While the conversation on the platform burned with intensity, the battle on the arena floor had already begun.
Huo Yuhao's team of three was evenly matched against Dai Huabin's group of three. Wang Dong faced Dai Huabin, Huo Yuhao faced Cui Yajie, and Xiao Xiao took on Zhu Lu. Shockingly, none of them fell behind—each held their own in battle.
Zhu Ziyang finally got to witness the Radiant Butterfly Goddess, and he couldn't help but sigh in admiration. It truly deserved the title of one of the most beautiful beast-type martial souls. Behind Wang Dong, a pair of dazzling blue butterfly wings unfurled. The tips of the forewings shimmered with shifting shades of deep blue, sapphire, and sky blue. The entire surface glowed like a sky inlaid with brilliant halos, forming a V-shape that seemed to bring light into the world.
Its shape and coloration were stunning beyond comparison. The wings resembled white waves cresting on a vast azure sea. Their purple-blue patterns gleamed magnificently, shifting between dark blue, sapphire, and sky blue. The white runes etched on the wings looked like jewels embedded in them, radiating a brilliant luster—utterly mesmerizing.
Such resplendent wings truly lived up to the name of the most beautiful butterfly.
However, what caught Zhu Ziyang's attention even more were Wang Dong's spirit rings—one yellow and one purple! As expected of a descendant of the Clear Sky Clan, he was no ordinary soul master. His second ring was already a thousand-year ring. Aside from Zhu Ziyang himself, this was the first soul master he had seen with a second ring of such level.
Wang Dong clashed with Dai Huabin head-on, showing no signs of being suppressed. In fact, by using his ability to fly, he even managed to faintly suppress Dai Huabin, which greatly surprised Du Weilun, who had originally favored Dai Huabin's team.
Meanwhile, the fight between Xiao Xiao and Zhu Lu was a duel of equals. Zhu Lu was the legitimate daughter of the Zhu Clan of the Star Luo Empire and Dai Huabin's fiancée. Her martial soul was the Hell Spirit Cat—a classic agility-type soul master. However, despite having lower soul power, Xiao Xiao was a control-type soul master who perfectly countered agility types. Both her martial souls belonged to the control class, and her soul skills left Zhu Lu frustrated, unable to utilize her agility advantage.
As for Huo Yuhao and Cui Yajie, there was no suspense at all. As the son of destiny, how could Huo Yuhao possibly be suppressed? Cui Yajie's Nine-Tailed Fox was a mental-type martial soul, but facing Huo Yuhao, whose martial soul was purely spiritual in nature, she held no advantage beyond soul power. In Zhu Ziyang's view, Huo Yuhao merely had a glint in his eye, and Cui Yajie froze for a second. Her first soul ring flickered and then extinguished—a clear sign that her skill had been forcibly interrupted.
Zhu Ziyang's face showed curiosity. He wanted to know how Huo Yuhao had interrupted Cui Yajie's soul skill. Was it a soul skill of his own? If so, what kind?
Suddenly, the situation in the arena changed. Dai Huabin, in his clash with Wang Dong, suddenly retreated to dodge an attack, exposing Cui Yajie behind him. Wang Dong seized the opportunity and unleashed his second soul skill, launching an all-out attack toward both Dai Huabin and Cui Yajie. Realizing she couldn't dodge, Cui Yajie turned and targeted Huo Yuhao with her second soul skill, intending to take him down with her.
Just as the referee was about to intervene and rescue them both, Huo Yuhao dodged her attack using an extremely bizarre footwork, while Cui Yajie was safely rescued and removed from the field.
Dai Huabin's team had lost one member.
After forcibly withstanding Wang Dong's second soul skill, Dai Huabin was seething with rage. A proud Soul Elder like him had actually been suppressed by a mere Soul Grandmaster—something he could not accept. Enraged, he immediately released his third soul skill.
With White Tiger Vajra Transformation activated, Dai Huabin launched a two-on-one assault against Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong. Initially, with his explosive burst of power, he managed to threaten the two repeatedly. However, the coordination between Wang Dong and Huo Yuhao was flawless. After several counterattacks, they weathered Dai Huabin's storm and gradually reversed the situation, gaining the upper hand.
Once they gained control, Wang Dong used his second soul skill again. Blue laser-like energy burst from his butterfly wings and poured down on Dai Huabin. In a panic, Dai Huabin launched a hasty counterattack, releasing his second soul skill—White Tiger Fierce Light Wave—to clash against Wang Dong's strike.
One was a fully charged attack, the other a rushed defense. One from a Soul Grandmaster, one from a Soul Elder. The two powerful soul skills collided with a deafening roar. Wang Dong soared through the air, his wings unfurling to deflect the impact with ease. Dai Huabin, on the other hand, had a much harder time. His legs sank knee-deep into the ground, his upper body bent backward, and his body gleamed with golden light as the Vajra Transformation suffered a huge impact.
