Chapter 1 - Chapter one: a righteous system

Other people's system companions are either impotent old men or beautiful girls with unresolved desires.

The system companion Li Wei was given was clearly a knockoff—looked like it weighed over 300 pounds, had no visible neck, smiled without showing its eyes, and wore glasses so thick they completely hid its gaze. This sleazy fat guy just kept yapping and yapping nonstop. His tiny mouth flapped like a hamster's, making people want to punch him on sight.

The harsh reality in front of Li Wei was just as heavy as this fatso—somewhere between 300 and 350 pounds.

This was the system he had been granted upon crossing into another world. The voice had been nagging in his head nonstop for a while now, and if he didn't find a solution soon, his new life was going to be unbearably dull.

Because this system was not only a chatterbox, it was also an extremely righteous one.

Nothing wrong with justice, of course, but too much justice? That's a problem. Not quite the same as being a saint or do-gooder, it's more like being a perfect poster child for fucking civilizational values.

But hey, this is another world, we need a little of the good old crowd-pleasing stuff, don't we?

Right now, Li Wei stood inside what looked like a small town.

Or rather, a small castle.

It's surrounded by towering walls far out of proportion with the local productivity level. Inside, most buildings were made of wood, a whole bunch of architecture that would make ecowarriors squeal with delight. Narrow streets, low buildings, full of charm; shabby but brimming with folk flavor.

You know, the kind of "exotic poverty" Westerners just love: eco-friendly, socially untouched, romanticized ruins of poverty. That's pretty much par for the course in this world.

The small castle was built around a hill, with an inner citadel at the top, which was likely the lord's estate. And you know what? It actually looked nice, like the kind of tourist trap that could charge for entry someday.

In this medieval fantasy town, a typical isekai protagonist might get dazzled by the exotic races, mysterious mages, valiant warriors, and curious customs.

But Li Wei was different. The fact that this system had chosen him already proved one thing:

Birds of a feather flock together.

The wise recognize their own kind.

The dragon follows the clouds, the tiger follows the wind.

Only in winter do you know the pine and cypress remain.

Those on different paths cannot plan together.

Yes, he was a man of virtue, unmoved by riches, not what you thought, you perv.

So the first thing he noticed was feudal oppression, the suffering of the people who desperately needed saving.

Just look at that poor beast-eared girl, barely in her teens, probably high school age, forced to wear such... minimal clothing. Skin barely covered, sitting on a crate in a cramped alley, waiting boredly for customers.

What does that say?

It says feudalism is evil! Absolutely vile!

Li Wei wanted to rebel against the entire system, to fight corruption with righteous fury. He could already imagine the epic showdown: 300 rounds of battle, explosions of rage, thunderous yelling, smoke from every orifice, ending in glorious mutual destruction!

"I can take the hit, what matters is that I fought the good fight!"

Of course, the current situation was a bit special.

Everyone else around him was frozen, paused like NPCs in a game. He was trapped in a tiny three-square-meter box.

"What are you staring at?! Those scantily-clad bodies are NOT for your eyes! Only those who reject vulgarity have righteous! Only those who rise above such low tastes are truly noble! You must remember your mission here! What are a few billion alien lives compared to the glory of rejecting vulgarity?! STOP STARING! One more look and I'll call down lightning! Still looking?! Fine, here comes divine retribution!"

Just as Li Wei felt an urge to contribute to this world somehow, that damned voice started up again.

Suddenly, a cloud rolled in from the southwest. A bolt of lightning struck down right in front of Li Wei, charring a small patch of earth into black mud.

"SEE?! That's your warning! If you keep acting vulgar, that's your future! You came here to educate, to uplift! You're supposed to be a scholar! A professor! This world needs righteous values, damn it!"

The thunderbolt struck like a dragon's wrath, narrowly missing nearby pedestrians. It landed just one meter in front of Li Wei.

"What the hell was that?!"

Fear turned to rage, then back to fear. Only a true masochist could enjoy this.

If that bolt had hit him, he'd be toast.

No, it wasn't fear, it was dignity! He was insulted! They tried to turn him into a scumbag!

"WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!"

Li Wei roared skyward, yelling at his system with righteous fury.

"Bro, we can talk this out! Anything you say, I'll do, just don't be mad!"

A man must be flexible. Heroes endure humiliation.

He recalled many historic examples of betrayal and endurance—Yue King Goujian sleeping on firewood, Liu Bang pretending to be a brother, Zhu Yuanzhang sweet-talking comrades—only to kill them all later.

"I'll hold it in. Even if I have to play the fool. I'll survive."

"Stop yelling. Good, you understand your mission."

The voice softened slightly, yet it hit Li Wei like a sword slash.

"Now, your first righteous mission… hold on, I've got a lot on my plate. Let me check… okay, let's go to your first quest location."

The fat man pulled out a sci-fi-style gun from his waist, and shot a portal into existence.

Li Wei suddenly realized, this guy looked familiar. But before he could react, the fatso pulled him through the portal

Into a coastline surrounded by a forest.

A former beach of glory. A small battlefield on a beautiful beach.

A group of orcs arrived by boat. Their leader barked orders as they dragged their supplies and weapons ashore. There were about 100 of them, towering, fierce, with mouths full of sharp teeth and claws.

"Break engagement… nope. Bullied as a kid… not this either. um… not that. Ah, this one! Found it! Your first mission, I'm sending it over, check your system and don't share the activation code with anyone!"

??? Are you China Telecom's customer service?

Suddenly, red text appeared on Li Wei's retina.

If it were directly printed on his brain, that'd be terrifying, but not as terrifying as some of the other options…

"Wait, what the hell just happened? We were in Europa Universalis, now this is World of Warcraft? What kind of chaotic genre shift is this?!"

"Told you, we are a patriotic education platform. Even cross-world travelers need to follow rules."

The fat man adjusted his tiny glasses and pulled out a scroll.

"Now, read the main quest carefully:"

...........................….............

Epic Main Quest: To Combat Vulgarity

In the first year of the Isekai Age, especially in recent times, as the cross-world reform policy advances and Isekai reforms deepen; many exemplary souls have emerged, greatly contributing to their new worlds.

Yet certain extreme minorities have failed to adapt, failed to embrace their mission, or failed to contribute at all, endangering the interests of native residents across dimensions.

This must be addressed.
