Cherreads

Chapter 33 - Chapter 33 ...There are.

The next day, I went straight from Croana home to work at the school.

When he met Erika at the training grounds, she gave him a displeased look and sighed, and Felica shyly kissed him as they left the school.

Erika said she had something to talk about with Marika, so she headed to Flower Mist with the three adventurer girls.

So today I'm walking alone down the main street, lit by the sunset.

Suddenly, I saw a nun crouching by the side of the road.

The reason I knew she was a nun was because she was wearing the familiar navy blue habit.

I approached her and asked if she was feeling unwell or if she had been injured.

"Are you okay?"

The sister trembled in surprise at my voice and raised her face.

Her slender face gives off a pure and innocent vibe, but there are signs of crying and her eyes are dull.

Her hairstyle cannot be seen due to the sister veil, but it is clear that she has a rare silver hair color.

She spoke expressionlessly, her eyes lacking any light.

"God... doesn't exist..."

"...He's exist."

I immediately replied to the words muttered in a voice that sounded like a bell.

If you're asking whether he exists or not, then yes God does exist.

The basis? That's simple... myself.

Even though we are in different worlds, God has brought back to life a body that would have died at age 50.

It would be blasphemous to say that there is no God.

Perhaps surprised by my response, the light returned to the sister's eyes a little.

I kneel down, make eye contact as much as possible, and speak in a reassuring manner.

"I believe so. Can you please tell me the situation? We can't have a town where a nun cry, right?"

"...you?"

"I'm Reid, a combat instructor at the academy. I'm also the owner of Suzuya."

"I'm Meiya... Sister Meiya."

"Meiya, let's move to another location for now. Is it okay to go to Suzuya, which is close from here?"

She grabbed the hand I held out to her with her beautiful, slender hands and helped her to her feet.

She is about the same height as Felica, and stands with a straight back and a dignified appearance.

When asked to move to another location, Meiya shook her head sadly.

"The children are... hungry and waiting."

"...What does that mean?"

Meiya spoke bit by bit.

For some reason, subsidies to the church were stopped six months ago, and there is a shortage of food for the orphaned children.

We have already reached out to all the restaurants we asked for food, and today's food supply is not enough to feed everyone.

When I encountered such a situation, I began to doubt the existence of God.

...It seems like you haven't come to Suzuya yet?

"It seems you've never been to Suzuya?"

"...Where is it?"

"...yeah?"

Meiya tilted her head in a confused manner. I also tilted my head at her words.

That's strange, it should be fairly well-known among adventurers...

First, I start directing them to Suzuya, and along the way I explain where Suzuya is.

When Meiya heard this, she explained that she had thought it was only an inn and had not asked the adventurers because she was afraid.

...Well, adventurers generally look scary after all.

It was around 7pm. Without streetlights, it would be too dark to walk.

On a bright moonlit night, it might be possible to walk without streetlights, but no one would do that.

Even though the royal capital has good public order, it doesn't mean that there is no crime at all.

By the way, it's not like there aren't any soldiers patrolling.

This means that there are some sneaky, cunning, and bad people out there.

"Nobles who cut off subsidies are basically crazy."

"...Calm down, Erika."

"Can you stay calm?"

Walking the night road with me were Meiya-san and Erika, along with her three adventurer escorts.

After securing some food with Meiya at Suzuya, I met her in front of Erika's house on my way to the church.

After hearing the situation, Erika became angry. Instead of yelling, she expressed her disappointment and anger through her expression.

She was so angry that the three adventurers had to do their best to calm her down.

By the way, Meiya, who had regained sight in her eyes, was flustered by Erika's condition.

Erika says that the nobles who cut off subsidies are crazy, and I wholeheartedly agree.

It might not be discovered in a provincial city, but doing it in the royal capital is crazy.

There's no way they wouldn't find out. This is the city where the prime minister and the king live, right?

All I can say is that he's crazy.

Following Meiya's guidance, we walked down 6th Street towards the city walls, and just as we were about to reach the walls, Meiya called out.

"That's our church."

"Again....that's impressive."

"...Taking aim at a church of this scale is truly crazy."

"What's up, Erika-chan? Calm down, take a deep breath, okay?"

Minty calmed down the angry Erica, and I returned my gaze to the church with a wry smile.

The exterior walls are lit up so that they can be seen even at night without being too bright.

If you include the roof, the height is probably about the size of a four-story building.

The size of the grounds is as large as the academy's training grounds.

Meiya guided me into the church. When I opened the large double doors, I was greeted by a white light.

It wasn't so bright that it was blinding, but I could tell it was a white light.

This is a cathedral where weddings and ceremonies are likely to be held, and at the very back center is a sculpture that appears to represent a god.

"Who's that?!"

When I looked to the side where the voice had come from, I saw a boy a head shorter than Croana watching warily from the door.

His body looks a little thin, probably because he isn't getting enough nutrition.

Behind the boy, who looked ready to attack at any moment, were five girls, all slightly taller than him.

"I'll protect all of my sisters!"

"...Ah, you protect them>"

I knelt down on the spot, looked him in the eye as best I could, and spoke.

I could tell that my words had put the boy to shame, but he remained on guard.

From an instructor's perspective, this is a good job. Even when they are told sweet words, they don't let their guard down, meaning they can respond immediately if something happens.

And I'm not being sarcastic or anything.

Even though he was a boy, he was still a man. A man like that was risking his life, so who could say that they would protect him instead?

I convey my proposal with a serious expression.

"I'm Reid, a combat instructor at Phelim Academy."

"...I'm Dill."

"Dill, I'm not joking when I say you have to protect them. But unfortunately, you don't have any combat training, do you?"

"...I didn't."

"Then I'll teach you. And today I've come to ask you for a job."

I could tell from the atmosphere that Erika and Meiya were surprised by my statement.

This is what I was thinking on the way to church.

Erika would have been able to predict that I would be asking her to do a job, but Dill's combat training is a different matter.

No matter what, Dill needs to get stronger.

I need to get stronger and protect my sisters.

Why?

I was surprised to see that it was Dill, a boy with short purple hair.

And her five sisters.

This is because in the game they were famous as the founders of the Demon Association.

Among them, the assassin Dill protects the five shrine maidens who are his sisters, and is the strongest enemy among the ten in the game.

In the end, he is destroyed by Roy and the player.

In other words, today, when I met Meiya, was the turning point.

The reason I think so is because the Demon Association was established in order to revive someone.

The name wasn't mentioned in the game, but it was likely Meiya.

There is no enemy named Meiya in the game.

If she hadn't met me, Meiya might have died.

...Were they trying to revive Meiya?

What strong kids.

"I'll teach you how to fight, so you protect them, Dill."
