The door had barely clicked shut behind Ethan when the room went unnervingly still. Three pairs of eyes locked on Emily.
"Who... was that?" The tall brunette by the window finally asked, her voice careful, like she was testing the air for danger.
Emily hesitated "I don't know. He didn't say his name."
For a second, no one spoke. Then the smallest of the three, a round–cheeked girl with big glasses suddenly shot upright on her bed, pointing at the door like it had just sprouted gold.
"WAIT. You're telling me you don't know who that was?"
Emily shook her head "No"
"THAT WAS ETHAN MONACO" the girl blurted out almost screaming.
Emily frowned, unsure that was supposed to mean something "And ?"
"And?!" The blonde–haired one leaned forward. "He's the most popular and mysterious guy on campus. Nobody sees him with a girl. Ever"
The girl by the window nodded "People say his family is... dangerous. Rich, powerful and not the kind you mess with"
Emily tried to hide her confusion "Well he was nice to me, helped me find the admin building and even bought me ice cream."
All the three girls stared at her like as if she had lunch with an angel.
"You had lunch with him? In public?" The blonde asked in disbelief.
Emily shifted awkwardly"Yes...?"
The girl with the glasses sighed like the world was ending "You have no idea what you've just done. Girls will be talking about this for weeks"
Emily didn't answer, she quietly placed her clothes in the small wardrobe, pretending not to notice their stares.
But inside, she remembered the way his voice ad sounded when he told her I'll see you around, flower
It didn't feel like a casual goodbye.
It felt like a ... promise.
