Cherreads

Chapter 5 - Bestiary Log #2

Name: Witherkin

Species Type: Minion

Threat Level: Low Individually – High in Hordes

Lore Entry:

"It clawed its way out of the corpse like it was borrowing a coat. Then it screamed, with my brother's voice."

– Survivor report from the Grey Trenches, District 7 Mass Grave

A failed whisper of life, the Witherkin is among the lowest breeds of minions, spawned not by design, but by excess, spillage, and ritual rot. These creatures fester in the grave-sludge left behind after larger horrors are born, congealing into malformed things that hunger for heat, flesh, and fear.

Often mistaken for corpses until they lurch to life, Witherkin serve as the detritus of a broken world, yet their weakness is deceptive. In swarms, they become a tide, gnashing, swarming, overwhelming even elite resistance forces. They're too dumb to fear and too cursed to die properly.

Most Gravebinders use them as bait or bloodhounds. The Throneless King? He does not see them. He forgets them, yet they remember his name in every twitch.

They possess:

Carrion Sense – Can detect bleeding or dying prey up to 300 meters away. The fresher the blood, the stronger the pull.Marrow Leech – Claws secrete a toxin that melts bone from within, causing tremors, spasms, and hallucinations.Echo Maw – Mimics the last sounds or voices of its victims to lure or confuse. Never quite right, always just wrong enough to chill the soul.Death Twitch – Upon death, unleashes a convulsive blast of corrupted blood mist, softening armour and weakening the stamina of those nearby.Horde Instinct – When one dies, nearby Witherkin become frenzied, more aggressive, and rapidly converge on the kill site.

Despite their twisted forms and twitching gait, the danger of a Witherkin lies not in its bite, but in the fact that where one shambles, dozens more follow.
