Chapter 81: Waiting for the Opportunity

The NASDAQ's rise and fall kept William so engrossed he had no time to pay attention to Alexander. Everyone in the room stared nervously at the screens.

At 11:00 AM Eastern Time, the NASDAQ index had climbed to 5021 points. Alexander grabbed a computer and ran the numbers. "This is incredible! It's really happening! William, you've earned $22.37 million in just two and a half hours. How can it be this profitable?"

Alexander rushed over to William. "This is amazing, William, you're a genius! Why don't we sell now? We've already made so much. We should cash out."

William gently kissed Alexander on the forehead and said with a chuckle, "It's going to keep rising. I trust my judgment. I'll be careful, don't worry."

"Felix, call and order some food. I'm hungry," William said calmly. Being reborn was his ultimate advantage; knowing the outcome, there was nothing to get excited about.

"Of course, Mr. Devonshire. I'll make the call now."

By the time everyone had finished their late lunch, it was 2:00 PM Eastern Time. When the market reopened for the afternoon, the NASDAQ index immediately shot up to 5028 points. William shouted to the traders in the room, "Get ready! Start selling our contracts at 5029 points!"

"Understood!"

"Understood!"

Ten traders began typing furiously on their keyboards. Once the index hit 5029, they started selling off the contracts, finally liquidating the entire position just half an hour before the market closed for the day.

William took the report from Felix and laughed heartily. He had earned $33.56 million today. The NASDAQ index peaked at 5030 points before fluctuating around that mark for the final thirty minutes of trading.

William turned, pulled Alexander into his arms, and kissed her passionately. Alexander responded with equal enthusiasm, the two of them ignoring everyone else as they held each other tightly for several minutes before finally separating. William then addressed the trading room. "Everyone present today gets a bonus of one hundred thousand dollars! Haha, guys, call and book us a celebratory dinner!"

"Haha, long live Devonshire!" the ten traders in the room cheered.

Today had been incredibly lucrative for them. In addition to their hiring fees, they were receiving a 1% share of the profits—$330,000—plus an additional $1 million bonus from William. The traders were shouting with joy. They had each made $133,000 in just a few hours, which was more than they typically earned in a month.

Sam and Bernie's group asked happily, "Mr. Devonshire, does that include us?"

"Of course, everyone here gets one! Guys, just wait for the market to close, then we'll all go out for a feast."

"Long live, Mr. Devonshire! You're so generous! God bless you," Sam exclaimed in congratulation.

William put his arm around Alexander. "Let's go, dear. We'll head to the Four Seasons Hotel to drop off our things, and then we're off to Mount Titlis for some skiing." Today's trial run had been a great success. All that was left was to wait for the NASDAQ to hit its absolute peak, and then the real carnival would begin.

Alexander nodded in agreement.

William turned to Felix. "Felix, take a few days of paid vacation. I'll call you when I need you. For now, take everyone out for that celebratory dinner." With that, William left with Alexander and Bryan Mills's five-man team for the Four Seasons Hotel.

After the big meal, everyone returned to the hotel. Once they were settled in their rooms, William checked a text message that Bond had just sent. He told Alexander he was going downstairs to arrange for a helicopter and their hotel on Mount Titlis. Alexander didn't question William's unusual arrangements.

Taking the elevator down to the hotel's parking garage, William followed the license plate number Bond had sent him and found a used minivan. He located the key on top of one of the tires, got in, and found what he was looking for inside: an AWP sniper rifle and two Glock 17 pistols. He transferred all the weapons and ammunition into his storage space, then got out, locked the van, and headed back upstairs.

In his hotel suite, William handed the mission over to Bryan Mills.

Bryan Mills nodded at William, then turned to his teammate. "Bernie, you're with me. Let's go get the equipment."

The two men went downstairs and found the minivan. Bryan inspected the weapons inside and found them all to be military-grade, complete with numerous accessories and still brand new. He and Bernie each tucked an M92 pistol into their jackets, then packed the remaining three M92s, the M4 rifles, and the ammunition into two large backpacks.

Once they had packed everything, Bryan Mills and Bernie returned with the backpacks to William's suite.

Soon after everyone had gathered, the helicopter William had chartered from the hotel arrived.

After a quick ten-minute pack-up, William, Alexander, and Bryan's five-man team boarded the eight-seat MD 902 twin-engine helicopter and flew towards Mount Titlis.

William had booked three interconnected chalets on the mountain. He and Alexander would stay in the one situated right on the edge of a cliff. A hotel staff member showed them around, and both William and Alexander were very pleased with the accommodations.

It was a beautiful all-wood chalet, spacious and comfortable, with a large panoramic balcony. Standing on it, the breathtaking scenery was overwhelming. Alexander was especially fond of the balcony.

After they settled in, William led Alexander to the indoor hot spring. Two hours later, he carried her back to the bedroom, and they soon fell asleep.

He slept until 4:30 in the afternoon. When he woke, he saw Alexander was still sleeping soundly. He decided to make an onion, carrot, and beef soup.

He put the beef in a stew pot to simmer and took care of the rest of the prep. Feeling relaxed, he stepped out onto the balcony, breathing in the crisp, cold air and gazing at the snow-capped mountains in the distance. The sudden slowdown in the pace of life felt incredibly comfortable. He made a mental note to buy a chalet in Switzerland so he could visit from time to time.

He didn't know how much time had passed when he heard Bryan calling his name from outside the chalet. He waved, then went downstairs to meet him. "How are you finding it here, Bryan?" he asked.

Bryan smiled. "It's great, Boss. Your chalet is shielded from the front and has a cliff at the back, so a sniper can't get a line of sight. Bernie and Casey are on duty at the safe house on the mountain road below the chalet. We'll rotate shifts, so security won't be an issue."

"Dizzying, I was asking how you feel about the vacation spot," William said, shaking his head with a smile. "It's wonderful here. I'm thinking of buying this place. Maybe after my company is up and running, I can even use it as an employee benefit, let some of our outstanding staff come here every year."

"If you did that, I think your employees would be very happy. It's truly amazing here. After this job, I'm thinking of bringing my daughter here for a trip." Bryan pulled out his wallet and showed William a photo of his daughter.

"Boss, this is my daughter, Kim. She's beautiful, isn't she? She's my angel. I resigned for her. If I didn't, she wouldn't even know who I am anymore," Bryan said with emotion.

"She's a very cute little girl," William agreed, handing the wallet back to Bryan.

"Time flies. Kim is seventeen now. In my mind, she's still that little toddler who could barely walk, always shouting for me to teach her how to ride a bike. I've been so busy with work all these years. I've missed too much."

"Well, it's not too late now," William comforted him. "At least you still have the chance to make it up to her. As long as you spend time with her, Kim will slowly accept you again, Bryan. After all, she is your daughter."

"Thank you, Boss. You're a good person," Bryan Mills said, nodding gratefully at William.

William found this amusing. *I wonder if you'll still think so after I make a fortune from the stock market crash,* he thought to himself.

"Oh, Bryan, don't mistake me for a good person. You might not see this side of me for much longer. Anyway, I've got soup on the stove. We can talk later."

"Alright, goodbye, Boss." *The big boss even cooks soup?* Bryan thought, finding William to be very different from the other wealthy people he had worked for.
