"Well, that was a big help. Thanks."
"Words of thanks are nice, but isn't there something in return?"
"What's the deal? You can create anything, so why do you need anything in return?"
"It's a matter of feeling. Wouldn't you feel bad just taking without giving back?"
After a moment's thought, muttering "that's true," Liltotto replied to Gremmy's words.
"Alright. When we're fighting the Soul Reapers, if I see someone about to kill you, I'll go after them for you."
"If there's someone who could kill me, I don't think you'd be able to kill them," Gremmy said with extreme confidence in his own abilities.
"In that case, I'll just draw some aggro and run. I'm not going to risk my life for a bag of donuts. Our lives aren't that cheap," Liltotto said with a mischievous grin. Gremmy just shook his head, his usual smile in place.
"Honestly, this Knight Order, including His Majesty, is full of selfish people!"
"That's not a line I'd expect from a villain who was thrown in jail for being too willful. By the way, what do you plan to do after the war when you get your real freedom?"
"Hmm... I've never really thought about that," Gremmy pondered for a moment, then shrugged as if joking. "Maybe I'll try cooking. If I just mess around, I might create some unexpectedly interesting flavors."
"Just don't make something whose taste you can't imagine from its appearance. If you think 'this looks spicy,' even strawberry jam could turn into jalapeño sauce!" Liltotto retorted with words that were hard to tell if they were serious or a joke.
"I'll keep that in mind. Next time I make something, I'll imagine a high-calorie cake that will make you fat in one bite," Gremmy said with a chuckle.
"Well, I'll help you taste-test it. I'll be looking forward to it, you scummy bastard," Liltotto said, reaching into the bag for another donut.
As Bai Yuetong snapped out of his wild fantasies of freedom, he realized Liltotto had just planted another dozen flags on Gremmy. Looking at Gremmy now was like watching an old general on a stage, adorned with banners. He couldn't help but facepalm.
"What's wrong?" Liltotto noticed his strange behavior and asked.
"I was just thinking, why does Gremmy's true form have to be just a brain? Why can't he use his ability to create a real body for himself? He could follow the same method as Shaz Domino," Bai Yuetong said, for once being serious. "A life as just a brain in a jar isn't normal."
If possible, he hoped Gremmy could live. Although his Schrift's power meant the dead couldn't resist him, making dead people more beneficial to his interests, he felt a strange kinship.
This was a use of his ability that he had kept hidden. Because the dead could not resist the living, he could 'share' everything from a dead person, much like how Aaroniero's 'Glotonería' allowed him to devour dead Hollows and take their abilities and spiritual pressure as his own.
Even if the Quincy of the Wandenreich were harvested by Yhwach's Auswählen, as long as some residue remained and they weren't completely annihilated, Bai Yuetong could still share some benefits.
Especially a special organ like Gremmy's brain, which would still possess outstanding performance even after death.
It was a 'Quincy brain' capable of withstanding thousands upon thousands of souls and countless Soul King fragments, enduring a vortex of chaotic consciousness and spiritual pressure. For certain schemers and troublemakers, it was the ultimate processing unit.
However, with Liltotto as the bridge between them, Bai Yuetong and Gremmy did share a subtle friendship. It wasn't much, but at this moment, he genuinely didn't want Gremmy to die, which is why he couldn't help but offer the suggestion.
Shaz Domino was a fake 'V' created through an experiment with Gremmy's ability, 'The Viability', which allowed him to absorb surrounding Reishi to repair his body at an extraordinary rate. By replacing the imagined parts with actual Reishi with each repair, he obtained a physical body, and Yhwach granted him the temporary Schrift 'Σ' (Stigma).
Since Shaz's ability was created by Gremmy's imagination, this successful case could be directly replicated for Gremmy himself.
"A complete, physical body that doesn't rely on imagination to be maintained? There's no need. I am the strongest! I can kill any enemy just by 'thinking' it. I don't need a body for close-quarters combat," Gremmy first murmured, then found the idea amusing, and finally rejected it with extreme arrogance.
"Alright then."
Seeing this, Bai Yuetong said no more.
What could he say? He could only respect others' choices, let go of his desire to help, and avoid self-serving sentimentality.
Gremmy's arrogance was backed by capital, but the kid was just too inexperienced and underestimated the cheaters and mind games of the outside world.
Of course, Bai Yuetong wasn't angry at Gremmy's dismissiveness. If, in the future, he had the ability and happened to be nearby when Gremmy was in trouble, he would still lend a hand.
They were just ordinary friends, not father and son, not sworn brothers who would die for each other. As a friend, he could only offer suggestions, not tell others how to live their lives. Whether they listened was their business. His conscience was clear.
After this pointless conversation, Bai Yuetong and Liltotto parted ways with Gremmy.
On the way back, Liltotto suddenly asked, "Hey, stud horse, do you have some indecent thoughts about Gremmy?"
"How could you think that!" Bai Yuetong's face darkened, his fists clenched as if his honor had been slandered. This was a rare moment of him showing his conscience; how could she tarnish his genuine intentions!
"Are you telling me you're not envious of Gremmy's overpowered ability?" Liltotto sneered, squinting at him with the perfect expression of a smug little brat.
"Of course I'm envious, but that doesn't mean I'm sexually attracted to a brain!" Bai Yuetong felt his fists hardening. Taking a deep breath, he resisted the urge to body-slam her and instead gently pulled her down from his neck.
"It's precisely because Gremmy is just a brain that he can create any physical form he wants. If he created a beautiful, curvaceous female body, are you telling me you wouldn't get any ideas and get turned on?" Liltotto said, with a look that screamed, 'I see right through you.'