The tide of battle was now clear. Dai Huabin could not fight both at once, and Zhu Lu had no quick way to defeat Xiao Xiao. The battle was locked in a stalemate, but Huo Yuhao's team clearly had the advantage—three against two. As long as they dragged it out and depleted their enemies' soul power, victory was certain.
Dai Huabin launched several more counterattacks, but Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong, with their agile tactics, deflected them all. Not only did he fail to injure them, but he himself accumulated several more wounds. He finally realized he couldn't go on like this. No longer holding back, he roared, "If you have the guts, then fight me head-on!"
Wang Dong curled his lip in disdain and sneered, "Do you even know what tactics are? And you call yourself the White Tiger Duke's son? You don't even understand strategy—what a waste."
Fury flashed in Dai Huabin's eyes, but instead of attacking again, he made a move that baffled Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong—he canceled his Vajra Transformation and suddenly dashed toward Zhu Lu.
On the other side, Zhu Lu also gave up on fighting Xiao Xiao and ran toward Dai Huabin.
Their sudden actions confused the three from Huo Yuhao's team, but Zhu Ziyang in the stands already knew what they were planning.
"It's coming—the legendary symbol of the Star Luo Empire, the Netherworld White Tiger!" said Qian Duoduo and Cai Meier at the same time, both with serious expressions.
Although the White Tiger Dai Clan was no longer the imperial family of Star Luo Empire, the Netherworld White Tiger remained a recognized national totem. After all, the Dai Clan had ruled for nearly ten thousand years, and the Empire's golden era came under their leadership.
Watching the two approach each other, Huo Yuhao suddenly felt a wave of dread. He realized their intention and exclaimed, "They're going to use a Martial Soul Fusion Skill?"
Wang Dong and Xiao Xiao, who had regrouped with him, both wore grave expressions. They had encountered martial soul fusion skills before and knew how powerful such combinations could be.
As Dai Huabin and Zhu Lu embraced, a swirl of black and white energy flashed and vanished. In their place stood a massive white tiger over two meters tall and more than eight meters long. It was transparent, with white fur, black stripes, and purple twin pupils. Its cold gaze fixed on Huo Yuhao's team.
The Netherworld White Tiger released a terrifying aura as it pounced toward them. Faced with such unstoppable momentum, Huo Yuhao's team made a puzzling move that even the teachers in the stands couldn't comprehend.
Xiao Xiao stood alone in the tiger's path—her petite figure looking helpless and pitiful in front of the beast. Meanwhile, Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong embraced each other tightly, just like Dai Huabin and Zhu Lu had done moments earlier.
The scene drew chuckles. Were they trying to copy a Martial Soul Fusion Skill? As if such a thing was that easy to replicate—it was laughable.
The referee was ready to intervene at any moment.
Zhu Ziyang's eyes flickered. He seemed to see the outcome already. Beside him, a female teacher—the head of Class 1, Zhou Yi—smiled faintly.
After Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong embraced, to the shock of all the teachers, their figures vanished. In their place appeared a massive eye radiating blue, gold, and violet light. The moment the eye appeared, it fired a dazzling and terrifying beam of light directly at the tiger's claw.
Xiao Xiao stood right between two Martial Soul Fusion Skills.
Fortunately, the referee acted in time and pulled her from the stage. Had he hesitated, she would've been reduced to ash by the collision.
Cai Meier and Qian Duoduo couldn't sit still—they jumped to their feet in disbelief. Who could've imagined witnessing a clash between two Martial Soul Fusion Skills during the freshman assessment?
When the collision between the Netherworld White Tiger and the massive eye ended, the stage finally fell silent. Five figures became visible—an exhausted Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong, an equally drained Dai Huabin and Zhu Lu, and Du Weilun, who had blocked both fusion skills.
Du Weilun looked battered. Eight soul rings swirled around him, but his entire body gleamed gold, and five claw marks marred his back. The ground before him had a 30-meter-long, half-meter-deep trench glowing golden in the sunlight.
He was a mess, but he was also thrilled.
The outcome of the battle was crystal clear.
Everyone in the stands could see that if Du Weilun hadn't intervened to block the fusion skills, the match would've ended with two dead and two severely injured—Dai Huabin and Zhu Lu dead, Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong critically wounded.
The freshman assessment came to a close. For the first time in Shrek Academy's history, a champion team with only one-ringed soul masters had been born.
"Unbelievable. Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong could actually unleash a Martial Soul Fusion Skill!" Jiang Nannan exclaimed. "They didn't even know each other before, right? To develop such a close bond in just three months and form a Martial Soul Fusion—what a miracle."
As someone who also had a Martial Soul Fusion Skill, Jiang Nannan knew how difficult it was to achieve. She and Zhang Lexuan had known each other for over three years before they finally succeeded.
"Heh, indeed," Zhu Ziyang nodded in agreement, though his mind was still shaken by what Electrolux had just told him.
