Chapter 72 - Chapter 72 Teaching the Young Dragon to Speak Human Language

Looking at the Night Fury's disdainful gaze, Hiccup felt speechless for a moment and couldn't help but complain, "If it weren't for the fact that you don't speak Dragon Language, how could I possibly misunderstand you!"

The Night Fury, however, imitated Hiccup's usual mannerisms, shrugging its wings, as if to say, "Is it my fault then!"

Just as the man and the Dragon were exchanging glances, the Dragon egg in front of them trembled slightly. The Night Fury immediately jumped over and sniffed meticulously around the Dragon egg, like a husky!

Hiccup patted the Night Fury's neck and said, "Let's go!"

However, the Night Fury showed no intention of leaving; instead, it circled the Dragon egg.

Hiccup deeply suspected it wanted to eat it, and its current appearance was exactly like someone who wanted to eat but didn't know how to start.

"Crack~!"

Suddenly, a crack appeared on the Dragon egg, and then a Dragon claw emerged.

"Roar~!"

The Night Fury was startled and quickly hid behind Hiccup, but the more scared it was, the more it wanted to look, peeking through the gap beneath Hiccup's arm.

Hiccup said somewhat speechlessly, "You're a Dragon! You can't be a coward!"

As he spoke, the entire Dragon egg instantly shattered into pieces, with eggshells scattering all over the ground.

"Roar-aow~~~!"

The newly hatched Dragon let out a milky, childish Dragon roar.

Its gaze was fixed on Hiccup, as if it regarded Hiccup as its family.

After all, when these young Dragons first hatch, they will regard the first person they see as their family.

This young Dragon directly jumped into Hiccup's arms, then stared at Hiccup's face with its adorable big eyes, swaying left and right, as if to completely remember his appearance.

Hiccup picked up a piece of eggshell from the ground and placed it near the young Dragon's mouth, but the young Dragon seemed to dislike its own eggshell very much.

Seeing this, Hiccup couldn't help but murmur to himself, "Fairy tales lied to me! They clearly said that Dragons would eat their shells after hatching from the egg! Not only could it increase their strength, but it could also fill their newly born stomachs!"

The young Dragon's big, watery eyes stared at Hiccup, and then it opened its mouth wide.

"Roar-aow~~~!"

The young Dragon's roar wasn't too weak, just unclear in pronunciation, but its vocal system was good, and there was room for improvement.

At this moment, the entire small island suddenly began to shake slightly. Hiccup guessed that the Dragons must have returned.

Without time to think further, he directly picked up the young Dragon with one hand, sat on the Night Fury's back, and said, "Hurry!"

The Night Fury dared not linger too long and immediately took Hiccup to quickly escape the Dragon Nest.

As they ascended, they could see two Dragons heading towards the Dragon Nest. Coincidentally, as soon as they landed, they looked up and saw the Night Fury's figure.

And they accurately saw Hiccup holding a young Dragon, which was their offspring!

"Roar!"

The Dragon on the ground spat a fireball with all its might, but the Night Fury easily dodged it with a sideways glide.

The Dragons remaining on the island could only let out powerless roars, because they had already expended a lot of energy chasing Hiccup earlier, and they spared no effort when escaping.

So, when they returned and saw their offspring being taken away, they could only roar powerlessly on the small island.

Other Dragons on the island also landed one after another, and upon returning to the Dragon Nest, they found their Dragon eggs missing. After communicating with each other, they realized that Hiccup had stolen their eggs.

This group of Dragons sniffed the freshly broken eggshells on the ground, memorizing the scent, intending to seek revenge once their strength recovered.

By this time, Hiccup had already flown far away on the Night Fury, and the shadow of that small island was no longer visible on the sea level.

He had originally thought that this young Dragon, having just hatched, wouldn't be able to fly, but in the sky, it suddenly broke free from Hiccup's embrace, then flapped its weak wings and glided against the airflow.

It seemed that the Dragons' talents were innate, etched in their blood.

The Night Fury was afraid of losing the young Dragon, so it deliberately slowed down a bit, which made the young Dragon think its speed was faster than the Night Fury's, and it flapped its wings even harder.

Looking at this hardworking little fellow, the Night Fury grinned, letting its tongue hang out of its mouth, rapidly trembling against the airflow.

The young Dragon also imitated it perfectly, sticking out its tongue and rapidly trembling against the airflow.

Seeing how quickly it learned, the Night Fury directly opened its mouth and spat out a blue-purple fireball, and the young Dragon also opened its mouth and spat out a fist-sized fireball.

Just as the young Dragon was having a blast spitting fireballs, it suddenly stopped flapping its wings and fell straight down.

It seemed that this newly hatched young Dragon had no idea of its limits, nor how to conserve energy, only knowing that spitting fireballs was fun, and in the end, it fell powerlessly towards the sea.

The Night Fury looked at the young Dragon somewhat helplessly, then dove down. Hiccup directly reached out and caught the young Dragon, and the young Dragon's expression changed remarkably, from initial fright to delight when it was caught.

Then it bounced around in Hiccup's arms, continuously letting out milky Dragon roars.

Hiccup looked at the young Dragon in his arms, his eyes darting around slightly, and then he said in human language, "Good morning!"

The young Dragon blinked its big eyes, staring at Hiccup with great confusion, not understanding what he meant.

Hiccup translated it into Dragon Language, and then taught it to speak human language, repeating the pronunciation of "Good morning" again.

"Goo' mornin'~~~"

Listening to the young Dragon in his arms utter a very clumsy sound, Hiccup was instantly surprised and said, "It can really speak!"

The Night Fury, however, looked at Hiccup as if he were an idiot, not understanding why he wanted to teach the young Dragon human language.

Hiccup looked at the Night Fury's disdainful gaze and knew that if he tried to teach the Night Fury human language, the Night Fury would definitely refuse to learn, even if it meant death.

What's more, besides roaring, it really couldn't speak a single word of Dragon Language. It was like the mute of the Dragon race! But Hiccup believed it was only because the Night Fury was still young that it hadn't learned to speak yet.

Along the way, Hiccup taught the young Dragon one word whenever he thought of one.

The innocent young Dragon was a bit disgusted at first, as this pronunciation made it very uncomfortable, but after learning for a while, it saw Hiccup's smiles becoming more frequent.

So the young Dragon learned even more diligently, seemingly just to earn Hiccup's smile, only hoping that Hiccup would pet its forehead more often.
