wouldn't just follow any master. I'm a discerning fox, and I had to make sure she was reliable, gentle, and caring enough to take care of me. After all, foxes have tempers, and I wasn't just anyone's baby.

Just as I was about to tentatively approach, Xiao Meng suddenly looked up at me.

"Oh, it's a little fox!" she exclaimed in delight, her eyes narrowing into crescents.

I shrugged, putting on a cool front, and slowly emerged from behind the tree, my wide ears perked straight up, my tail held high, trying my best to project a cool aura.

"Don't be afraid, I won't bite you, I'm just saying hello," I said with the cutest purr.

Xiao Meng smiled and pulled a small piece of roasted sweet potato from her bag, handing it to me.

My eyes lit up, and I took it without hesitation, gobbling it up. It was so sweet and sticky, it was like heavenly delicious.

The First Step in Friendship

After finishing the sweet potato, I tilted my head and looked at her. Although I couldn't speak, my eyes said it all—I'm willing to go with you.

"What's your name?" Xiao Meng squatted down curiously and asked softly.

I blinked and thought, "Call me Huhu! It sounds as free as the wind."

She seemed to guess what I was thinking, and her smile widened. "Huhu? Huhu, you'll be my little buddy from now on!"

From that day on, I officially became Xiao Meng's "soft and adorable bodyguard." During the day, I accompanied her shopping, cooking, and watching dramas, and at night, I counted stars and told her stories, my tail always wagging happily.

I learned to use my foxlike cleverness, helping her pick up dropped keys, alerting her to danger, and occasionally acting cute and coquettish in exchange for more snacks.

Sometimes, when she was tired after get off work, I would rub her legs to comfort her. Sometimes, when she was in a bad mood, I would nudge her with my furry head to make her laugh.

However, as a fennec fox, I'm no ordinary critter. I have a little secret—I can hear sounds others can't, sense scents others can't. I can even transform into a human form!

But I haven't told Xiao Meng about my transformation yet; she'll definitely be shocked.

These abilities have made me a secret guardian of the city's small animals. At night, I work part-time as a detective, helping my neighbors' cats and dogs solve their various "difficult cases."

But that's a story for another time...

With Xiao Meng by my side, I feel like this city is no longer cold; every corner is filled with warmth and color.

Her smile, as bright as the sun, dispels all my doubts and anxieties.

I know that our story has only just begun.
