By the time they finally reached home, Miranda felt completely drained. The surge of adrenaline that had sustained her throughout the day had dissipated, leaving her feeling empty and trembling.
Nolan pushed the front door open, and they stepped into the sanctuary of their home. Today's events had permanently altered the course of their lives. She knew she needed to discuss her parents' business with Collins and Noelle. Untangling that mess would take considerable time. For now, though, she was simply grateful to be home.
"I need to shower," Miranda murmured, her voice barely audible, too exhausted to speak any louder.
"Same here," Nolan replied. His appearance matched her exhaustion—dark shadows beneath his eyes and tension visibly lingering in his shoulders. He'd been clearly disturbed by her confrontation with March. But circumstances had left them little alternative. Had they not apprehended March when they did, he would have undoubtedly sent someone else to target her.
